Fishing AT Abbotsbury on the Chesil Beach - 6 species on a lovely day on the big beach , 29/8/24
I fish Abbotsbury on the Chesil Beach on Thursday 29th August 2024.
Parking at the beach cafe carpark, paid £8 for 24 hrs and walked along Burton Road towards West Bexington for approx 1.3 KM . Probably 400 m either side of the carpark was packed with anglers
Fishing a relatively small tide , I fished from 1330 hrs to 0100 hrs 30/8 - High tide was 1540 hrs (29/8) , low tide 2100 hrs (29/8)
Used loop rigs , 3 hook clip , 2 hook clip and pulley rigs to catch Tub Gurnard, mackerel, congers, dogfish, whiting and pouting
Baits used were fresh ragworm (Abbotsbury Angling), frozen blacks, frozen squid, frozen mackerel and frozen prawns
Here is the link to the video at roughly the same spot I mention, with the drone footage

    Hi Alan, I was down the teeth the next day, no fish at all, Mackerel chasing whitebait but couldn't pick any up, angler next to me had 5 but all joeys same size as yours, these size fish maybe the only ones getting through the nets? When you can't even pick up some decent sized Mackerel then it's rather worrying regarding fish stocks. I'll be down again this coming week on some bigger tides so hopefully things will improve.

    Car park prices are increasing as the cost of picking up and disposal of rubbish has increased. All those scuffers who leave all their shit behind ( a lot of them so called anglers unfortunately ) are making the cost of parking not worth going to some marks. Easier for councils to increase parking costs = more revenue , until their will come a price point were anglers go elsewhere . = no more rubbish = no more problem for the council. Anyone dumping rubbish should face £5,000 fine and their car crushed. Problem solved 👍

    • @fishingat
      @fishingat 24 дні тому

      Hi, thanks for watching - No climbing is needed to get to the mark. You follow the coast path (Towards St Davids) until to come to some brick buildings. There is a section of path that cuts down to a quarried area - Hopefully you don't mind heights as the path runs close to a steep drop into the water. The old quarry base is flat (ish) .. walk to the end. Where I fished was about 12 foot above the sea level. You can get down to a lower ledge if you can. If you look West (towards St Davids) , you'll see other marks as well , which look relatively easy to get to as well - hope this helps, good luck

    • @fishingat
      @fishingat 24 дні тому

      Thanks for watching. Generally, I'll walk along the gang plank bridge by the Chesil visitor centre , then go right across a more solid piece of land (heather covered etc) for about 500 yards before the pebbles re-start. Very easy to walk on before the slog up the bank before the bird sanctuary , which (on Sunday) was roped off as the little terns are nesting. There used to be a wooden gang plank up the bank but it's been gone about 2 yrs.

I'm having a 4 day fishing trip at Chesil the 1st week of September and the last time I fished the bird sanctuary that's the way I went, but it was hard work going up the bank!! just wondered if it was easier going straight up from the little bridge you cross over the car park from and then along the top of the bank.

      Thanks for watching . I use innova bait stops , which can only go on one way, as they are fed off a metal loop (when supplied). Then typically a sequin as the stop next to the bait . Let me know the time on the video and I'll have a look

    Hi Alan my name is Stephen i am from Bridgend and would love to fish chesil beach but can't walk to far any good marks you could recommend please thanks.stephen

    • @fishingat
      @fishingat 2 місяці тому

      Hi Stephen, thanks for watching. The chesil marks I've fished - Ferrybridge, Abbotsbury, West Bexington and Cogden all have car parks. Easiest for access are Abbotsbury (Straight up wooden planked path to top of shingle bank) and West Bexington (Straight onto beach) . Cogden and Ferrybridge are a bit more of a walk . Problem at Chesil this time of year are the big numbers of mackerel fishermen that tend to fish close to the car parks .. so it's a bit of a lottery until you arrive and see what the space is like. Other options like Hive beach (West Bay) are available but never fished there. There is also the Masonic car park at the Portland end of the beach but you have to get up / over the steep shingle bank. I've not fished chesil now for 2-3 months so no recent experience - good luck. Google maps is good to look at
