Переглядів 32 тис.3 роки тому
This video is to show all the works and progress so far on Island Line on the Isle of Wight as upgrading work continues in preparation for the new to Island Line trains to start running later this year, i have filmed Shanklin, Lake, Sandown, Brading & Ryde St.Johns. I took photos of Ryde Esplanade & Ryde Pier Head as not much work has been done at these stations. At every point of filming i mad...

Could have done without the stupid music.
Made on TikTok with credit to original music owner!
Marvellous video. Great visual detail for modellers. Very clear pictures and easy to watch, too. Thanks for taking and sharing this super video!!!
very interesting video
Would like to have seen the former Bembridge Platform at Brading at least hold a pair of the old stock as some kind of useful something ! (though I understand the rust problem with them)
Given the amount of hardware and effective line rebuilding the cost to re-instate to ventor would have been marginal (and the IoWSR to Newport)
Great Shots Thanks
Great video!
Class 484 003 was the first onto the pier - 9 Sep 21 - and did an evacuation exercise.
Are they going to scrap or mueseum
Museum although some are being sent for scrap
very nice livery
Same as Class 444 and 450 Desiros on the Portsmouth-Waterloo services. But yes, very nice and not so garish.
Where is she going?
Very smart, I love the single leaf doors of the `D' stock.
And just in case anyone's watching this who doesn't understand electrified railways, the current to the live rails on this line would of course be switched OFF and securely shorted out to prevent it from accidently coming back on to keep the workmen safe. But once it's back in service the current is ON 24/7, and that includes the sidings at the depots so keep off. If you lose your foot ball on the line, tough, get another.
Why does such an otherwise good video have to be ruined by such an excruciating sound track? So-called "whistling" is absolute torture for some folk. But at least here I can hit the mute button unlike in supermarkets.
i think they should do a NHS livery for one of the units and maby a old TFL livery or NSE or something If you wanna be a c*ck about my idea go away
Brilliant Idea 💡
Ex LUL D stock conversions by Vivarail, Long Marston.
Looking forward travelling on these trains, miss the other trains.
Yes one day to Ventnor
I hope the next operator of the island line when its time to replace these bad boys won't ruin the tradition of old underground stock
The reason ex LU stock is used is because of Dimensions of the tunnel beneath Rhyde which would result in larger trains getting stuck!
simply went from tube stock to subsurface stock from older underground trains
Human beings are never satisfied.
@@philipbonner6486 never said that was a bad thing, infact i was mainly referring to the fact that they kept to using old underground stock, its unique
Great video. ☺️
Excellent. I shall look forward to riding on it late September as my wife and I will be making our second visit to the island. this time with our son and his girlfriend. I plan to travel the entire route from Ryde to Shanklin for the first time, taking in the steam railway again, too.
Enjoy.
I still miss the old fleet though.
I was last there in 1986 during the last years of Standard Stock and completely missed the 1938 Stock.
Looking good!
And to Ventnor
Terrrible music ---not necessary.
Thank you for your comment sorry you didn’t like the music
When does the new service start? Does anyone know?
I think it starts at the 1st of August
@@rail_roadgaming677: The reopening date seems a bit sketchy but I know the Island Line bus replacement finishes on 3rd September but I guess it could be withdrawn if the railway reopens before that date.
Thanks. I suspect that they do not know either.
@@rail_roadgaming677 With the 1st August date passed now, and (as far as I know) three out of the five two-car units still on the mainland, I think they're reluctant to release a proposed opening date at the moment, and just concentrating in getting things completed as soon as possible. They could well take us by surprise with hardly any notice when it does open.
Very smart. Gives the railway a dedicated modern look. Look forward to having a trip.🇬🇧
At last!
Great video. ☺️ Edit: I just subscribed to ur UA-cam channel.
Thank you so much I’m glad you liked the video and thank you for subscribing :)
@@photographyrue Ur welcome. ☺️
bloody hell 483004 u good bud?
That pallet at 6:21 could have been moved for more room! Are those single panel doors? Or maybe temporary? Which direction do they open?
I’m not sure on the answers unfortunately sorry
Great Video. Any chance of another " drone fly past" to show progress since this video? A lot of work has been going on, especially at Brading, with a new (temporary?) footbridge. The wide "yellow" strips on the platforms include the tactile surfacing for the visually impaired, but do emphasis the narrowness of some platforms. The platform overlays to raise the height are only long enough for a pair of 484s. The line can't be extended south of Shanklin, as most of the formation and the station sites at Wroxall and Ventnor have been lost. There is a new(ish) road on the track formation immediately to the south of Shanklin, where the Languard Road bridge used to be. The Class 483s seen in Ryde Depot yard are (l to r) 008, 006 and 004. 007 was inside the shed and is now at the IOWSR. 004 has gone to "House of Chilli" at Holliers, Hale Common, for use as cafe seating area (eventually). 008 is in Sandown Engineers' Siding, awaiting its move to the mainland. 006 is currently stabled in Platform 3 siding at St. John's Road alongside footbridge, also awaiting its move.
Thank you glad you like the video, I will try get a updated drone shot soon :)
Am I right in thinking that this station originally had a second platform that's now under all that foliage?
I think so but not definitely sure
483007 'Jess Harper' has made the (admittedly very short) journey to her new forever home as the IOWSR's first EMU! Since 483007 was one of the last 483s to be overhauled at Ryde TMD, it'll be interesting to see how the battery modifications go in the future, as it's been said that the steam railway may carry out such a conversion so 483007 can use their line.
Her time on the island may be drawing to a close, but soon 483008 and her running mate 483006 will be destined for new journeys on the mainland. It's great to see these trains preserved for future viewers to see!
Some really cool footage here! I have a feeling this might not be the last time we see upgrade works on this sort of scale on the Isle of Wight, since there's been an Ideas Fund set aside by the government to look into a potential extension of the line south towards Ventnor and west to Newport - though it'll be a long endeavour and the lines probably wouldn't be able to follow the original track in places, due to widespread building on the route, it'd be really cool to see more areas of the island connected by rail. Looks like even the stations are being given a much-deserved refurb after thirty years of being exposed to the sun and salty air! I'm really looking forward to visiting again when it's all set up and the situation with the pandemic is a bit better - my family own a house in Lake and we often go there in the summer, so I've ridden on the Island Line quite a bit.
Thank you glad you like the video
May i say some very nice music.
Thank you very much :)
As ever ex lu stock for the island. This time d-stock from the district and circle. Rushed out because the then mayor thought the new s-stock could be run driverless. Could've seen many more years service on lu
is there more comeing?
Yes soon :)
Did we really need the shit music?
Thank you for your comment, sorry to hear you didn’t like the music I do put music over drone videos as there is no sounds but I’m exploring new ideas
Back in the 1960s, they lowered the platforms when they replaced the steam trains with electric tube trains. Now they're raising them again 50 years later when the tube trains are being replaced by larger London Underground trains
Great footage of a start of a new chapter in Isle of Wight railways. I would be great if the rest of the network that was shut down, reopened. Then all residents could take advantage of these Viva rail reworked units.
Thank you glad you like my video :)
Awesome and well made video! So how many 484s are on the Island now?
Thank you, there are currently 2
shame the last day blinds were sold on ebay, now it doesn't go with 007
That is a shame I didn’t know that
Is that train track open?
No currently closed no date for opening yet
Ok!
Will this be replacing the current steam engines on the island?
There are no current steam engines on the island. The new trains’ predecessors are refurbished London Underground 1938 (maybe ‘62 actually) deep level tube stock. They are lower and narrower than these, which are extensively refurbished ex London Underground 1992 ‘D’ sub-surface line stock, almost the same size as ordinary standard gauge BR stock. All of the island’s stations have had to have new, higher level platforms constructed to accommodate them.
@@Twittler1 Thank you for the information. I was under the impression steam engines were only used as each time I've seem picture of IOM railways, its pictures of steam engines
@@username9175 This is the Isle Of Wight, across the Solent from Southampton and Portsmouth. The IoM is over 200 miles north.
Great video, thanks. Be nice when these are up and running. Would be so much better to have the original video sound, would complete the working atmosphere, rather than that music.
Thank you glad you like my video, shame you didn’t like the music but thank you for the comment
@@photographyrue The music... what were you thinking of?!
It’s music that is available on my editing software I only have limited availability but I am looking to change this :)
Did hundreds of journeys on this class stock, to and from school in London, when they were on the Northern Line in the 1960's. Didn't visit IOW often enough to get around to riding them there.
