Rugby Junction
United States
Приєднався 24 лис 2011
Located about halfway between Slinger and Richfield, Wisconsin, the now "town in name-only" of Rugby Junction primarily exists only to the railroads. Rugby Junction originally served as a junction between the Wisconsin Central and the Milwaukee Road, allowing Wisconsin Central (Soo Line) passenger trains to access Milwaukee. The last Soo Line passenger train to Milwaukee in 1938.
Rugby Junction had a depot between the tracks, as well as an engine house and turn table which were necessary during the steam era of railroading when Rugby Junction existed. A small motel and restaurant also existed near the tracks to feed and house passengers that had layovers as they switched between trains. Today, the only evidence of the actual junction is a now dead-end siding from the ex-Soo main that no longer connects to the ex-Milwaukee Road line. The ex-Soo Line tracks are used heavily by the Canadian National Railroad and the Milwaukee Road tracks are part of the Wisconsin & Southern.

Normally confined to the iron range in northern Minnesota, a pair of CN C40-8s head southbound dead-in-tow, bring a little variety to the regular motive power on the Waukesha Subdivision.
Both units are of Chicago & North Western heritage, with CN 2131 previously CNW 8548 and CN 2119 previously CNW 8572.
CN 2131 was featured in TRAINS magazine back in 20222 when the units were brought out of storage... and now they're likely going back to storage.

Western Pacific Heritage Unit UP 1983 at Butler WI

UP 1983, the Western Pacific heritage unit, led solo on a coal drag (CNASH9-16) headed for Sheboygan, Wisconsin. The train rolled through Butler Yard this sunny Sunday afternoon when I didn't have much better to do than catch one of the best looking heritage units I've ever seen. Granted, this paint scheme has been around for nearly 20 years, but it's new to me! The train tied-down for the nigh...

CN job S709 was reported to have the CSXT L&N heritage unit in the consist and heading northbound over the CN Waukesha Subdivision this past weekend, but it went through in the early morning hours. Thankfully the power from that train returned, this time in daylight as CN job M342. In what was a complete surprise to me, the train made it from Stevens Point, Wisconsin around noon to the Illinois...

I got a little creative today to catch CN 3023 leading a northbound mixed freight (M343?) through Ackerville, Wisconsin, on a rainy Saturday morning. I wanted an aerial shot of the unit for something a little different than my other videos, but the rain posed a problem. As such, I used the Hwy 164 overpass bridge as a rain shelter to keep my drone and my person dry.

However, CN 3309 and it's trailing counterpart, CN 3331, are sporting some one-of-a-kind vintage logos that make this Office Car Special extra special! #cn #canadiannational

Empty Rock Train at Ackerville WI
Переглядів 2614 місяці тому
The first rock train of Summer 2024 kicks-of with a pair of EMD locomotives, which is rare for a rock train that is typically limited to one unit. Technically, this train is just delivering the stored ore jennies to the rock pits to be filled for the first rock trains. CN 5299 & CN 5366 are looking rather worn, but perhaps they should after decades of service. #canadiannational

With the Canadian Pacific tracks lining the western border of the Mississippi River, it seems that businesses and residents got desperate to build on the couple of yards of land between the tracks and the river. I just bought the UP 1996 for my HO layout. I love it!!
I don’t think so, they just got put on L515 yesterday, they may have been demoted from iron range service but that’s a theory, but it’s most likely not scrap where they’re going
Headed for scrap.
Hi Rugby Junction & it's is Randy and i like yours is Cool & Thanks Rugby Junction & Friends Randy
I like the new rebuilt sd75i acc but yes the horn really sounds different. Some old alco horns sound like that too. Great videos
Awesome catch! Interesting sounding e-bell
Wilbert Freeway
Funk Cliffs
Seen that in Tosa yesterday also love the warbonet scheme on the lead Loco
The amount of paint it takes for all that graffiti on those rail cars must be staggering.
Agreed! I can't afford to paint graffiti, even if I thought it was a good idea.
That’s glossy paint! I wish it was Soo Line.
Awesome
Really cool seeing both of those special locos paired together
Those e-bells are god-awful, but the locomotive itself looks fantastic.
Whenever I hear those e-bells, which are common on the Wisconsin Southern SD60Ms that roam these same rails, I keep thinking Santa Claus is coming! 🤣
Does anyone know what make and model they are?
I’m glad to see that those locomotives are getting a new lease on life and not being sent to the scrapyard.
I rebuilt these here in Muncie. Cool to see them moving now. We are currently full of these SD70IACC rebuilds
The next four units had passed by me (Rugby Junction on CN Waukesha Sub), but unfortunately in the early morning hours. They looked sharp!
out of curiosity, why do u guys move the battery boxes behind the inverter instead of keeping it where it was before?
Them thangs there sexyy. ❤❤🥰
God that e-bell on the 8300 sounds hideous!
I think sd75aci sounds better
What is the length of those locomotives?
The SD75i is my favourite CN engine since the 90s... growing up with the classic Canadian cab hoods and getting to see the last of the MLWs on the road in my younger years, the SD75s were just a fresh new thing with their smooth engines and awesome looking cab. I'm really glad they're getting rebuilt, and they kept the classic cab (unlike the CP SD90 rebuilds to SD70ACU)!
Did you grow-up in Canada? I grew-up along the same line this video was filmed., which was Soo Line and Wisconsin Central EMD power, typically regular cabs.
@@RugbyJunction yes in northwestern New Brunswick more precisely (accross the river from Northern Maine) 😎🇨🇦
Call me crazy but do i here a electric bell on that CN 8300 or thats the crossing gates?😮
youre correct, its an ekyrail ebell
@@EvoStarIX sounds better than an ebell
Nice Video did you see the L249 too
Great catch thanks for posting
Lineage of 8300?
CN 8300 was previously CN 5725
@@RugbyJunction thanks mate
Great catches and awesome video

LOL! No kidding... real trains are never that clean!
Maybe but your AI
Good stuff.
Hi Rugby Junction & it's is Randy and i like yours video is Cool & Thanks Rugby Junction & Friends Randy & Super Cool & Video & CN 8300 EMD SD75IACC Thanks Rugby Junction & Good Friends Randy
I’m sad that they are being rebuilt
Why is that? They're getting a new lease on life.
@@RugbyJunction true, it’s just that they are going on 25+ years of service and when they get rebuilt, they loose all that history
@@YourLocalRailfan ur lucky they arent being deadlined or sold off / scrapped
@@BalloonBugle88 true that
They really don’t look all that different than their as delivered counterparts. Really the only visual differences you’d see is the extended height box on the roof behind the cab, PTC equipment, aboriginal stickers, and marker lights.
Cool That red CN paint sure does fade.
De mis modelos favoritos!!🚂🔝✨🔥😎🙌🏼
Wow I loved that engine and the bell that new bell sound sounds like an old type GE bell ❤
First!
Nice catch!!! I caught that same exact train at La Fox on the UP Geneva Sub!!!
Good catch !! I saw this today going north to Sheboygan
Neat video! I was parked not too far north of you, had a view of it passing under the US 18/WI 100 intersection
Sweet catch
Solid catch of it rounding that sharp curve!
Súper lashup ☝🏼
That Horn Sounds Horrible
@@johnniebellamy5912 It almost made me deaf as the train crept over the road. I didn't have time to get my ear plugs in. 🙃
K5LLA horns are music to my ears!!!
Great catch Todd, I like it! I am going to have seek this one out Monday! (Dave).
There used to be a small Art Deco radio station building beside that antenna next to the loading facility. It was removed after the 2001 flood if I recall.
The turntable is quite likely from the Milwaukee Road Marquette Yards. There was a large roundhouse and turntable there for many years. To my knowledge, PDC never had a turntable. I grew up in the Marquette, IA/Prairie du Chien, WI area in the 50's and 60's.
Happy to see ya back!
Hey, o got recommended here a while ago from a friend, I saw this one too, in Hubertus, and dropped everything to go see it

Rugby Junction, although you don't have a Canadian accent I can hear, I'm assuming you're a Canadian visiting the US. Did I peg that right? If so, welcome, neighbor.
My mother says my grand father came from Canada when he was a child, but that's about as close of a connection as I have to our neighbors to the north.
