A look inside the malls and retailers that shaped America.
Town Mall of Westminster - Dead but Charming Mall!
Today we visit Town Mall of Westminster in Westminster, MD.
This mall is "out in the country" in Carroll County Maryland, about 30 miles northwest of Baltimore. While approximately 50% of the store fronts are occupied, the stores that were open on this Monday were actually cute.

Today we explore the history and current state of regional department store chain, Belk. Found in the southeaster United States, Belk grew by buying up and converting smaller stores in the region. It's had the same number of stores since 2014, but declared bankruptcy in 2021. Did lockdowns get them, or was their fate a long time coming? For those of you who have been, what do you think of Belk?...

JC Penney: A Retail History
Переглядів 3,2 тис.Рік тому
Join me as I explore the history of a JCPenney, a company that is 120 years old and possibly on its last leg? While it came out of its bankruptcy in a much better position, more than 2/3 of its locations are inside shopping malls, and we all know how those are doing. In my personal opinion, their stores are boring and quiet, which does not make for a fun experience. However, if you're looking f...

Let's tour Citrus Park Town Center in Tampa, FL. This single level mall is north of downtown and doing great! All anchor spaces are occupied, and the former Sears has been turned into an Elev8 Fun. Although, Regal just got kicked out due to the parent company filing bankruptcy, and they allegedly owe the mall more than $1M in rent. Yikes! Have you been to Citrus Park? So sad to see that now there’s only 9 sears left in the world!
I am trying to find out what the pizza place that was on the second floor in the middle of the mall in the 70’s.
I am trying to find out what was the pizza place that was on the second floor in the middle of the mall in the 70’s.
The vacant anchor space has now been turned to Dick’s house of sport.
The carousel 5:32 is one of my biggest memories of this mall, I always rode it as a kid and now when I come there and it’s quiet, all I hear is the echoing little tune it plays almost as if it’s calling out to ask if somebody wants to ride it
I have always been a west shore fan
Your audio processing needs serious work. Voice-over sounds off-mike. Muffled. Overpowered by the music at times.
Send me money so I can hire an editor.
I just wanna say thank you for visiting our mall in Greendale here, our community and I respect 🫡 that you came all the way to our small city to visit our southridge mall! Let’s go team panthers 🐆 for GREENDALE!
Currently their plant care specialist- TOMORROW 10/15/24 THEY WILL START DEMOLISHING BOSTON STORE. Pls help save the 2 trees infront of it😢😭 They have been there since 1967 when it opened!
So much nostalgia from just looking at the people walking inside. I lived walking distance for many years and the mall was always packed with mostly teenagers including myself when the cinema was open. It was a good cinema wonder why it’s closed.
those clothes in Boscov's look horrible lmao
My mom worked at the Kohls that was there for years. Lots of memories visiting there when mom was working and we lived in Franklin.
Somebody spray painted a “monster” on the door.
I don't mess with winn Dixie. I only shop at publix. Their staff is more friendly snd knowledgeable. Theor prices are fair. The stores are cleaner and winn dixie is just all around trash.
I could have sworn it was JC Penny 👀 or Jc Pennys 🤔
Thank you so much for this. I have very fond memories of visiting in the 1980s and 1990s, particularly during the holiday season. It was an annual tradition to sit on Santa's lap at Brookfield Square, and for my parents to go toy shopping at KayBee Toys. I remember when there was still a Woolworth's at the mall as well, and when GameStop was Babbages, and when the "new" food court was installed in the 1990s. I remember shopping at Hot Topic for a birthday present for my elementary school crush, and not being allowed to go into Spencer's Gifts, and waiting for my mom to finish up at Boston Store while sitting next to the natural trees in the atrium. Beautiful memories of this place.
3:33 Look Toys R Us
Originally, Sears was just a stand-alone building and then they built the mall. Previously, it was just woods. We wold drive by it on the way to the Science Center just about every Saturday morning.
I remember seeing Guardians 3 there on a Tuesday right after it came out. And I guess it closed shortly after At that point the theater was probably about 70% abandoned
Ironically, Kohl's is the only company that has a completely original passenger elevator at Coral Square, as three of its mall-based rivals modernized theirs in 2013, 2019 and 2023. m.ua-cam.com/video/1S8yFGSRRAI/v-deo.html
I live 3 miles south of there, used to work at the GNC back in 2010. Haven't been in that mall in around 10 years lol. Such a busy area though, I think it's safe for at least the next 10 years in an era where malls are dying left and right.
My first credit card was a Macys card. I was asked if I wanted to apply when I bought a coat I wanted (Cielo Vista Mall El Paso) I still have my Macy's card.
Westshore Plaza's days are numbered. It's a ghost town these days.
The mall has gone downhill.
I moved to st.pete from new port richey in 1986. I went up to tyrone mall, it was a very busy place. Still looks that way, very clean and lots of stores.
It’s a dump
😢
Orlando is a liberal shit hole . Black on black crime is every where in that city .
I see no issues with ceiling tiles
The AMC is accessible from the outside. If you're on Westshore enter the parking lot closest to The Waffle House. You'll see a parking garage attached to the mall. Go to the third level of it and they have their own entrance.
I already did😎😎😎😎
There is one simple answer! Eddie Lampert happened to Sears! PERIOD!
Nice mall but you sound like you're half asleep. No enthusiasm to keep our interest.
Thanks for watching.
@@malltours No offense. Just thought you'd want to know as I would. Maybe you put in a 12 hour shift for your regular job before doing this when other's had gone to bed?
@@ChatGPT1111 I thought it was an A.I. voice at first.
Used to hang out at this mall alot during the late 2000s when i attended the job corps center out there.
The empty store you looked in was originally a KB Toys. By your pronunciation I can tell that you were most likely not a local. No offense intended
You're correct! I spent my first 23 years in Wisconsin.
@@malltours I lived in sturgeon Bay for a little over a month when I was a kid. Sturgeon Bay had a terrible mall but I remember Green Bay having a pretty nice one
Still love this mall. My teen years spent here in the 90s. My childhood in the 80s! We even had to trick or treat in the mall one year (86??) due to an encephalitis scare. I hope they revive this spot. ❤
I haven't been to a mall in FL for a very long time. Back in the 80s I used to go to Gulf View Square, Countryside, or another one whose name escapes me. I never heard of Tyrone Square. Now that I live in the Tampa area again I'll give it a look. Thanks for the video!
You are better off shopping at Macy’s or JCPenney at the Florida Mall. Both are nicer stores than Sears.
Are you from Florida?
Wisconsin!
Years ago I would sometimes go into the food court for lunch break and it was fairly empty then. I haven't been inside since 2018? There's so many food and retail options in the immediate area, that I don't see much of a point to the mall anymore.
I worked at Tyrone square mall in the mid 80’s for Butler shoes and Red Cross shoes. It’s nice to see that it’s still going when so many malls have closed down.
Yeah it’s funny that the Florida Mall and the Altamonte Springs Mall seem to be doing quite well, but the Fashion Square Mall is doing badly???
Haven't been to this mall in over 20 years. Reason is because all Mall's in Florida are way overpriced items.
Don’t call it a dump it’s … nostalgia 😭
In the 90’s I worked at the Woolworths until it closed in 1994.
That's pretty cool, what was it like?
@@mhmtakeyatime9000 It was actually really cool. The people I worked with were awesome. It was a shame it closed. But that’s what happens. I was at the mall today, it was dead.
@@1524mike That's a shame. I still go to this mall on occasion. Despite it no longer having the traction like it used to, it's still nice to explore.
❤
1 word... Tilt . If you know you know OG's
Right down the street from the Tyrone square mall, is the Chad square mall !!! Little girls grow up and become big girls, and these big girls love both Tyrone and Chad !!!!
Wonderful Video!!!!! I Love the Fountains!!!! F+L, Corey
My cousins lived there when I was a kid. So we used to go to the movies here a bunch. I think the last time I went to that mall was to see return of the king on Christmas like what 20 years ago?.. it’s not too far from me though. Crazy to me though that our mall in Frederick is still pretty busy. Frederick does have like 4+ times the amount of population as Westminster, so that’s probably why. I had to come back and edit this after seeing the little ramp area where KB toys was, and a comic book store. Just made me remember being obsessed with x men. Carroll county is wild though. Not somewhere that I choose to go when not working. Weird religious and political merch in a sports store is on brand for that county. Sticks out as the most odd county that doesn’t seem to belong in central Maryland.
