Can I get the Ordinary Visa upon arrival and then convert it to a Retirement Visa within 30 days ?
Yes, that's the usual way to go about it. Make sure to visit an agency to get the retirement extension at least a week before the ordinary visa expires to account for processing time.
1. I have no family and very few friends 2. I don't really care about "entertainment" in The US 3. I eat all my meals at home, and I eat simply 4. I don't drink alcohol 5. Food is not a big deal to me 6. I'm retired and don't need to work 7. The weather and "the seasons" are not a problem 8. I'm not in a hurry to get or do anything 9. I have PLENTY of money so "expensive" items are not a concern 10. I LOVE to haggle 11. I enjoy culture differences 12. I'm learning Khmer and I have a great audio translation phone app 13. I prefer to be patient and calm - SO, no worries when I "retire" in Siem Reap 4/2025
Hi, this might peak your interest, Hanuman Films is looking to film in Cambodia. I just heard an interview of Nick Ray on The Diplomat on UA-cam. May be this could lead you to your field of work. Hope you’re doing well.

The only danger in cambodia is when the western kiddy fiddlers turn up to prey on young poverty stricken kids,so the only danger is for the cambodians
Love watching your videos out of Cambodia---and now you're living the American nightmare. Can't you obtain retirement from Social Security? (obviously you have looked for that avenue but I had to write it--sorry!). I truly hope you find a way to resolve the trap and that you can somehow find a way to regain your wonderful life in Cambodia. Hope you can be hired online by a Cambodian firm and return. Your videos are very welcomed by me, after finding other videos about Cambodia yours is the most detailed without annoying advertising-style exuberance which is tiresome. Your soothing voice really helps a lot in detailing information. I hope your wonderful talents will find a place to return or live in the luxury you deserve.
Why do all these places require someone to be 55 or older to retire? What's the love affair with a certain age? Makes everything difficult for other people retired younger. It's very discriminatory.
Cambodia is not really a Homophobic country the President of Cambodia openly talk about this and praise LGBT 🏳️⚧️ communities how much they tribute to the country most of designer are LGBT
Good info Thanks ! 😊
Thanks,, I'm retired and once had a 10 year China Visa which was cancelled before term because of the Covid pandemic in 2020. Since then I'm back in the USA but not really happy here. Since China/ USA relations soured it doesn't look possible to return to China. Since I'm familiar with Southern China and Vietnam (because of exit-entry experience, I like Vietnam, but Cambodia may be easier for a long term Visa. But, I still have questions on how to get a Cambodia Visa within the USA where I live.. So, I'll have to listen to your podcasts to learn more on the beginning stages of acquiring a Visa to enter Cambodia. Still not clear on how to do this. Thanks for this podcast for it is helpful..
You don't need to get a visa beforehand. Just go to the official site at www.evisa.gov.kh/ and fill in your info about a a month or two before you leave. No earlier than that. Then bring your $35 USD (crisp, clean notes). The site will generate a QR code that you scan at the entry desk, then you pay, they stamp your passport, and you're in. Just make sure you're selecting the E (ordinary, not tourist) visa when you do this if you're planning on staying more than 30 days.
But the website says that to apply for E type you must have offer of work/business etc so how do you get around that? Im not working im retired. If i choose E the form asks for a whole bunch if documents such as invitation letter, patent cert, investment project, flight ticket in and out.
For the E (ordinary) visa, all you need is a valid passport and $35 USD. The only thing that would require work is the EB business visa extension. If you're planning on retiring in Cambodia, that's the ER visa extension and as long as you're 55+, that's the only requirement.
These are old fashioned customs som3 are carried on but moving forwa5d Khmer is looking to be more capitalist and less communist. Especially the youth population but you cam be old fashioned. People in america call it bible thumpers.
I haven't heard the term bible thumpers being used for that. We generally use it as a term for people who aggressively push Christianity onto others. Thankfully, they are not very widespread in Cambodia.
I'm currently doing an essay about Cambodia cuisine and this is a lot of help. Ty, appreciate it. Btw I'm a little bit confused about how Cambodians sit people on the dining table, can you explain it to me ?
There's not really a specific way of seating. Many rural people don't have a dining table, but sit on the floor to eat. Wealthier people may have a dining room setup, but I don't know of any specific etiquette regarding it.
I often joke that the only thing I miss about the US is the redwoods and In'n'Out burger! I'm looking forward to your trip to the Sequoias - take a big sniff of the "butterscotch" bark for me

Rockin' 'til the dawn!
Thank you so much for your video. Everything’s you said is accurate . I appreciate you so much brother.
It's a common expat experience to jump back to the familiar, then miss the new and return. Rinse and repeat. But it's all learning... about you, your preferences, the new country, and what you love and value most about the USA. I live in Ecuador as we speak and many who return to the US end up back or they explore new countries. There's no "right" way to do expat life. Thanks for your insights.
good luck 2 U
Well done
Here’s a question you’ve probably encountered before, but I’m wondering if there ‘s been an update.. Is there an age at which Cambodian law requires health insurance, r is it simply ‘highly recommended’?
Cambodia doesn't require it at all, but it is a good idea.
I’m 36 about to turn 37 in a couple weeks and i feel like in not doing enough with my life, so i made the jump and I’m moving January 15th to Phnom Penh to teach English. Can’t wait to move there ❤
Great insights. I'm an expat living in Ecuador as we speak, thinking of a move to Cambodia. Expat life is not for everyone. When you talk to those who ditch expat life, it's all the things you mention...relationship disruption, can't get "stuff" you value, cultural weirdness (do they eat the head of the fried ginny pigs?), and weather. The heat and humidity are the remaining concerns. Share thoughts on police corruption (do they investigate crimes?) and where expats tend to get into trouble in Cambodia and Siem Reap. Cheers.
There may be exceptions in some markets, but in a lot of places the only realistic way to get a job is through a connection. Sending out resumes is utterly hopeless.
Cheers. I'm planning on moving to Cambodia.Thank you so much for your honest and genuine adviice about moving to another country with a different culture. We need more people like you vlogging. Enjoy your life. Maybe we will meet one day.
Sounds fun. You're ticking all the boxes! Hope to be out there sooner rather than later. Who knows, we may end up being a couple of AZ boys as neighbors;-) keep up the good work- G.
Cambodia is like most countries in that opportunist crime is common. Be smart and aware. Don't leave your phone on the table at a restaurant. Ask the locals about places and times to avoid. They know. Don't hit a massage place with a lot of money in your pocket.
you are fantastic your blog is super,I hope I can meet another vlog or blog again , Have good .
Go to Cambodia and find a teaching job . They pay like $700to $900 a month.
How can we get a hold of you?
AH, I forgot to put this in the description. Here's the FB page: facebook.com/profile.php?id=61565950749081
You siem reap youtubers got me pumped for cambodia. I am looking forward to getting there maybe in next 4 years or sooner hopefully. Trying to do cambly but its not much pay even living as nomad. Still working on passing prop firm combine with topstep. I have a cat so i converted a cargo trailer to camper so we could survive. I was actually getting ready to fly to phillipines with cat and had tickets etc. then covid hit. So then i was forced to get an apartment again which i hated. My cat is 18 yo and i dont want to put her through trauma of flying so im with her till the end and then will go. Life does have unforseen changes and even if you do all of the right things , the Gods plan can be different.
You must have the world's oldest cat. I did a search awhile back and it said that cats can live up to 15 years. Our cats have always lived to around 7 or 8 years old, but they were in and out cats, because we liked to let our house cats go outside to enjoy the sunshine whenever they liked and then come back in when they wanted back in the house.
The reasons why people are moving to Cambodia is are because of the followings: 1. Affordability: food, accommodation & transportation and everything is available . 2. Culture: rich, ancient and unique 3. People: friendliness, kindness, politeness and respect for foreigners and elderly 4. Visa & regulations: the world easiest, just go to agent and you get things done. 5. Landscape: Angkor Wat $ other 8000+ temples - to Phnom Penh (bustling capital city, and Sihanouk Ville), beaches (pristine and white af) to laid back town (Kampot, Kep & Battambang) to natural landscape in the northeast. 6. Integration: Cambodia is one of easiest to integrate or blend into. 7. Languages: Everyone speak basic/communicative English. People also speak Chinese. National language is Khmer. 8. Business & Growth: Cambodia is one of the world fastest growing economies, and it is very easy to start a business. 9. Cheap Labor: you actually can have a house maid for just $250 monthly.

Scams happen in every country, not just Cambodia but Thailand and Vietnam.
Hey Bill, so finally it's going to be indeed a car living for you. 😢 I described to your new channel. Now I'm wondering, why can't you live out of your car in cambodia? Or would be a lot cheaper or is that not true? Or even a $150 or cheaper cambodia hotel room? I will be there from the beginning of February and still would offer you a bedroom when I have found my little 2 room house around kampot. 😊. Never forgot you have a friend here❤. For now I wish you all the best that this world can offer you. Enjoy the concert (or if you need money; sell the ticket). And I'm looking forward to following you and your new channel. I send you lots of love and blessings ❤😊
Thank you! It would cost more than the car is worth to get it over to Cambodia and I wouldn't want to live out of it there. If I can find solid remote work then I can get there sooner, but the job market has been ridiculous. I wouldn't want to go there without already having work. I did that last time and it didn't work out. I hope you enjoy the new channel!
I've liked and subscribed too, thank you for the update. Wishing you all the best! I'm not offering advice, and maybe you answered this somewhere else. You seem like you'd be an excellent English teacher. I'm sure you've thought about it. Do you mind sharing why you chose not to teach English abroad? Thank you and take care! Look forward to more videos on your new channel.
I'd be okay with teaching adults, but don't really like being around kids much. I was going to teach last time I was in Cambodia but wasn't able to find work in Siem Reap very easily. I wouldn't want to live in Phnom Penh.
@@cambodiyeah1 Thanks so much for your reply! Take care and look forward to more videos.
For someone at your age, not married or have kids to be in the position you are in is not good bro. Why not find a warehouse or security type job, rent a cheap room somewhere and save to make a decent life in Cambodia? Just thinking out loud.
Not everyone needs or wants kids or marriage. Many people are intentionally childfree. There's no one right way for all and there's nothing wrong with doing neither of those things.
@cambodiyeah1 I'm making the point that for a single man, you don't have the financial responsibility of kids/ wife so you should be in much better position at your age bro.
Many Blessings
@@Don-Muttley I hear that. A lot of folks are in situations now they never thought they'd be in. People with way more qualifications than I have. Some had enough savings to keep looking for months. Many others don't. Many people are finding that one can do everything right and still lose it all. The job market right now is brutal and unlike anything I've ever seen. Hundreds of applicants for every job, over half the jobs listed are fake, scams, or "ghost" jobs that companies have no intention to fill. Many who saved for retirement can't retire because the prices of everything have skyrocketed. It's an insane time right now.
@cambodiyeah1 You're right but also it's right that people make silly decisions. Why buy a car on a lease after you came back from Cambodia?? You should have bought a cheap car to run around.. A single man at your age that has plans to travel and move abroad should of been much better equipped... Its obvious that having too many hands in different pies makes life complicated.
Liked and subscribed.
Thank you!
Great video. Thank you. The shared map is great idea and very useful. I'll be using it for the first month I'm in SR. Lots of good pins! :)
Life has a way of throwing us curve balls. Don't give up, keep swinging. Have you considered looking for a company in your home country that is seeking someone with your skill set to represent them in SE Asia? I don't know where to tell you to look specifically for these companies but they're out there. Call center management, manufacturing, banking and investment firms are possibilities. Good luck.
I am 76 and seven years comfortably retired in Cambodia after a long professional career in the US. I often worry about what younger guys like you are going to do later in life without savings or retirement income.
Im 60 yrs old and my wife is 49 can I get both of us on the retirement visa she is dependent upon my income
Sometimes the agancies will make an exception but it's up to them. It's not part of the regular rules, though.
Any thoughts on teaching english so you can stay in country...........
Might see you at quartzite if im here. just a a few personal questions to see if there are available options for you.. Do u smoke cigarettes, do u have any addictions and if u do which ones. would you be willing to get a police report to see if your record is clean? im asking because I have a two bedroom 1 hour away from Bakersfield in California in the mountains 3000 ft above sea level.Very Quiet.. I might be looking for a home sitter for the few months I would be gone.??
While I meet your criteria and appreciate the offer, I currently need to stay in larger cities for a while to do gig work, food delivery, etc.
Did you go to X bar if so what is the vibe?
I haven't been yet.
@cambodiyeah1 thanks for the reply
I have been doing vanlife for 5 years I have no bills and stacking money in my bank. It's the only reason I can afford to go to Cambodia 🇰🇭 Try vanlife bro
I don't have a van, but I will be living out of my Prius.
@cambodiyeah1 if you can get a trade vanlife is the easy life.
Keep your chin up! Good luck.
Nice video, Bill. I learned a lot from going to expat bars. Job vacancies, visa agents, where to find things, etc. There are some real idiots on the Facebook and Reddit pages, so I only use them as a last resort.
Good to see you back, Bill. Cambodia, if you are undisciplined, can chew you up and spit you out. I've been here for a year now, and it's a real double edged sword.
Hey brother, glad to see you on here. I hope you're doing well!
cheap r living on utube brings living in ur car top notch. Many van car dwellers have utube channels.
I've been checking it out. Lots of good info! I'll likely go to Quartzsite this January for the RTR.
