People promote a lot of these, ff5 and vandal hearts, let alone you could've timestamped the games rather than numbers. 8:11 number 3 tactics ogre reborn has godawful AI and pulled the rogue class while implementing level caps. No thanks outside cutscene vids well edited on youtube. It also had youtubers playing a couple months before release, so it's not obscure.

Every popular game is overrated. Depending on who you ask. There is no game in existence that's going to connect with everyone. It's impossible. For every game that's been lauded as "Game of the Year" or "The Greatest Game of All Tine!" there is going to be a group of people whi don't understand the hype and wonder how anyone could enjoy what they consider to be "an okay game, at best." That being said, I find Final Fantasy X to be overrated. I enjoyed it, it's a good game, but I don't think it's one of the greatest Final Fantasy games ever made.

The minimum pc system specs for this game more or less match a ps4 pro. So they definitely took this level hardware into account when creating the game, thankfully!

I feel like Okage: Shadow King and Radiata Stories need more attention. Though, as basic as Okage is, maybe it's rated exactly as it should be. I find it charming as hell, though.

Some will hate me for saying this. But I think Chrono Cross on the Original PS1 was and is over rated. I am a huge Chrono Trigger fan, and always wished they just made a part 1 of it with the same style. Great video!

I'm ngl you were kinda spitting with this list. The only one that I outright disagree with is FF6. I almost disagreed with you on Torna but then you reminded me about how awful the mandatory side quests were.

I don't mean to rant, but I will never understand how Dark Cloud 2 is so much more beloved than Rogue Galaxy. I find Dark Cloud's combat super tedious and boring, and it's far more outdated. I believe it's (for most) nostalgia bias. More people played that growing up than Rogue Galaxy, and while I am guilty of having nostalgia for Rogue Galaxy myself, I have put it to the test through numerous playthroughs in more times than I can count and it always holds up. Dark cloud 1 and 2 feel like prototypes to it, which makes sense since it was originally conceived as Dark Cloud 3. I am of the opinion that Rogue Galaxy is Level 5's magnum opus, their RPG design at its finest. The music, artstyle, voiceacting, characters, world, crafting, and gameplay are all outstanding. The common critiques I hear center on its combat and story which I very much disagree with. I guess my point is that is that because of the lack of recognition it so deserved (even to this day) combined with how it didn't do well comercially, we were robbed of a promising new franchise. I suppose many obscure gems share the same fate. Level 5 has made other terrific RPGs like Dragon Quest VIII and Ni no Kuni 1/2, but Rogue Galaxy will always be their best, and I will stand on this hill by my lonesome shaking my fist at the clouds for as long as I live. Anyways, thanks for mentioning it.

Highly recommend Shining Force 1/2/3 if you liked Vandal Hearts. They have a nice blend of traditional RPG traversal and tactical gameplay.

3:45 - 4:39 This is definitely my stance on traditional fighting games. I just suck real bad at them. I also feel I'm more of a turn based guy myself but do enjoy action rpgs with Kingdom Hearts being my favorite kind.

Battles ARE still SLOW as hell/can't CUTSCENE skip and the games AI for boss fights is still PURE CRAP.

I wouldn't even bother with the PS4 version it's clearly not built for it

The ones I always end up recommending are tales of berseria, the ys origins, and the entire arc the lad series.

Actually Dragon Quest 8 had summons to an extent through the Monster Arena and Infamous Monsters. After the Monster Arena quest is done you have access to 2 teams of 3 monsters you can swap in and out to summon later in battle. They also had team attacks (similar to DQ11 pep powers.) In fact with the right combo of monsters and a little luck your monster teams could solo the final boss.

When it comes to that new Class I think it could be a Ranger class like they had in IX. However I feel like since they are adding new Story they could also be adding a Whole new Class system. Sage Will still be the top but I think we might be seeing the return of hybrid classes. So I Feel like this new class could be teir 2 or higher in this new Class system. Yes Dragon quest 3 had somewhat of a hybrid class system but it was more unofficial in how they treated it ~only The Sage class showed change but it wasn't a (Hybrid class)~. You start with a mage then you change them into a warrior and they had higher Magic and magic skills but they was lacking a sprite change to match said growth.Said Growth Being that New Class Picture. If they go about it the way VI did after you went through the first two classes you could open up the Hybrid class those two made. I don't see Monster Master Class being a thing in this game since that class adds Monsters to the party And this Game you've only ever teamed up with Humans. It's More likely the Warrior class and Priest Mixed Or Warrior and Fighter Mixed. Whatever it is Warrior is the base of the combo for sure. Also can people stop acting like the memory feature is new? It was in the GBC version it's not New Just Press The Select Button and you can remember the Conversation. Unless you're talking about what they did in XI where they do a what you last did text cut scene at each start up.

Skies of Arcadia desperately needs a modern port

Strangers of Paradise was far from underrated. Game was mid as hell. I played it solo and was just bored throughout the entire game, didn't bother getting the DLC

I started with 7 and didn't pick up another DQ game until 11 came out. I remember 7 was such a slog with so much back tracking and the graphics looked very outdated for the time. The original 7 also didn't have a Fragment Finder, which made it a nightmare if you missed a single fragment. I thought all DQ games were going to be similar similar to 7, but 11 got me interested in the series. I would start with 3, 8 or 11. I would leave 2 and 7 for last

DQ7 is the metric by which JRPG worldbuilding and party progression both should be measured.

Level 5 are one of the most underappreciated devs ever they put out a lot of great games that seem to go under the radar or are forgotten about

Legend of Dragoon. It’s fun, don’t get me wrong, hearing the technique yelled out every time it’s successfully executed is annoying. Chrono Cross. Graphics were remarkable, music was great, many different characters or aquire. But that COMBAT… that was my downfall.

Star Ocean: Till the End of Time A lot of people dog on this one, but I loved it.
