That Edson is downright gorgeous. I usually don’t like inland nibs - I prefer the typical shape as it reminds me of a ballet slipper dancing across the page - but I don’t even care about that where this stunner is concerned.

Love your point about not following the influencers. Although I have to say I bought a Waterman Edson based on your opinion. Bad Pegleg. But I use it every day because it writes like a dream and is probably the most beautiful pen I own. What can I say…every now and then an impulse buy is a home run.

First time commenting… So what is a good place to buy a Montblanc? Fahrney’s? They have a 149 Platinum EF. A pen that is on my grail list.

I'm buying a set of 4 clear Platinum Little Meteors. Lots of third-party nibs that you can get for them Everything higher (for now, sine I've just started collecting Matte Lamy Safaris) is too rich for my blood. Going to enjoy a variety of inks instead.

Just watched this 10 min after purchasing the pen. I've been wanting one for years and could not resist it for €260/$274 🤷🏻‍♂️ We'll see.

Thought provoking video. Yes do not buy counterfeit pens. One thought that struck me is that most fountain pen makers have copied from other makers. There are very few original innovations in fountain pens, with most manufacturers producing variations of the designs from decades ago. The last real innovation was the introduction of cartridges which nearly every maker adopted (copied). There are only a few design shapes and fill mechanisms, so most new pens can be considered a copy or evolution of an older pen. The real thing to look for today is quality. Quality in the finish, the materials used and especially the nibs. The best advice is simply avoid buying poor quality pens.

I've had zero luck with the first luxury fountain pen that I bought, a Montegrappa Fortuna, after having sent it back twice for various nib issues. I took it my second "replacement" to a nibmeister that told me that there wasn't anything they could do to repair the nib as the tipping material was botched by the factory. So while the manufacturer was willing to go back and forth with me on trying to fix my pen the end result was far from an enjoyable pen as it still has nib issues. I've heard lots of folks that are fans of this brand so I won't discount their experience but when it comes to buying a high-end fountain pen I only choose to buy Visconti and Pelikan since every pen I've bought with their name on it were perfect and wonderfully enjoyable to use. I'm also very happy with every Pilot, Sailor, and Esterbrook pens which are also great.

Best point: don't charge beyond your means for a fountain pen. Opinion difference: I would never return to convention watches as I am on my 3rd possibly fourth iWatch. Great advice on tariffs.

Great video with a lot of good advice. I used to avoid lever fillers as they can be a pain to clean. I've relented though and have a mini collection of vintage Conway Stewarts. I've also picked up a Conway Stewart Churchill lever filler. I take your point on vintage lever fillers, which is part of the reason I'm doing the Writing Equipment Society pen repair course.

Those Schmidt nibs might be jowos. :-) According to one of the penmakers, Schmidt doesn't actually manufacture their nibs. They contract it out - and they put the contract out for bid every 2-3 years. Usually they're bock, but sometimes it's jowo.

Hi there! Do I rememer correctly, that you also wanted to do a review of that stunning prototype by gravitas, that you showed briefly in a short? Eager to see, how e-cam is behaved today?! 😂 May I slightly disagree on #2? This is certainly true for pens of high monetary or personal value, but f.e. I own a LOT of Safaris, just so I don't have to swap the nibs all the time I suddenly want to write with a broad or stub. Even when I'm not writing with it, I do always carry one with me to hand to a curious person, wanting to try the feel of writing with a fp. (I would definitely not give them my 2000, in case I got it back with a totally bent nib from some regular ballpoint user...)

You read my mind, I have my mind set on the Waterman Carene eyeiing for blue but you mentioned Amber, now I am torn 😅

I closed my account at Anderson Pens I got the Pelikan M400 in the blue&black with a medium nib,a bottle of Kon-Peki ,and a bottle of Colorverse Office Series blue.Really going to miss them.

Hi HJ! Great video! Your list was very good and thoughtful, I think. Some great things to think about before investing our hard earned money into a new pen. I just purchased a Visconti (mirage mythos), from Appelboom and have asked them to check it. I agree with you it’s always better to have it checked :) It should arrive this week, can’t wait!
