Japan Motorcycle Crime and the Komine Disk Lock
In this video, we dive into motorcycle theft in Japan and explore how you can protect your bike with a simple, affordable solution: a Japanese disc lock by Komine. Motorcycle theft is an issue worldwide, and Japan is no exception. With nearly 1,200 motorcycles stolen annually in Tokyo alone, even high-security measures can't fully prevent theft-but we can make it harder for thieves!
We'll cover key stats from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police, including why motorcycles are 27 times more likely to be stolen than cars. We’ll also discuss the “Good Rider System,” Japan's unique approach to theft prevention, and why young joyriders and professional thieves alike pose a risk.
🚨 Komine LK122 Disc Lock Features 🚨 This Komine disc lock, available for around $30 USD, has a 110dB alarm, a reminder wire, and a bright color to deter potential thieves. We’ll show how it works and discuss why it's a great, affordable option for motorcycle owners in Japan and beyond.

Just use gear oil. Save you some bucks.
Good tip but chain lube is already pretty cheap here.
Do you think it would handle an uphill dirt road? Not super loose, but kinda steep
Probably. You can't really stand on the pegs though.
Ok, cool! I’m thinking about getting one as a first bike
Awesome video mate
Thanks 🙏
Hi. Is it too close to You when You sit on the motorcycle? Thanks
No problem at all.
Super helpful! Thanks bro!
You're very welcome. I've been using the cases for a while now and very happy with them.
Thank you for your video! I do love the older look, the new updates is very tempting.
You're welcome.
I think the new model has a better ground clearance and would be a better off-road machine.i have the money and money is not a concern.i like the older model and thinking to buy but which one.i don't care about tech and i am only concerned and keep thinking about the ground clearance would be a beneficial while offroad.whats your thought ?
Ground clearance hasn't really been an issue so far. It's not really a bike you're going to do heavy off-road riding on. I've only used it on some forest trails and on the beach. The 2024 model is a great bike but it isn't as unique as the previous models as far as design goes.
@@bikesonabudgetjapan I can get previous gen almost half the price in Australia.now I have another issue with 2023 model seat height is 835mm.i am a short guy 5 foot 7 inch is my height.i currently own Mt 09 2020 model seat height is 815 mm I barely can flat foot.
I think you should definitely go for a lower seat height. Not being able to flat foot can lead to many embarrassing moments.
@@bikesonabudgetjapan I agree; I really like the previous model in the design as you said as well but I wasn't sure if I can reach the ground with both feet which is upsetting.i will definitely look into new one.
Thanks!
You're welcome!
can you help out the actual name or link of that product? i wanna try it to my svart. thanks!
I added a link in the description. It's made by a small local company so I'm not sure if it's available internationally.
@@bikesonabudgetjapan thanks! i have friends there going back here in Manila soon.
You're hilarious sir. 😂 Just got a brand new old atock 2021 Vitpilen 401 at around a 40% discount. Super loving it especially that it has the Euro spec suspension and height. And loving the understated color scheme. This product is interesting. I wish this was available in my country. Would be amazing in our long rainy seasons which feels like every month nowadays. 😅 Loving your content. Really helped me out!
You were lucky to find a brand new 2021! This glass coating is made locally and it doesn't look like they are going to go international. I'm sure there are other brands that are just as good but I'll see how it goes once the whole bike is done.

I don't like that the finish of the seat and the rear fender is with rounded lines in the 2024 model, because the %80 of the motorcycle is angular, with straight lines and it doesn't look good to adapt rounded lines to it by force. They would have simply lengthened it the back seat, but with right angles and they would have left the spray deflector on the rear wheel which looked very good!!! For me the 2024 model takes away the essence and personality of the bike.
Hi did you notice any difference at all after installing? I was going to get the Puig windscreen but I found it ruined the look of the bike too much. So I just ordered this one on Aliexpress instead for $35. Any percentage difference at all when riding at speed?
Not really. It's mainly for looks I think.
Hey can u send the link of multipower distribution box
There are a few versions. Here is a small waterproof one. @@bikesonabudgetjapan thank you 😊
I got another question. I also have the same light. Can you tell me where to connect the ACC wire? I'm new to this and don't know much. But i already installed all the wiring and connected it to the battery, but I don't know where to connect the ACC wire. Can you help me out?
@VarunClotux The acc wire just needs to be connected to any positive wire that has current when your ingnition is on. It depends on what kind of bike you have but those wires are usually white or sometimes yellow or blue. You can tap into the wire using this kind of connector.Amon 4936 Wiring Connector, Red, DC12V 110W or less / DC24V 220W or less, Electro Tap, Amazon.co.jp Limited amzn.asia/d/69tWr94 Another option is wedge the wire into your fuse box under one of the fuses. I suggest you try this first since it doesn't require any wire work. That acc wire is connected to a relay switch inside the future eyes control box. It just makes sure that your lights aren't on when the ignition isn't on.
Hey, I tried everything and even bought a Daytona, but after using the light for 3 to 5 minutes, my bike stopped due to low voltage. Can you suggest something?
Thanks! to the point all the info no fuss 10/10
You're very welcome.
How many bottles like 0,75 water can u fit?
It's a 5 liter bag so you can easily fit 5 bottles in. Maybe 6
The new model looks like an electric bike
Do you think we can remove the rear fender and set up a hugger mudguard on the new model, like on the old model? And also remove the rear grab rail?
Might be easier to just buy an older model but I think a lot of people would be interested in seeing that mod.
I just use a combination helmet lock and pass it through the sissy bar and helmet openings....works just fine.
be interesting to see if you can somehow wire the lights into the bike hi-beam? does the remote keep previous state if power is turned off on lights? (ie. can run a relay to the power wire triggered by hi-beam)
That might be more trouble than it's worth. You would have to bypass the control box. There is a similar set that isn't wireless. That would be easier to modify. I'm very happy with the wireless set so far. They don't maintain State when you turn the ignition off but that isn't a problem.
@@bikesonabudgetjapan bugger, just want lights that dip with hi's on road thats all.. dont want to have to push multiple switches all the time
@@maddan_78their are I believe 3 different versions of these. One of them you can wire directly to your hi-beam light wire. With those they will turn on with your hi-beams.
Nice if you live somewhere where it never rains ;-)
And that definitely isn't the Netherlands.
Great vid. But is the new model any faster ? Engine a bit more powerful ?
Slightly more power but of course, you can't really feel it. Both bikes are zippy at the 7000 rpm mark.
Gracias por tan buen comparativo, estoy por adquirir la nueva version, me sirve mucho tu trabajo, abrazote desde la Patagonia Argentina.
Muchas gracias por tu comentario!

Hi there, love your videos as this is going to be my future bike so I'm gathering all info for later. Enough space to put a laptop inside and if yes what size you reckon?
Thanks for the comment. I don't think a lap top will fit inside that tail bag. You might be better off with a backpack. Or you could consider fitting a carrier.
I installed the standard KTM 1Amp wired charger that way. It charges a bit slow but it's still enough to charge while having the navigation in my phone activated so i guess it's enough.
Thank you for posting! Mine arrived today from EBay with Chinese instructions, but good pictures. The little details like the gromits really help. I feel confident to fit mine now 🎉
Hope it works out for you.
other than aesthetics, I don't think it will do much if any to wind resistance on the rider
Yep.
I’m with you the older model has way more charm… But would love to have the new Tek on it. Great review thanks for putting it out there! 👍🏼😎👍🏼
Thanks. You're welcome.
loved the video! it was a comedic masterpiece & very well informative 🙏🏼
Thanks.
this doesn't look safe
Depends on your country I guess. Good enough for Japan.
Me encanta el modelo anterior. El diseño muy neo conservando las particularidades de una moto retro corta y aguil. Sería genial poder adaptarles cosas de las 2024 como, la pantalla, el exosto y la suspensión delantera.
You are not alone.
Im curious if it works with grab handle included
I don't think so. The brackets would have to go under the grab handle and then the plastics would get damaged when you tighten the bolts. You also couldn't get the seat on. The carrier is actually better to grab onto if you are a passenger because it's further back.
Hi, Thanks for this. Can you recommend few Motorcycle rental shops in Tokyo ? Any website that is trust worthy?
Search "Rental819" on Google maps in the area of Tokyo you want to be. It will give you a list with lots of reviews.
what are those vans shoes called you wear???
Vans high-cuts. They aren't sold anymore. They aren't very good for motorcycle riding anyway. I'll be doing a full review including on-road and off-road performance in the near future. 😜
did purchase from xitomer for my svart, add on rear box. sacrificing looks for practicality. which I am ok with it ( no more troublesome of tightening bag, which usually waste quite sometime)
Did you go with plastic or aluminum for the box?
Seen both in the dealer, the old version looks much better and bigger than the new one. The new one is not anymore special but looks like other ordinary bikes
Pienso exactamente igual!
True, I totally agree.
What do you think about using two 22liter toolboxes as sideboxes?
I've seen that. Very clever if you have the skills to make it work. The most important thing for me is that they attach and detach quickly.
Oh my you're the best!
Does it works with a case?
Yes. You can definitely put a case on there. There are plenty of holes to mount it. I don't think it will take much weight though.
Great vid, looking forward to your video of the installation of the charger! Cheers
Greetings from Germany, I have just bought the 2023 and am waiting for delivery. In the meantime I'm looking for useful mods and came across your channel! Great content, more of it please.
Congratulations on your purchase. I hope you'll be as happy as I am. The next video will be an overview of all the mods I have done and my opinion about the bike after one year.
I like that classic GSX50 in the background (4;42)
I should have featured him.
Funny enough I just bought these lights for my 2021 svartpilen 401. Where do you think would be the best place to attach the white wire to?
I'd be interested to see how they look on the svartpillen. Not sure where to put the white wire on the Svart'. I'll have a look when I get back to Japan.
@@bikesonabudgetjapan awesome, yeah I'm curious as well. The svartpilen already has a pretty decent headlight, but can't complain on having more visibility and being more visible
It looks like a piece of corn on top of the shit
I do like corn. Perhaps your comment was lost in translation. Thanks for the comment anyway 🙂.
Well done. Any good rides in the Kawasaki area?
I lived there for a while. Kawasaki isn't really known for its scenic rides. It's more of a place you want to ride away from. Please let me know if you find anywhere good.
What’s the mpg
Haven't really measured it myself but this site seems to give some numbers: www.fuelly.com/motorcycle/husqvarna/svartpilen_401/2023
Agreed I prefer the look of the older model.
