Well done Bryndis, you definitely deserve a pat on the back. First of all, War and Peace has to count as like four books. What an achievement! ✨
And A man called Ove. It is such a good book. I agree that the love story is probably the most beautiful one I’ve ever read or seen or anything, it is so simple and sure. I loved the quote you mentioned as well, that she was all the colors.
I could also relate to grief, and I can’t even write it here because it’s too much, but I feel your pain and I love what you said about books being a way for us to work through our own lives. I absolutely agree. And I also felt similarly when I read it that… emotional stories are hard to read, but it also wakes something inside us and it makes it more clear what’s important and it’s a kind of release when a book makes you cry and you can finally look at the things you’ve tried to push away.
I’m proud of you for getting through it and even though it was hard it seems like it was healing for you and for that I’m happy. Even though yes, time doesn’t heal but we learn to live with it.
Anyway. Sending you a big hug and keep taking care of you 💜

You definitely deserve a pat on the back for completing War and Peace, that’s quite the accomplishment haha 👏👏👏 So glad you loved A Man Called Ove, even though it was so heavy and emotional for you! Thanks for sharing so personally, I’m so sorry about your brother and sister-in-law. ❤️ The relationship between Ove and his wife reminded me of my grandparents and definitely made me emotional. I 100% agree that it should be more advertised that there’s suicide in the book, especially since it’s such a big part of the plot. And yes I love that books can have such an impact on our lives and healing journeys too, Backman does such a good job of that in all his books I’ve read so far!

My condolences regarding the loss of your brother. It is always so difficult to go through something like that particularly with a close family member. I understand completely why the book effected you so deeply. But on a lighter note, thanks so much for the shoutout! It is an excellent book and I look forward to reading more from Backman. Take care.

I read my new best book of the year in August too! It was Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus.
The most emotional book I've read this year was Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See.
The book tbat made me cry most was The Witch's Heart by Genevieve Gornichec, it's Norse myth from Angrboða's perspective and the only time Ragnarök has made me cry.

Dear Bryndis, that must have been such a difficult, emotional and also in a way healing experience for you to read A man called Ove. I feel like that is also why authors write, to create something that speaks to someone on a deeper level and to find solace in a book, in which ever way.

@@marcellainthemargins Exactly! It was a very difficult read but it has also helped. Talking about the difficult things always helps me work through them.
