Be sure and check the big 4 pin electrical connector on passengers side close to firewall. It could be melted. The power wire gets too hot. I've seen this many times. Unplug it and inspect.

Hey there Rob - Enjoying all your videos and have gone waaaaaaay back to your 55’s Chassis (great job BTW)… I used to build a couple engines a month, but now only a couple a year it seems. I finally threw in the towel on flat tappet cams and require the customer to pay for a Hydraulic Roller conversion kit. Yes, more money - but after having to pull engines and totally disassemble, clean, replacing oil pump and cam/lifters on a few engines because customers didn’t follow break-in procedures… Well you can imagine how some customers might think the problem was caused by the engine builder…. Glad I retired from that now…. Are you still working a full time job too? Anyways - kudos on the projects!

Ron I have been changing cams and lifters for a long time. back in the early 60's I used Isky, Crane , Sig Erson , and Crane. In the eighties I used nothing but Comp parts. I never saw a lifter with groves on the center of the body. I'm thinking Chinese junk. I could be wrong but nothing surprises me anymore. I'm 81 and still do a little wrenching I recently bought a 2024 Mustang GT Premium. Did I mention my first car was a 55 Belair 2dr hardtop. Harvest Gold and India Ivory? Thanks for all the info you provide I watch your channel all the time. Stay well my friend.

Cam companies do not make lifters. They buy them. I’ve had various Comp Cams and others. It depends on what they can get at the time. Which has been a real problem lately. But I have a new set of “Comp Lifters” new in the box that are actually GM HL-66 Lifters. I don’t think Comp is using those anymore because of cost.

I use the side of another lifter (which is very flat) to check for crown on lifters. If there is no oil film and you have a light behind it you can see they are crowned when new.

Here's a trick for you , to raise the front end with disc brakes . I use a g body lower A arm . Cut the ballpoint area off and graft it onto the stock lower A Arm . This uses the larger ball joint and it points upward . Then put g body lift spindles on . Gives all stock gm bearings and brake assemblies , and hoses. Stock Bearings and shocks . Stock ride and alignment. With 3.5 inches of lift . Measure twice cut once .

I'm not raising the front end. Not building a gasser style car. It will be lower in front and jacked up in the rear like late 70's to early 80's.

I did the same thing, minus the flange on my old 55 with Fenderwell headers many years ago. When I needed to remove / install the headers, I just pulled the fenderwells loose and did a whole lot of finagles (technical term) to R&R the header. I do like the notion of a flange though. Now you got me thinking about doing the same thing on my 57 Bel Air SC! Great work Rob!
