    As a retired senior, one thing that concerns me is the rate of wage inflation. Remember when it was announced that UPS drivers would received $178000 in annual salary. Truckers were all getting $100K+, and now fast food workers in California start at $20 an hour plus benefits. Unemployment is low so workers can demand higher pay. I wonder what the impact of those higher wages against those on fixed, retirement incomes?

    Been enjoying this channel. I have 9000 at age 24, and want to retire by 60 (so let's round down to 35 years). I contribute 584 a month (let's round up to 600 a month), and this would increase by at least 3% a year. Inflation at 3% a year would be realistic too. Thank you 🙏

    Factoring in inflation, 45 years of saving $100 per month would be $54,000 in total outlays, and average 1.2M at the end of 45 years but that would be worth less than 250k in today's buying power. oooof

    the current economy and market are totally different than what's happened in the past. The post WW2 years are well behind us, and the middle class population continues to decrease due to inflation (printing money) and rising costs. About 5 high tech companies are holding the entire market up in the US. Social security will have to change by ~2030. the future does not look like the present. LOTS of assumptions in your excel model. ( i do like you are sticking with Excel 2013 however..LOL..)

    Your assuming being able to take care of yourself until you die. If one develops alzheimer's or dementi they'll be no longer able to take care of themselves or a place and often needs to move into a facility due to insomnia, anxiety, pacing, hallucinations, paranoia and confusion during the night. At which point it's going to cost on average around 6,000 a month on average not including hospital visits, dental care, and other quality of life costs.

      All I know is what has happened for the last 100 years. Which decade of returns is coming next is anyone’s guess. If you have 20 or more years until retirement, the numbers have always looked good for DCA. But again, o one knows what is coming…

    Whenever I see numbers like these with a "Can I afford to retire?" question I always think what the heck kind of life-style do you have that needs that much money! I retired this year with a fifth of that and I'll be just fine ... assuming World War 3 doesn't wipe out my pension and investments. No debt, own my house and even with the ludicrous inflation we've had of late can still live on twelve hundred a month. Now that was only eight hundred a month two years ago so there is some worry factor I won't deny. But if things get that bad that the stock market ceases to function then not having any money left will likely not be a problem for long :chuckles:

    Great video. I really enjoyed you running the numbers. I'm not in the US but I invest for retirement just as if I was. I'm 40 years old and my investing portfolio's worth is around €120K. I invest €1300 a month between S&P500 ETF and 2 other securities. I'm very anxious about the future because I started my investing journey quite late at the age of 34, so six years ago. Then again I never thought I would cross €100K. I would like to retire as soon as possible knowing that we don't get to live forever. Also let me say that I only make around €2500/month, so I'm investing more than 50%.

    Love your show. Do you take (or can you) rebalancing in the down years. i.e-60/40 in year 2000 or 1929 then rebalance to 60/40 year of down market?

    • @millionmadeeasy8460
      @millionmadeeasy8460 4 дні тому

      I can do any asset allocation you want. But since no one knows the future, any change in the asset allocation would come after the fact, in other words after the down year. If you were at 8020 in the year 2000, then in 2001 you can go to 6040 which might help if you had consecutive down years but not if you just had one. I hope this makes sense.

    Hi there - long time follower of the channel. I love how much the workbook has developed over time. I'd really love to have a copy of the workbook one day if you ever decide to make it available, so that I can run dozens of scenarios to account for different life situations (as opposed to providing you with one scenario at a time per video).... I hope that one day you consider publishing your workbook for download (or even purchase, which I'd happily buy). I know you've posted in the past that you want to clean it up and that there are several worksheets but honestly this workbook is amazing, and I've never seen anything else like it. The avg. American is having a tough time, I know I am not alone. There are others in same position as me. By certain statistics: 22% of americans have no retirement savings. 64% are worried that they will not have money in latter years while 47% of adults who are not yet retired think they have to work part-time in retirement. How can I best grow the 100k I have saved seperately outside retirement access which of course had depleted over the years?

These simulations are bogus because folks are not likely to be invested so aggressively as they get closer to retirement.

    Keep in mind that 3.2 percent figure is based on estimates from the 2019 federal reserve survey of consumer finances. That also is for "tax advantaged retirement accounts." Probably 10 percent or more retire with 1 million plus in financial assets. Also the 2022 survey of consumer finances has yet higher figures suggested. The last two years of stock market growth will make the figure a lot higher when an updated estimate comes out based on where things are at present.

      Thanks so much! This means a lot to me sometimes I wonder how effective this channel is and then I get responses like yours. I know people need to see these numbers but sometimes I get frustrated on how to get this information out to more people. When I get comments like yours, it makes it all worthwhile. Thanks again.
