Are Chinese Diesel Heaters DANGEROUS?
Welcome back folks.
After seeing a growing number of posts recently talking about how dangerous Chinese diesel heaters are, I thought I would wade in and offer my opinion on the subject.

Welcome back to our Swedish homestead. We all have to start somewhere and with no prior experience, this is our second year at trying to grow our own food. Although the potatoes were hit with a late blight, the same as other growers in the village, we still managed to get a good harvest from two small beds. #homestead #selfsufficiency #offgrid If you would like more regular in a raw format then...

Thanks again for your videos. Im in Quebec city Canada, i bought a sailboat last November and i replaced the 30 year old espar heater with a Chinese one and it works perfectly. I watch your videos to give me more ideas.👍 So if i mess up and burn down my boat I'll keep you responsible. LoL
Thank you for this video 👍
im thinking a metal 55 gallon drum as a fuel tank, any suggestions
fed up with my little tank having to keep filling it , the other day the hole in the lid closed up and it squashed the tank and when i released the lid it split the tank so i was thinking about using something like this, glad i found your video now 👍
Love this!!! Im curious about the design choice to make the first floor pretty much solely a workspace? Was there a structural reason for that or was it just the preferred design? Regardless, amazing work!
Wow that’s a great idea sir I’m here to help stop buying normal or overpriced diesel heaters, buy yourself the new aspligo 5k dual brushless motor units 90$ if you know the benefits you know!! The future is here! And you don’t have to spend more than 90$ ofc if I really wanted one to beat them all I’d stop at HLN pro oem level units 500$ yes they are worth it, I can barely stand the controllers on those cheaper heaters
I’ve heard the components are better quality on the German made ones, is that true, or a myth?
I would hope they are for 20x the price 😅
If you are using chinese diesel heater also you must use a chinese carbon monoxide sensor..
Looks good AP. How is your front blade rigged and operated?
Currently it's on a small winch and pully up front with two chain stabilisers either side. Would prefer hydraulic but this was cheaper.
Thanks for this very calm and informed video - too much money incentived disinformation around UA-cam. These diesel heaters are exremely simple devices and their diesign is proven and working for 50 years now. You can expect lower quality gaskets and fuel lines out of the box as you said, but to people who do their own heater installs on a budget, they should expect a bit of tinkering anyways. Someone with the disposable income won't go through the trouble of installing a diesel heater themselves. I got an 8 KW Version for my caravan, which is honestly a bit overkill. A second one heats my garage space
8 years full time in the van in Scotland. these Chinese heaters have saved my life year in and out
Thanks for the video, I did however notice that the pump you fitted was not at 45 degrees as you said it should be. So ow important is the 45 Degrees.
Are good products ! This fact makes other producer's invidious.
Great job on the video you got a new subscriber
What a intresting review.. you should do some voice over work or audio books work....
I have three of these and used with common sense they are reliable and safe 👍
Amazing heaters. I have one in my skoolie. I tapped into the diesel tank of the bus which is the only way to go.
Thanks
I like the heaters and I do think they will get the job done. My problem is that you have GOT to get that exhaust FAR away from your enclosed area. A Mister Buddy heater with a large propane bottle on it.... just works fine for me in my living room. I pull it in here and use it when the temps drop below 30 here in Dixie. Works like a champ.
With the price of lifepo4 batteries being very competitive have you considered upgrading?
I highly recommend the afterburner controller for these Chinese heaters, it's a massive improvement and makes them much easier control and even integrate in to smart home control
Thanks for mentioning this! Very helpful.
5 gallon pails with lids work well, too
I've installed two in my garage and am quite happy with them, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to not get air bubbles right after the pumps. I have the hard white lines and I'm pretty darn sure I butted them up to the pump nipples the right way... but there's lots of little bubbles in both lines. I have mine at about 30 degrees, I'm going to try 45 degrees and see if that makes any difference (not sure why it would but worth a try) Also, one of them reads about 10 degrees hotter than the other (195 C vs 185 C) on max setting. I liked your video and subscribed.
Cheers mate 👍
Hi. Been using diesel heaters for many years, ebberspacher onwards. There’s nothing wrong with the Chinese versions, theyjust need to be installed properly and maintained. Just installed a silent pump in my micro van, the sound of silence. UA-cam James browning- smith, silent pump. Cheers, keep up the good work.
We have five of them all around our property in rvs in cabins in shop, plus a spare or two, i always keep an inventory of two overhaul kits like 17 dollars each spare glow plug and gaskets for the whole thing, and i also keep one 30 dollars blower assembly on hand as well, its always the fan bearings! And the failure of them is two fold. One, the graphine brushed in the motor are softer than number 2 pencil lead, and i bet its deliberate and planned onsolesence. The soft graphite is cheaper, softer toachine, and wears fast. The swarf or graphite dust and chips are trapped inside the motor housing once it wears off thw brushes, and it ends up in the bearings that are in the housing and does not act like graphitw lubricant powder, it is abrasive and eats the single side sealed bearings in short order. I took a motor apart, turn d the commutator, and machined microcrystaline isostatic graphite brushes for it, and put proper fully sealed bearings with sealing on both sides. Put it all back together and that heater has been running for like 3+ years and has never made the blower motor squeal we all know and hate.
Excellent video mate. Just about get my self one for the filter house. Just came over from your other channel 👍 new sub
Thanks Ash. We are considering putting one in our truck camper. We would like to make the whole unit a permanent install. Do you think if we have a carbon monoxide monitor, it can be inside the rig? Cheers
Love your video. I live full time on a 50foot boat and have one in the front and one in the bedroom absolutely fantastic i love em . And have just ordered another one because it is starting to smoke into my lounge so i think a gasket might have gone but i don't care for £87 😂
They have quite pumps ?
That is so English, they do it all the time. Don't buy an cheap Android phone instead buy an expensive iphone that was made in the same place as the Android. The iphone is no better, in many ways it has less performance, but just don't be seen with anything cheaper, even if you are not rich.
Good honest video and also possibly solved my 08 issue ….ive replaced my heater and can’t get it to run hot did use the green pipe from pump to heater so I will change this and hopefully be fixed
08 error is "flame out" which normally means fuel starvation. Check there is no air trapped anywhere in the line or getting in and sending air pockets up to the heater. Definitely a good idea to change to the hard line. If you look very closely at the pump outlet side, you will see that every pulse creates a micro bubble. They can accumulate if you have a long flat run or tight turns in the line and cause a pressure cushion. Best bet is a fully vertical fuel run but i know that's not always possible. Hope you get it sorted👍 Cheers
excellent video ,have seen some of the ones pushing the expensive ones recently and was wondering if there was any difference your video explained it nicely thank you
Sure the parts "may" be made of better quality materials on some of the models but realistically they all do the same thing. The only thing you don't get on the Chinese is with thermostat mode, when it gets to the desired temp it throttles down instead of fully shutting off. That bothers some people but I personally don't think it's worth £1000 extra...
Eber tend to corrode up and the fan stops or it cokes up. Good install and placement, add an extra fuel filter and you should be good. It’s a good way to burn crap old diesel.
I've actually just pulled 50l out of an old van I bought. Probably 2 year old fuel and it's burning nicely right now 😆
The Chinese ones are exact copies of the more expensive ones. The only think I always feel uncomfortable about is the fuel tank when they are directly above the heaters, but even then the risk is no higher than any other heating system.
Do you mean with the all in one units? I've never really been a fan of those to be honest.Alright for outdoor use I suppose but I've seen people install them in vans which makes me die inside a little bit 😆
thanks bud i have been considering one for my shed
Would be cracking for a shed! I would recommend you run it from a 12v battery which is then constantly charging from your mains though, rather than a 230v-12v power supply. That will save the heater in the event of power failure as they need a cool down period.
Had this heater in my man cave for the last 3 years, changed the glow plug changed the temperature sensor both easy to do would recommend at less than a £100!!!!!
I am going to add one of these heaters on an old house to keep the pipes from freezing. I especially liked the tip about hard lines to improve the pressure of the pump to the heater.
Extremely helpful, thanks for being so frank and all those ideas.
Glad it was helpful!
Been running mine for 4years now no problems
Well said mate 👌
Thanks man 👊
Thank you for your unbiased input. Great info,
My pleasure!
Great video
Thanks!
Is it better to use paraffin or kerosene rather than diesel in these heaters? I’ve heard it burns cleaner and less likely to soot up.
I've used kerosene in the past with no problems and I know a lot of others do too. Don't know about paraffin though. We live 80km from the nearest town so pump diesel is most economical for us.
Good on yah Ash calling out UA-camrs I’m as guilty as any of them But now I’m at the point where I won’t entertain these companies anymore I’d rather concentrate on making videos that I enjoy making and hopefully my audience enjoys watching. No diesel heater videos from me this year.Fair play to you 👍🤓👍🍻
There's nothing wrong with trying out products and demonstrating them to viewers. In fact, I think it's a great thing for people to see before they consider buying something. But there's a right and a wrong way to go about it. I was offered something a while back. Told the company sure, if I have the freedom to test and review it on my own terms. Their response was, "if you say that it is good regardless we will pay you X amount more on top" 😳 I think making the videos you enjoy is the best way to do youtube. Bending yourself to trends or algorithms only results in a miserable experience. Nice one 👍
Simple - buy Chinese, support a dictator & communism. Yet most Western products will either have been assembled in China or have parts from China. As to the product discussed, if it’s built to a testing & safety standard recognised by an industry standard, accepted by insurance companies, works as it states it does without being a diesel guzzler, then it’s a financial emotional choice to support dictatorships & communism. I know what I should choose and that I can look myself in a mirror.
People love to use this response, written on their device, from China...
No matter where they are made or sold from the parts are from China, just like all your kitchen appliances / electronics / cars etc. 😂
Exactly 😆
