Welcome to my channel. I read a lot. I write a little. And I travel a bit.
My top 10 favourite books of 2024
I read so many good books in 2024 so putting down a top 10 list was super difficult. I managed it though, with a couple of honourable mentions in there as well. I hope you enjoy :)

Wives and Daughters was in my Top 10 too, it's a real shame there was no ending as North and South has one of the best endings ever. Piranesi blew my mind too, I need to read Jonathan Strange this year. Middlemarch and Jane Eyre were on my top 10 the previous year, although I prefer Middlemarch and watching bits of the miniseries this year reminded me how much I love the characters. I do have the rest of Charlotte Bronte left to read, I should have saved it!
@AaronReadABook I need to get my hands on the Middlemarch mini-series. I'm very excited to read North and South soon.
I really want to try Elizabeth Gaskell this year. And I love The Woman in White!
@@Maeve_Ever_Books Oh, I hope you do enjoy Gaskell when you read her 😊
@ I’m sure I will! I’ve heard wonderful things!
"Its a good one to get into classics if you don't mind miserableness" 😂 I love that I feel you on there just being so many good books read in last year. Having a real time narrowing mine down too. Woman in White is definitely in my favorites too! Piranesi is just about a perfect novel, everything has a place. It reads like a thriller too. Independent People is on my tbr shelf for the year, glad it made an impact, I'm even more excited to get to it.
@@ReadBecca Yes, Piranesi is so many things!
I completely agree that you should start with Charlotte Brontë's other novels before reading Jane Eyre! Jane Eyre is fantastic and the others just can't complete!
We watched the film for A man called Ove over the holidays and my 14 years old son and I were crying like babies at the end! I had read the book years ago and I knew what was coming but I couldn’t help myself… Jane Eyre is son good! ❤
@@julieg_quebec-julesselivre8641 ❤️
Hello Bryndis! You are giving me the urge to read all the classics waiting on my TBR pile!!!😅
@@julieg_quebec-julesselivre8641 Excellent 😊
So glad you found so many new books you love! I know I can always count on you for classics recommendations so I will refer to this list if I’m in the mood for a classic, haha. Piranesi made it to number 5 for me as well, so good!! Agree with everything you said about it. Hmm, good point about not starting with Jane Eyre so I end with her best one. Maybe I’ll check out another of one of her books first and then get to Jane Eyre! And very happy to see a Fredrik Backman here and glad that Ove affected you, even though it was really hard to revisit that grief. I haven’t experienced those things so it didn’t hit me as hard as it did for you but it’s still a really good book ❤️
@@LibrariesandLattes Thank you. I think that if you are not necessarily interested in reading all of Charlotte Bronté's work, you can safely read Jane Eyre first. It is a fantastic book!
Jane Eyre is my favorite book of all time - I'm glad you enjoyed it! I really need to read Piranesi this year. What a great reading year!
@@JessicasLibraryCard Thank you, Jane Eyre is definitely á fantastic book!

Thanks for the December reviews. Will you be reading Miss Marple, T&T, or any other Agatha Christie series after Poirot?
@agathayo7344 Yes, I do plan on continuing on with all of her books. Forcing myself to take a little break and get some other books read for now but I look forward to getting to Miss Marple. I really enjoyed those books, maybe even more than Poirot 😱
Bryndis, I swear we were meant to be friends! I am so glad you had a restful break and your hometown looks like a dream! Visiting Iceland one day is a goal of mine. You read so many good things and I cannot believe how similar our reading tastes are. For the Agatha Christies you read I think Cat Among the Pigeons was my most “eh 😐” out of them. I also find the Gobe bits hilarious because I can always picture it. For the Tolkien, I can so relate to your feeling of joy because they are also my favorite and I am so impressed by how much you read. I have never read Beren and Luthien but it is on my shelf waiting til I get through The Silmarillion. You just let me know whenever you want to do a Tolkien or Christie buddy read and I am here for it 😊
@MyMessyBookshelf I know! I'm always amazed when I'm watching your videos, our reading tastes are so similar! I would love to do a buddy read 📚
I love listening to your reviews of Agatha Christie’s books. You have motivated me to do some rereading! Have you read her novels published under the pseudonym Mary Westmacott? They are delightful!
@@pamc6594 Thank you 😊 I haven't read any of her Westmacott books yet but am definitely interested in doing that.
I think your kitty wants his own shelf! Love the way you styled your shelves. So many classic Agatha Christie books, I'm jealous!
Thank you 🙂 My cat obviously thinks this whole apartment is her domain 😆
@Bryndisdaugtherofgunnar as it should be 😄
You read so many things! 😊 I know you want to complete projects, but the most important thing is that you are enjoying yourself, and just because it’s a new year doesn’t mean you have to stop. It’s nice when it’s neat though! I chuckled at you trying to get the animal title right 😅 small and cute? big and brave? small and YOUNG and beautiful?! 😂
I just barely said The bold and the beautiful ;)
@ 😂
My best books of December were. -The Wedding People by Alison Espach -North is the Night by Emily Rath (based on Finnish mythology) I'm the only one that doesn't like the Andy Sirkis audiobooks, I own and listened to The Hobbit and wasn't a fan unfortunatly. (Love the book other times I read it). The newest Sigurðardóttir book in English is "Can't Run, Can't Hide", but it's still very expencive. It's $39.74 which is 5,861.65 Króna I'm currently reading a nonfiction called "Njord and Skaði: a myth explored" by Sheena McGrath and it mentioned Tolkien, here's most of page 127. 『It seems appropriate that the modern variant on the Njord - Skadi story comes from Tolkien. The story goes that two races, the Black Númenóreans and the Gondorians, were at war. The Gondorians and Arnorians were breakaway Numenoreans who considered the others to be renegades.[178] It is not known why the Gondorian king Falastur married Berúthiel of the Númenóreans, presumably as a political accommodation. She went to live in Pelargir, Falastur's home, which was by the sea. She hated the smell of the sea and fish, and the noise of gulls. She wore dark clothing and loathed all ornament. Her name means something like "Angry Queen".[179] She became proverbial, to the point where more than 2,000 years later Aragorn mentions her and her cats in an off-hand remark.[180] Unlike Skadi, she was exiled by the Gondorians and returned home. Tolkien himself commented that Berúthiel was like Skadi, since both disliked their maritial homes.』
@zachreads Can't run Can't hide is a good one. The price you mentioned is still cheaper than here, new hardbacks are often closervto 7000ISK! That non fiction sounds very interesting!
Love the kitty helps 😄 the final look of that main shelf turned out great! I like to do bookshelf resets with the new year as well, it held keep them fresh.

Absolutely loved your thoughts, and final rearrangement of your so special, and meaningfully curated collection. Seeing them placed carefully with thought and pleasure, will be, as you suggested a daily joy.

The special edition shelf looks so nice! 😍 Very well styled! The other ones look really good as well, and I completely agree that books make any room feel more cozy and homey. I feel like it’s good for sound levels too. “Where is my finger?” 😂 The older books look so cool as well, if you only have one or two they can look a bit weird but when there are several volumes next to each other like you have 👌 so nice! And everything goes very well with your green wall and decor, and the shelves themselves are so pretty as well . Good job 😊
@@ellenmadebookclub Thank you, I'm very happy with how it turned out 😊

Love your sweater! And I’m so glad you’re not putting pressure on yourself to finish any books you’re not liking or to force yourself to stick to a big TBR. Great way to start the year 😊 I hope you like Bands of Mourning, I’m planning to get into Mistborn this year!
@@LibrariesandLattes Thank you 😊 It feels good to make room for mood reading, for sure. I'm confident you will enjoy Mistborn, I really hope so at least.
My plan for 2025 is no plan, there are several books about or inspired by my fav character from. Norse myth Skaði. I have "Skaði Goddess of Winter's Hunt" by Skye Hellviolet, Skaði's Saga" by Phil Tucker, "Njord and Skaði " by Sheena McGrath, so I hope they are good! And the top two romances I want to get to are Cleat Cute by Meryl Smithetsman and Set the Record Straigjt by Hannah Bonam-Young. It's not a real tbr, but that's kind of a tbr(ish) thing!
@@zachreads Those Skaði books sound interesting.
It makes me so happy to see everyone being kind to themselves in the new year! 😊 I think you’ve got a great setup for you tbr/pop there. Ideally you would feel like you did for Moonstone for every book! But then some are good surprises too, so it’s good to be open to trying other ones as well. I will hold you to the dnf and unhaul though! 😂 I had plans, and then I have more leftovers from December than I wanted and also lots of books coming from the library, so I’m lost under a pile of books! It’s fine though, no pressure! 😊
@ellenmadebookclub It seems to be a trend to be kind and gentle with the goals this year. Almost everyone is talking about that. I do hope that the books I'm less excited about will surprise me 😊
I’m turning 50 in November - how did that happen! Scary and makes me rethink a lot of things. Need to be ruthless and go though my unread books and keep what I want and get rid of anything I’m not ‘feeling’ here’s to a wonderful year xx

I am all about slow living and slow reading. I have made a bunch of reading plans for 2025 that I am pretty sure are not very realistic and are not achievable at all. So will slowly end up changing my mind about all of them. Oh well. I hope you have a happy new year! 🎉
@jennyjaybles I'm apt to make very ambitious plans about everything I love.m, so this no-plan year is actually a challenge for me 🤣
These sound like great intentions to me! I’m feeling a similar ways, I like to plan and I like plans, and I tend to go all in, but for 2025 I want to enjoy myself and have zero pressure.
