It's really great you made a video of the Great 186 Holden engine! You shouldn't make claims that the 186 replaced the Gray engine, the 1963 Eh was born with the new red motor 179 and 149! So these red motors were the birth place in the EH Holden and very reliable motors in many varients till the VK commodore! I've had these motors before and they give lots of power when you know that that are really fucked before they will give in!

Very reliable and powerful engine. I think they were made with extra power so as to be able to power a 2-speed automatic Powerglide transmission which was an extra in the models that the engine come out in. Also, before that I had a 4 speed 186S HK GTS Monaro which I painted a beautiful deep Midnight Blue. It had the light blue interior in it. Went really well, but I had to trade it in at the dealer when I bought my 350 HT Monaro.

Ford Australia developed the 302 version of the 351 Ceveland, simply to avoid paying Australian Government import duties on 302W engines that were not built in Australia. The 351C was. The regulations at the time required 80% locally made content in Australian made cars, to avoid heavy tax penalties. Using the locally made 302C, enabled them to avoid paying that penalty and keep the prices of their locally built cars down, so they could remain price competitive with GM Holden, who made all their engines, from 4 cyl, 6cyl and 8cyl in Australia.

Only the EH premier was standard with the Hydro slushbox and only ever had the 179 in them from the start and the manual could be ordered with it a little later on, every other EH Holden, the vast majority came standard with the 149 with the 179 optional and the auto was an option on most models with the 179 from the start apart from the Premier that never sold in the huge numbers like the other models, your research is full of holes and best left to Australians to accurately assess these cars, it’s like why would I want to pretend that I know everything about a US car like a Pontiac tempest or something when I know Jack shizen about them

  • @jamesgovett3225

Only the EH Premier initially had the hydramatic and was only available with the 179, not the 149 and not long after release you could get the manual trans, all EH Holdens with both engines apart from the Premier were standard with the manual

The old sideplater or grey engine was actually available from the first Holden FX from 1948 not the 50’s also the 179 was available with a three on the tree from the start, the early Hydro’s were a real power sapping auto and generally wouldn’t pull a sailor off your sister and the earlier two models, the EK and EJ’s with the hydro’s connected to the old sideplaters were an Embarrassment, woeful performance if you could even call it that, you were shaking your head if you were unlucky enough to be steering one wondering why on earth Holden would sell that garbage to the public Lol! each model Holden back in the early sixties only lasted just over a year before the next one came out like just about anywhere else in the world back then, the S4 was just an EH with a few improvements here and there but really wasn’t a big deal whatsoever actually the next 2 models, the HD X2’s with the 179 and its twin strombergs and cast iron headers and other engine improvements were superior and the HR 186 X2 and 186 S were even better as far as Holdens warmed over early sixties sixes were concerned, Seeeing that the Red engines were a direct derivative to the Chevy 2 or Nova sixes, we should have been building that version here instead as they were larger capacity with there 194 ci and larger, at least later on South Africa had the intelligence to import HQ Holdens from Australia sans engines and they installed the larger Chevy sixes built in Sth America in around 232 ci or something in them, but Holden probably didn’t because they probably go better than their 253 V8’s back then Lol

You should fact check your information better. At Bathurst 1987 the "winning" Sierras were disqualified for illegal bodywork so the win actually went to the No 10 Holden Commodore. The bodywork (contrary to reports at the time) was illegal at the rear wheel arch - not the front wheel arch (so looking at contemporary photos at the time showing the "difference" in front wheel arches is amusing since they are actually precisely the same). The rear wheel arches were modified which in turn allowed the fitment of a rear tyre that could withstand the heat over the duration of a stint between fuel refills better than the competition. So it was a genuine advantage that deserved disqualification and not merely a "technicality". In any event, the Sierras in 1987 were simply too fragile and I doubt a legal Sierra would have won that day in any case. The Sierras did not find their true (and reliable) stride until 1988.

The 302 was just another one of what are unofficially called Ford Windsor V8s. That included the 221, 255( early 80s only) 260, 289, 302 and 351W. Only the 351W is defined by where it was manufactured Windsor Ontario. It was also completely different design from the 351 Cleveland. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_small_block_engine
