It is wild to me that people on the "left" are still uncritically accepting this discredited narrative which is being pushed by the architects of the genocide in Gaza to distract from their own crimes. It's not surprising that the US is supporting them because this perverted form of Islam has been used by the US to sow chaos in countries they try to control. Which part of Uyghur culture is restricted? Their language is an official language that they are educated in and over 90% of them speak (unlike indigenous people in the Canada, whose languages have been erased in actual genocide). There are more mosques in Xinjiang than many muslim majority countries and they are often full. Uyghurs traditional culture is promoted by the Chinese state who encourage people to come there and see Xinjiang for themselves. The US government tries to discourage it's citizens from going there because when people see the reality they know the Western narrative is one of the biggest lies in recent history, all to distract from their own genocide and manufacture consent for war against China. It's racist projection, and the white Canadian "progressives" accept it unquestioningly. These ETIM people do not represent Uyghurs in Xinjiang, they are violent fundamentalists whose biggest complaint is that they don't want their kids to go to school. They are CIA puppets and vicious reactionaries trying to drag their people back into the dark ages. That's why the muslim world doesn't support them.
