Garmin Fenix 8 - MIP Solar vs. AMOLED: All Differences + Battery Life Comparison!
Here you can find the watch:
► Garmin Fenix 8*: amzn.to/3zG5L0Q
__________________________________________________________________
The Garmin Fenix 8 is without doubt one of the best sports watches on the market! But at over 1000 dollars, it also comes with a hefty price tag, which is why the choice should of course be carefully considered. The main question here is whether you want the watch in the MIP Solar or AMOLED version. I have tested both models and present all the differences between MIP and AMOLED here, including a battery comparison. Have fun! 😊

Garmin Enduro 3 Review + Comparison to the Fenix 8! (I Was Surprised!)
Переглядів 9 тис.21 годину тому
The Garmin Enduro 3 was released at the same time as the Fenix 8 and is still somewhat overshadowed by it. And wrongly so! Because the Enduro 3 even offers some advantages over the Fenix 8 and, above all, is cheaper. But how does the watch really perform in practice and what differences are there to the Fenix 8? I put the watch through its paces and tell you everything you need to know here. Ha...

On paper, the Amazfit T-Rex 3 sounds almost too good to be true. It offers topographical maps, has a 1.5-inch AMOLED display, is very robust and high-quality thanks to the stainless steel bezel and it has a battery life of up to 27 days. What's really special about this watch, however, is that Amazfit offers all of this for less than 300 dollars. But does the watch live up to all its great-soun...

I got the Fenix 8 Solar as well as the Epix Pro (Gen 2) around the same time. Found myself not really reaching for the MIP version, and liked that the Epix still had UA-cam Music and it has very decent battery life (coming from an Apple Watch Ultra, so you get me). I guess I'm still a sucker for AMOLED screens, but I do like the longer battery life of the Garmin.

Omg MIP is visible only in sunlight , nowhere else 😂 All the time dimmed . ALWAYS ON ? Lets see MIP aod in night without sun , indoor , in shade . Ohhh . You need looking with wrist where is light 😂 Or do the same "annoying" gesture 😂 Everyone is speaking about direct sun for amoled . Yes it is less visible but stil good readable. But it is vinner in 90% all other conditions . I was owner f5,6,7 . But after I tried oled never look back for MIP . Because "outdoor" its not just sun .

Amoled is for tv's and mobiles, where you watch movies, play games and read. I am a GARMIN fun from fenix 5x, 6x, tactix, 7X and last year epix51. Now i am changing back to MIP, it is a watch and you want the info to be there all the time not something to please your eyes.

Yes you sad it right , to read , and readibility this MIP is terrible everywhere , except the sun sorry .But sun was here in germany 2 months this year all the time rainy, fog , or snow , and shit weather . Thats why I sold fenix 7 because screen was blacked out 90% of year . I bought epix pro and never look back to MIP . But its my personal opinion .

Thank you for the in depth review of the watches and their displays. I think a lot of reviewers just point out the basics and don’t really show real world examples, especially when you are training/gps/other modes. It’s nice to see the AMOLED and the MIP displays next to each other, which lets people better decide on which watch they should get based on their intended use.

Long time fenix user I've had the 3 and 5x ordered the Fenix 8 solar to have the MIP. Main reason is no worry about screen burn in issues or pixels going out on the amoled. Since I have long time use from previous watches with the MIP with no issues I'll stick with it. Plus when I'm doing an ultra and out in the sun all day I benefit with solar.

Ive had the Epix for over a year now and would never go back to the MIP I had on the Fenix 6x. I run ultras and have never even thought about battery life. On a normal week I easily get 11 days of battery with always on display. I've also never had any issue with readability with the Amoled

If you work out twice a week that battery life is half. Also even with always on display it's annoying as hell its was coming on and off with wrist movement. MIP will get you 2 or 3 times battery life and you dont have to bring charger on 2 week vacation. You have to bring charger with amoled.

  • @PawelUram

I think comparing 51mm and 47mm battery doesn't make any sense. 51mm watches have 80% bigger batteries. When 47mm AMOLED uses say 5% battery per hour, it would use only 2,7% in 51mm version (theoretically). You have to use identical size watches for the true comparison between MIP vs AMOLED battery life. Otherwise - great review. Thanks for your work.

I also have a detailed review on the Enduro 3 on my channel, where you’ll find all the information you need including a comparison to the Fenix 8. As for using the maps, yes, you don’t have to turn your wrist to wake up the screen. The display is always on. I assume you’re using the maps outside, so here the display is always very bright and easy to read. An exception would be when using the maps outside at night. Here you would have to activate the backlight to be able to see the display. Hope this helps ✌🏼

Really nice video ! I’m considering buying the MIP version in 47mm, but the fact that the screen size is « only » 1.3 inch make me worried. I mean this is the same screen size than the 43mm amoled version so I fear it could be « too small », unfortunately there is for now no video comparing both 47mm AMOLED and MIP. That is a shame that my wrist is too thin to deal with the 51mm version. (16cm)

Also got the grey Ultrafit brand to match better with stainless on the Rolex. Love MIP and when you are outdoors doing GPS activities, you are absorbing solar energy. I find the band width of 26mm for the 51mm looks also ridiculous. It's monstrously big, so as a watch I find that 47mm looks more balanced for ME.

People keep spreading this nonsense garbage lie. Never had that happen with amoled....

Nice video! Really complete! Personally, I was unsure about the solar, everyone I talked was saying the Amoled was just too bright and beautiful, and that I wouldn’t get anything from the solar technology. And actually not! I got my Solar 51 about three days ago and I love it so much! The readability is excellent, even I’d say I’d wish they update a feature that could cancel de light from the Watch (for example, until the night comes). The Watch its not unpleasant to see, but the MIP screen makes it not really interesting unless you want to check something, so it’s not distracting at all and battery friendly. I was also doubtful about the solar thing, but today I made a 4hr hiking and got 253K (it’s supposed to be like 50k/day to get the solar technology working), so it works really well! If anyone is doubting like I was, I would say to get the MIP, because the cool thing of these watches is the long ass battery life, and, also, with more battery life, less charges, which is translated into more quality of the battery for a longer time!

Great video thank you. One thing I don't like about my AMOLED 8 is that the fonts on the watch face for complications are too small and can be harder to read vs the SOLAR version. Hope Garmin catch on and allow users to customise the text size of the watch face, alongside the main menu which is currently an option.

The problem that I have with solar on the Garmin is that you have to charge it regardless of the amount of sunlight it receives. So I’d rather have the amoled display as it’s clearer and easier to read.

I would have gotten the enduro if it came in at least 47mm. That 51 mm size looks ridiculous on most wrists.

it's illogical to demand Enduro in smaller size as in this form factor it will not endure as long as intended

Thank you for an honest review. I watched the Chase the Summit and your review. Both very honest and bought a T Rex 3. I can use the money saved on more trainers and gear for sport.
