I thought this would be a great time to bring out my very first woodstove. The GSTOVE XL. This was the stove that got me so excited for hot tenting.
Tent stoves have come along way in a short time, so let's see if it belongs out in the BEAR tent from The Russian BEAR Market ( RBM )

    What not to do with a hot tent a floor is needed plus you need to stack snow or leaves around tent leave one small spot open for ventilation. The floor open and the bottom open like that no wonder you froze sorry to be blunt i always do this when i camp in a hot tent for weeks at a time never froze I’m fixing up my father’s camp he left me best time in winter no bugs no wild life but frigging cold lol.

      @@HisandHersOutdoors Idk what it is, it’s an old wall tent stove probably from the 80’s or 90’s. I’m heating a 14’x16 wall tent with it. No floor so it goes there the wood. I really enjoyed this video and the breakdown of the tent. I’m looking to get this for hunting trips. Do you see any flaws with it yet?

      Thank you 😊 I did just receive a pellet adapter for the Pomoly Dweller. I haven't used it yet but will be making a vid with soon. Hi and Thanks for the Video ! my solutions to your couple issues would be 1. Coyotes. - urinate at the base of trees around your perimeter, NOT on the ground , but tree bases. 2. Heat - with a tiny battery fan , bring/carry a 3" piece of poly dryer hose ( accordian type ) and pump stove heat directly into your space OR directly into your sleeping bag if needed. the hose weighs nothing and squishes to a tiny size 3. Draft - around the base of the tent use logs or pack snow/leaves to stop any drafts coming in or heat escaping. with small tent camping in winter every degree counts. sometimes even placing rocks on top of your stove stores more heat energy when every bit counts. Thanks and keep Camping !!

      I believe all Pomoly poles are color matching to the tents. The X6 isn't but the poles are all the exact same but this tent is. However all the poles being attached to each other it takes a bit to figure out which colored ones are the short ones. But great idea if they weren't.

    If you got a heater in your tent I don't see how you were cold

    • @HisandHersOutdoors
      @HisandHersOutdoors 16 днів тому

      @carlparks8698 being a mini stove and the bottom of the tent being 3-4" off the ground (no snow/rain skirt) any heat that little stove was creating the -20°C temp rushing in the tent. It took forever just to boil water on. If it had a snow skirt the heat would have remained in the tent and stove would have operated better. Even if the stove wasn't running. It would have warmed up in the tent on its own. 🍻

    Just had a weekend in mine here in 🧊 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 . For setting up the corners do have colour coded threads on them for the grey and black poles. I’ve been staking out on the ground first then it helps with which ways the poles go. For the gaps around the tent I agree, not the best but you can tighten them up slightly. I had my front door tight to the floor by adjusting the tension. My first hot tent and happy with it but agree with your points

      @robbiebaillie1049 yeah all Pomoly tents are conveniently color coded but when freezing, trying to orientate the two short pole get me every time 😂 what we're your temps and what stove did you have?? I want this tent to work for us but no snow/ rain skirt makes no sense. looking forward to your feedback 🍻

    Thanks for sharing about this tent, luckily I contacted Pomoly about whether it had a snow skirt, when they said no, I decided not to buy it.

      Good on you 👍 I just can't think of why they designed it this way. Too bad cause I love the freestanding small size of it. Thanks for watching 🍻

    I saw another UA-camr use this tent in the mountains with a lot of snow on the ground, and on a windy day. He used a hillside as a wind break on the back side of the tent, but seeing so much space between the ground and tent was weird. Even with all the snow on the ground, I think using the snow to seal off the bottom of the tent, all the way around, would have been difficult and burn a lot of unnecessary energy. Pomoly did a poor job designing this tent

      @pbroker i totally agree! I'd love to watch that vid if you can recall?? It's to bad. I absolutely love small imprint hottents. I love sleeping on the ground and enjoying the tent heating up. This tent will never do that.

      @pbroker haa thank you! It came into my suggested videos at the same time. I watched a bit of it and will watch reatvlater on but yeah, I would like to try it out again with some heavy snow. It did look like less of a gap that on flat ground that's forsure. I was also watching how careful he was being around the door area with stove pipe. Thanks for the link 🍻

    Tip for you put your gas in the sleeping bag…get a lighter pair of gloves to do work in that requires dexterity…pile snow or leafy debris all around the base of the tent to stop the draft. Have fun stay safe.

    "Nice" ambiance with those coyote packs arguing. Bet you could sell that soundclip to a studio

    • @HisandHersOutdoors
      @HisandHersOutdoors 20 днів тому

      Man the actual sound level didn't transfer to UA-cam. I'm often around Coyotes but not that many and not that close. You think I was close to their den??

    • @densamme1752
      @densamme1752 20 днів тому

      @HisandHersOutdoors scandinavian so no experience with coyotes but if you park slead teams (huskies) that don't know each other to close together it sounds similar so my guess would be two groups having a "howl of" trying to claim an area. They didn't sync their "timber" wich huskies and wolfs do when meeting packmates. Most canines on the northern hemisphere don't go into heat until February so a bit early for a den.

      @densamme1752 here in 🇨🇦 we'd prob worry more about a skunk or racoon getting into our camp. Black bears are not usually out at this time of year but skunks will crawl right in your tent!!!

  • @densamme1752

    I don't get that design. Why have no snowskirts? From UA-cam I have learnt that many Americans seem afraid of carbon monoxide poisoning, is that the reason? I mean if it's cold enough to kill you condensation is more likely to get you than than the CO.

    • @HisandHersOutdoors
      @HisandHersOutdoors 20 днів тому

      That's a great question? Maybe anyone from anywhere has huge concerns with Carbon Monoxide levels? The Pomoly Locomotive series tents are the same! I have no clue. Even in the summer small animals could get under..

      @densamme1752 “Americans are afraid of carbon monoxide poisoning.” In the last 10 to 20 years, it seems like most of us Americans are afraid of everything, including our own shadow, quite possibly. There’s plenty of very small and inexpensive carbon monoxide detectors to choose from.

      @jimbrown7261 we run two in our tents when running any woodstove or other fuel type heater. It makes my wife feel better and even thought there is always alot of fresh air in these style tents, always be on the safe side. We also always have a mini 🧯 in all our family camps.

    Setting up your tent in a valley didn't help, cold air sinks, so the cold air from the surrounding hills fills the valley making it colder than it would have been on top the hill.

  • @orakelgottes
    @orakelgottes 21 день тому

    The tent will never get warm, because you don't close the bottom part of the tent tightly and thus let the cold air come in

    • @HisandHersOutdoors
      @HisandHersOutdoors 20 днів тому

      Thanks for the comment. That's the issue with this tent! It does not go to the ground anywhere on the tent. It's a few inches above the ground and on uneven ground that could turn into a huge air gap. The spot by the door gets pegged out because it's one large door and has to be pegged out or the door fabric will quickly be up against the stove pipe and melt. And you will at some point burn your self reaching behind the stove to get the door zipper! I was close a few times haa. Thanks for the input and watching 🍻

      Keep a can of bear spray warm by having it in an inside pocket that you keep easy access to by not fastening outer layers. A long nozzle lighter will make it a flamethrower. I see people with bear spray keeping it hanging from their belt in Winter. It WON'T SPRAY when the can is too cold. It will barely sputter. @HisandHersOutdoors

      @HisandHersOutdoors 20 днів тому

      @donolinger6904 thanks so much for that! I have bear spray but honestly have never even tried to practice spray it. From what I've seen most people spray it right in the wind and bed up bear spraying themselves.. thanks for the tips. Much appreciated 🍻

      @HisandHersOutdoors 21 день тому

      @Drewturgin hey, yeah that's a great idea. If there was more snow I would have made a snow wall around the tent but I bet the draft would still rip through! Not sure what they were thinking. Even in a summer rain storm, the rain could blow under? 🍻
