The Brothers - the BBC's super serial of the 1970s
Переглядів 3 тис.2 роки тому
A little hard sell for the book I worked hard on for most of last year, a celebration and retrospective of the BBC's 92 episode serial The Brothers, based around the founding family of Hammond Transport Services, which ran between 1972 - 1976. Among the stars it created were Jean Anderson, Patrick O'Connell, Glyn Owen, Richard Easton, Robin Chadwick, Jennifer Wilson, Colin Baker, Kate O'Mara, M...

The Wombles - Wombling USA (rare track)
Oh, how I would LOVE to watch this whole series again!
You might like to see my little offering which I produced when I was working as a sound man on Tenko. Look up "Tenko Warmwell Dorset" ! Joe Driver.
Mi piace molto Worzel Gummidge! Anche se è una serie TV. per bambini e ho quarantasei anni. Eppure mi sento attratta da questo programma. Mi fanno divertire tutte le birichinate di Worzel.😅😅😅
Thanks Rob. The book is fantastic. Well done for doing such a great job with it.
My xmas is looking like this, this year 😢
A incredible drama that’s still as wonderful today as it was in the 1980’s..I was only a kid back then and can remember the first episode, watching it with my mum..It was a drama we never missed..I would highly recommend anyone to watch Tenko as you wouldn’t be disappointed..The story and acting was and still is first rate..
Interesting video 👍
I have all the DVD's. Im never tired of watching.
Would it be possible to get a copy for me and my dad?
That's my Grandad, where would I be able to get a copy?
Hi Rob, how can I send you a direct message about the book please?
Fantastic 70s series great decade for TV 💪👍
My father introduced me to it and it because of this show that I decided to read up on real people who want though that experience it also opened my eyes as to how little those women and man prisoners are acknowledged When teaching ww2
Loved, loved Tenko…raw, real, disturbing and absolutely authentic…..
And as I'm writing this, Mike Batt has released this song as a single today. :)
Yep, no longer a 'rare' track. The audio used here is wonky, now it's available in proper quality with a promo video.
@@inverross9019 Wonky because it came form an old vinyl source. The recent track would be digitally remastered.
Less than a minute in and I'm sensing someones book isn't selling as well as they hoped
A wonderful group much missed
The fashions don't catch my eyes at all except foe Edward's sideburns.a great series and that looks like a very impressive book,it looks like the format of those very thorough tomes written about rock legends like The Beach Boys,Beatles etc I would like it as a prezzy!
Cool a new Wombling song
A timeless gem from the 1970s
I watched as a teen. Where can I find full episodes please that are free to air Australia?✌🇦🇺
Does the book explain why Glyn Owen who played Edward Hammond was replaced by Patrick O'Connell from season 2 onwards? Does anyone know?
I read somewhere that he wanted more money to continue and was refused by the BBC so he quit….but cannot verify that.
@@RogCoops thats correct he admitted it on the "After they were famous the brothers" show on YT
I lived in Oldham, Lancashire and could not resist the temptation of seeing them as much as I could. Mainly Ashton-under-Lyne in the 1960’s
I enjoy The Brothers,I record every Thursday evening from Talking Pictures.I like the storylines and the characters and it has a pleasant soap like quality blending drama with soap opera.
Hope you will upload the full episodes.Still a great series to watch after 50 years or so. It's timeless
They appear to be performing at Bredbury Hall Country Club which I frequented in the 1960’s.
UK Dallas way , way before US Dallas .
In 1973 I started my HGV mechanic apprenticeship at Hilton Transport Services (HTS) Charlton depot in South East London, which is where the outside yard scenes for the Brothers was filmed. Being quite young I really didn’t take too much notice of the filming or cast at the time, although I knew how popular the TV series was amongst my family members on a Sunday evening. I’m currently watching the episodes on talking pictures TV and slightly regret not having got much closer to the action and cast all those years ago. I think the series was quite reflective of the transport industry at the time, and I love the fashion and tough no nonsense speaking, again in with the period.
I'm glad I came across your video Rob as I had been wondering if there was much written about the series, having recently got into it with the Talking Pictures TV screenings. I certainly remember the show being on in the 70's but it wasn't something my parents liked to watch, so other than the fact that Colin Baker and Kate O'Mara had been in it, I didn't know much about the series. Looking online I was amazed to see it ran to 7 series, with 2 series sometimes being transmitted in the same year - the BBC must have had a lot of faith in it. I'm hooked now, and as you say, it is compulsive viewing, so I'm very much looking forward to finding out more with your book.
This isn't the full episodes I clicked on.
White women are one of the most oppressive groups within our society Why don't they check their privilege and entitlement ? Haven't they been responsible for colonialism ? And White Supremacy ? Weren't many of these women were racists ? How many of these women fought for the Rights of the people whom their Empire exploited ? These women were not heroines, they were colonialists , racists and oppressors.
It's just started today on Talking Picture Freeview, every Monday 9pm & catchup app.
Loved this in the 70s. Liked Robin chadwick! Got an autographed photo of him. See it is on talking pictures.
Monday evenings at 8 pm. Takes me back a bit.
Kills me heart at the end when the kid calls for em.. i will be childless forever. its me lot in life.
R.i.p Jon Pertwee his lovely song of this song .
My late friend Sir Ken Dodd.
It’s that’s time again 😂
Wow I never knew this existed. I would love to read it. I grew up watching the big man and when I grew up even wrestled him once. Is there anywhere I can get it?
What a treasure.
I've added this video to my blog. A while ago I wrote a brief description of this now largely overlooked TV serial, so it's great to find a book such as this. The Brothers was ahead of its time and is also a good primer of what the 70's were like. For instance, nationalisation of the transport industry was a real possibility and The Brothers has the firm preparing to deal with this, including diversifying by entering the Continent where they'd presumably decamp if the government seized the industry. The show also has women being more than just tea makers and props for male characters.
I love this show. I taped every episode on video tape, which I still have. We saw it on A&E when they first began broadcasting. I also love Nanny, a show about a nanny in the 1930s.
Not managed to see it since the first time around. Not related to KR but from the same village. AR
Love you guys! Was a pleasure meeting you both! This was a great watch xx
Linda was my first Mrs J. She is the best Mrs J!! But saying that all the Nolans that have been Mrs J are too notch!!
I watched this wonderful Drama from it's inception. My mum and me would watch while father was reading in bed. It was our guilty secret as he was a liberator of the camps and many of his pals were incarcerated. The ones who came back well, never the same. Always, dying early though tropical diseases. When Dad had malaria flair ups the neighbours would bang on the walls. I am now watching reruns on Drama UK. If I had a criticism then the series didn't go far enough. A remake is due and the stories of the Japanese Guards should be incorporated.
I love the energy of Bjorn Identity; the band members clearly have a love of ABBA and it is always satisfying to watch them perform. Another band you didn't mention was Abba Chique who have a great sound and the singing is top-notch.
After watching Linda play Mrs Johnstone I was exhausted!!!! There was such emotion I was completely drained. The best mrs Johnstone in my opinion. Love and best wishes to you Linda I’m so sorry you are poorly again. Bloody bugger eh???? Xxx
Hi, is there anywhere to still buy the book?
I can’t believe Tenko has never been rebooted. It’s a really good show.
Definitely I remember watching this as a kid with my mum and I’ll never forget this show
Why do a reboot on a classic? Some of its storylines wouldn’t do well these days
That’s because Japan isn’t very fond of tenko and what it highlights to this day and because it doesn’t need to be rebooted it’s perfectly
I've just been seen putting some spiders eggs and pinatas and a snowman eggnog shake in my barn 🏚️🧎🏼♀️
Love Jon as Worzel - a very handsome scarecrow! 😊❤
:`) Your very kind, miss .. <3.. ohh... Thank youu... wait ..my names.. not Jon.. id make.. a very ugly scarecrow. true...
