Micro-Monsters & Standing Waves
Join LNE members on a hunt to capture the elusive 'standing wave' at Loch Ness. In this video, we'll also explore potential evidence from a 'Nessie' video recorded from Urquhart Castle back in August 1992...
On the 13th of July, LNE and The Loch Ness Centre worked in collaboration with Aberdeen University. The scientific and research team brought technology that was both ground-breaking and state of the art. If you want to know more information, then watch this video!
A special thanks to Jared Christie, Dick Raynor, Dr Tom Davey and Aberdeen University.

Hydrophone Recording Urquhart Bay 10/08/24
Переглядів 3,8 тис.14 днів тому
Saturday the 10th of August at 10:41am, our Hydrophones picked up a strange sound at a depth of 30m within Urquhart Bay. We've no idea what's causing this 'pulse', which you'll hear in short bursts. Electrical interference, perhaps? Either way, this is a new sound to add to our database. Please visit and join our Facebook Group: Loch Ness Exploration.

Excellent work ! The 1992 video as far as I'm concerned captures a living creature - possibly a seal. Maybe a playful juvenile nessie, unlikely but we don't know for certain. The Loch produces all kinds of illusions, strange effects, odd waves, and mirages. Sure standing waves can fool many viewers but that 1992 footage appears solid, like something dark is rotating as it treads water. It does not look like a diver in a dark wetsuit. It looks like an animal swimming about the surface.

Thank you 🫡 It’s great footage. I encourage others to do their own analysis with an openmind. It'd be great if someone out there could get a rough estimate of size. It may well be a seal or perhaps even two seals.

@@TeamLNE To me there is much similarity to the Gordon Holmes video as the 1992 video. Both videos show a dark object swimming along the surface, roughly the same size approximately. The Holmes video looks more serpentine. Unidentified dark objects that seem to be animate. Larger than the resident fish. Interesting !

The best time to conduct hydrophone experiments on Loch Ness is night time and preferably during the colder months of the year - but that is only my opinion. I'm not sure when the Foyers hydro works or whatever it is there operates but forget listening if any pumps, generators, or machines are operating. No boat traffic. No factory/hydro works operating. No daylight - no people making noise. Not a damn sound other than biological and water activity. That is your best bet to actually hear aquatic life within the Loch.

It's amazing how the media can twist a few sentences from my actual statement. I've used 'pulse' and 'heartbeat' purely to describe the sound. I personally believe it's interference or, as you've also suggested, gas escaping the terrain within Urquhart Bay. The terrain below can be unstable, especially when we've got heavy rain. The two rivers that flow into the Bay can carry a lot of debris and sediment, which has caused underwater landslides in the past. It's an interesting sound to say the least.

Is that pulsing only recorded in that segment or is it continuous and this is a sample? I don't know much about subsurface audio recording so I don't know what is normal and what is not. Also, geological phenomena may be worth exploring as a sourse of the pulsing, if for nothing else than to reasonably eliminate it as a cause. Stuff like rocks knowing against each other in a current or tumbling down a cliff face. Or, potentially devistating, landslides.

    • @TeamLNE
      @TeamLNE 17 днів тому

@qrfarchaeology9391 The full recording goes on for 02:07 minutes. This particular audio clip was the clearest segment of that recording. Great questions. We had been drifting in the bay for a while before the sound was picked up. Despite being 30m below the surface, it's entirely possible that the weather condition on the surface could cause interference. The Bay itself isn't this smooth slopping drop into deeper water. Instead, it's full of rough terrain and canyons. There was a massive underwater landslip many years ago and hearing that below the surface would have been crazy.

@@TeamLNE as far as I know, it was shown just once (1992) ITN evening news, when hosted by Sir Trevor Mcdonald. But,it also aired in a short documentary. That camcorder / video recorder was 'decent quality' for its era circa 1992,the raw origenal footage,is much sharper, much clearer, if you could somehow get access to it now,the enhancement possible in 2024 would be very very interesting. To answer directly, based on what I saw,if my life depended on it, I would have to go with a large, very large living 'active' moving/swimming/rolling/feeding? animal.I have both lived and worked on 'boats' large boats! Australia, Europe and a year in Scotland (Faslane) so I have seen thousands of wakes, all water conditions, yet I have never seen a 'wake' perform in anyway like suggested for the above.Did you ever see the Bobby Pollock footage? it was interesting, but for me the URQUART CASTLE (bay) footage always remains the most genuine convincing ever.Regards paul

@bhartley868 I like your thinking, and it's often been discussed. I might be mistaken, but 'GLASS‑BOTTOMED BOAT PEQUOD' I'm sure was used in Loch Morar rather than Loch Ness. Adrian and his students did find bones, etc, and I guess it's up to the reader whether the sheep/deer died naturally by the Loch side or did something else occur? Visibility in Loch Morar is far greater than in Loch Ness, making it easier to identify certain points of interest. It's a beautiful location, and it'd be great to see future expeditions return one day.

**** **** Thank You for your reply, I just found it. About the missing sheep question. Since the problem of not enough food has been stated for years for a big Nessie or more, the remote possibility of other land sources of food, sheep , deer , even birds floating on the surface of the water, could solve that problem. May I suggest an open enquire to the locals perhaps in newspapers, to try and ascertain how many sheep go missing and what months it happens the most . It would be interesting if a pattern develops and no one ever looked for that information before. I have heard at Lake Champlain, Vermont, USA , of Champ, where locals believe during heavy rain storms at night, Champ possibly moves onto land aided by the wet to hunt for food. Not far inland, just enough for a meal. Odd depressions and drag marks have been noticed but, they soon dry up and disappear . Who in their right mind go out in a severe rainstorm, lightning etc, at night looking for Nessie ? Nature finds a way to eat. EELS have been known to travel on ground for short distances. Thank You for all of your hard work ...

Ya preserving history is important. England is amazing. I don’t agree with many laws or things in England, but when it comes to metal detecting the government requires people to turn finds in and then if they take it they compensate the metal detector finder. In the U.S. 25% of all the land is owned by the federal government since they refused to give it to the states like they did prior basically to ensure the eastern states has control over western states. But this means 25% of the U.S. if you find a coin even 50 years old or older you legally can’t take it. If you turn it in you get NOTHING. The government is incentivizing people to destroy history and metal objects down, or simply to destroy objects on private land to stop the government from stealing land they may want or people may just not report any finds and keep it hidden in a collection. England is great cause they can record finds whether or not they keep it and metal detectors guys get compensated so they’re incentivized to preserve history. But the same is true for water. The ocean off the eastern U.S. is made into monuments so diving etc for ships is illegal. There’s thousands of ship wrecks that are illegal to salvage. Sure you may find a ship but the government will not preserve it since in a monument all artifacts are left there basically to continue to rot and decay. Private property or the government promoting private property and salvage etc is great so ships are salvaged and companies make some money but archeologists also get things. I remember a documentary of a ship recovered off of England and the government worked with the company to let them keep some of the find but museums or the government archeologists got stuff to preserve too. That way it’s private companies that finance recovery of things. There’s no way tax dollars and government programs will ever promote massive preservation of things since as we’ve seen since ww2 and before most governments spend most of their money on endless war and other wasteful pursuits.

The tunnel to the sea theory makes no sense what so ever. The loch is above sea level for one.

Totally agree. There are no tunnels in the Loch and there's definitely no tunnels linking Loch Morar to Loch Ness. The geology alone can tell us that.
