That music you have inthe background is not only creepy but it is giving me a headache!
I installed a rifle basix in a savage 110 that was easier than that but still a pain. NO GUNSMITHING REQUIRED!!!😊😊😊😊
🤣 nope! Gunsmiths are expendable! 😂 I actually have a video in the pipeline featuring a full blueprint of a Savage 110 and one of those Rifle Basix trigger installs coming soon! Thanks for watching!!
@@AccurateRiflesandRestorations cool brother good job!
Wouldnt you want to remove the tool end of the spring compressor not the factory threads on the bolt so it dont pull the end of the thread over buy pressure it's better to fix a tool also the the threads on the tool look acme just saying
Enjoyed ! have you ever thought about bending a circle of say a 3/16 or 5/32 copper wire around the barrel where you have the brass plates in the four jaw contacting barrel so it would pivot easier ,seems the flat brass would tend to bind when dialing with the spider?
Yes, I have tried the "ring" method. Don't like it because the barrel shifts out of alignment too easily due to not enough surface area contact. The shims I use are soft brass and plenty narrow enough to allow sufficient pivoting of the barrel shank. I show in detail in future videos coming soon! Thank you for watching and for the support!!
Whats that crazy annoying background sound? Its horrble bro! Gotta fix that
Definitely bad.
Hahaha I've never gotten dizzy by watching a gunsmithing video before!!😊😊😊

Great video! I would like to see you do a full accurizing job on a savage!
I have one coming soon, actually! Thank you for watching!!
@ I may be getting you to accurize a model 12 BVSS for me in the near future! How do you feel about their “floating” bolt head?
@@stricklyreloading8494 Can do! The floating bolt head is good for many reasons: already good contact to internal abutments in the receiver and can change out easily for cartridge conversion!
Does the floating bolt head make it tricky when trying to true the back sides of the lugs on the bolt?
@@stricklyreloading8494 I don't even bother. Every one I have checked are contacting 85% or better already.
Nice work man. Is it possible to flute Weatherby Mark V that have their existing original old school original straight fluting to newer style spiral fluting?
That would be pretty complex and difficult to do cleanly. One would have to cover up or fill the existing flutes by filler welding or sleeving the entire bolt body, and then re--cut them with a rotating axis milling machine or CNC.
I don't understand why you added a sleeve? Also, what adhesive did you use? I'm surprised it withstood a cutting operation.
watch the entire video and pay attention. the sleeves have a very beneficial purpose and is explained in depth here. permanent bonding of the sleeve is revealed in another video in our library. yes, strong enough to withstand machining and normal use. never had one pop off. thanks for watching!
@AccurateRiflesandRestorations which video?
My Savage competition rifles started off at Cabela 12FV's after rebates I had $200 into each one. $175 to have Sharp Shooter Supply blue print and re-time each one. You have your choice of pre-fits from quality manufactures. My F-open has a Brux MTU profile finished at 29.5 inches in 6.5CM. My TR is in 308 but if when I am not competing in TR I have a 6CM barrel I throw on for F Open for midrange courses I have 3 different barrels all MTU profile one is 3 grove 1:7.7, one is 5R grove 1:7.5 and one is 6 grove 1:7 all are 28" in length and SS. All of them started as blanks that my local gunsmith 3 hours each way setup for that rifle. He too wanted to make them with a shoulder but I can not change those in the hotel room with one barrel nut wrench, lightweight action wrench and a go/no-go guage. I can fit all of those tools in a tiny little bag like kids use at track meets to put their spikes "special shoes with spikes" in. My third Savage is for varmints and long range plinking and I have 308Win, 6.5CM, 6.5x47L, 6x47L, 243Win barrels for. I wanted to do 6BR but I hear it is tricky to get it to feed from Savage blind box magazine so I passed on it! I have considered getting a Savage long action so I can have a switch barrel for long action cartridges as well. I can change a barrel on my Savages in under 5 minutes. Getting the factory barrel off is a chore but after that if you do not over tighten the nut and use a good synthetic grease it is easy to change them out with out a barrel vice. Now when I have a Savage blueprinted I use a precision ground replacment recoil lug and I have the stock nut checked for concentricity and the face trued up. If it the face can not be trued up or the nut is not concentric including the threads I purchase an after market nut. Anyone that puchases a Savage 110 or it's dervivitives that is not taking advantage of it's ability to switch barrel or to rebarrel quickly and easily for competition is silly. The only reason to purchase a Savage action and use it in competition is down to the barrel nut and the ease of switching barrels! take away that from the Savage and you might as well purchase something of superior design, materials and build quality!
I have 8 different Pre-Fits for 3 Savage Rifles. One is F-Open rifle, one is F-T/R and one is a varmint rig. I would never want a shoulder on any of my Savages because I sofetimes need to pull a barrel for competition and install another one. Where I live it is often a 3-4 hour drive to find a real gunsmith and they are as busy as a one leged man in an a$$ kicking contest! I get 600 to 1200 rounds of accurate barrel life in my F rifles it is not like I am shooting P-Dogs and can afford to have a group open up during the season. Add in load development and I would need to be a rich man with my own private gunsmith to have to deal with shouldered barrel installations! If anything I want all of my competition guns to be able to use pre-fits with a barrel nut even if they are not Savages. Now if it is a hunting rifle than sure give me a shouldered barrel they look much nicer and I am not going to wear out my Elk rifle in my life time hunting even though it is a magnum. I am not putting 20 round strings through my Elk rifle when conditions are steady. If I had you blue print a rifle for me for competition even if I wanted a barrel nut I would expect you to do your normal standard of precision just because Remington, Savage, Ruger, Winnchester etc... can not be troubled to be precise does not mean that the design is worthless. Anyone with eye's to see can look at a Savage and see that every detail of it's design is about reducing production cost, waste and time to manufacture. The amazing thing is that they can be made to shoot and shoot very well in spite of the terrible compromized design and poor execution of said design! If I was going to purchase a new custom action specifcly for competition I would only select a custom action that had the option of using either Savage or Remington Pre-Fit's! On the other hand I am not going to send a Surplus Miltary Mauser to you and want it setup to use Pre-Fits. I think some nuance is in order on the barrel nut. Shame on Savage for doing such a poor job building and assembling their rifles!
Youve earned my future business and im sure many others with this in depth video. Well done
We appreciate that very much! Looking forward to it!

Use a fixture that grabs the front receiver ring only. Your putting deflection in the receiver with that set up trust me. In all Reality it’s not worth messing with Remington’s now days with what’s offered out there.
Great work, I would recommend your company.
Thank you very much for watching the video and engaging the channel! We truly appreciate your support and endorsement!
Amazing workmanship. Thanks for the detailed explanation on what it takes to build to true precision. I'm looking forward to securing your build services.
Thank you very much for watching the video and engaging the channel! We truly appreciate your support and endorsement!!
Too much work. I just bought Sako rifles and it comes sorted and incredibly accurate guaranteed. People buy cheaper rifles then spend fortunes on them to get them close to a Sako of the shelve. Guess its a hobby for them.
Sako rifles are nice. Still a robot/cnc mass produced consumer grade product that can be improved! I'm rebuilding one now (75) and will upload my improvements of it to the channel when it's done. Hail Finland!!
The issue is that Zermatt origin is 900. There is no way u can buy an action and true it for that money. I do think this is still important knowledge for a gunsmith to know.
sure can! Howa 1500 can be had for 400 ish. Remington 700 used is about the same. I won't publicly post my rates, but I still can get you a superior product for less! 🙃
Next time I'm up in Casper I want to come visit. I went to Gritters class earlier this year and received my ffl a few months ago.
This is an odd question on a bolt action blueprinting video. But, can an AR10 action be blueprinted?
I've heard it can be done, but don't really work on those scary black assault-style rifles. 🤣
Great video! Can you make a video about bolt timing and primary extraction? I was told that the bolt timing on my blueprinted Rem 700 is off, and it is affecting the primary extraction. I don't know much about it, and I would love to learn more about it.
good suggestion! I'll consider it for sure! For your situation - does the bolt extract a fired case consistently? If so, don't worry about it. If not, it can be remedied. People get wrapped up in technical things that may or may not affect real world situations. It's simply and inclined plane. Unless you're running super hot loads and sticking cases you should be alright. 🤠
@AccurateRiflesandRestorations The short answer is that it doesn't extract consistently. I need to do some more testing to confirm what is going on. I developed 2 different loads, and one worked great but the other didn't. The rifle is chambered in a tight 7mm Rem Mag match chamber. After some initial testing, I think I'm simply over pressure with the one load. I have 5 rounds that are 2 grs under what I'm currently loading, and I need to fire them and see if I'm still having extraction issues. No other pressure signs other than tough extraction.
I like to true my actions by buying a sako.
🤣👌
Tedious work man. Thanks for sharing. Bookmarked your website. 🤙
Much appreciated! Thank you for watching the video and engaging the channel!!
Good video but what kind of tolerance can your lathe hold
7
Just buy a BAT or Borden..................
How are they in 💩 conditions like ice arctic and extreme cold and dust?
those are definitely excellent options if one has the budget for it! no need for blueprinting on those!
I like Greg Tannel. I have a pre 64 model 70 that was rebarreled to 338wm with a Gretan barrel. They may have even done the work. That rifle shoots sub 1/2 moa 5 shout groups. Not bad for a lightweight 338wm..
Greg is a living legend!
Geoff, do you consider "trueing" an action as a different process than blueprinting an action? I do the same process you do to "true" an action. A full on blueprint for me would be everything you covered plus bushing the firing pin, mini-M-16 extractor, external bolt release and primary extraction with new bolt handle + bolt knob. At that point a new Zermatt, Stiller, Bat, etc. is a less expensive with all bells and whistles is the way to go. Your thoughts? Also, im finding a custom bolt from PTG or Eric Kortina for 700's fitted to the receiver internal dimensions is time saving and a value.
Hi John! uh... yes...🤣 When I was new, the term "blueprinting" confused me. Blueprints are for houses. Then words such as "accurizing" and "truing" got thrown in, which made more sense in our world. interchangeable words for pretty much the same thing... IMO - blueprinting (better put = truing) is physically qualifying and re-machining the critical surfaces of the action to new dimensions that can be called out on a spec sheet for barrel work (like a technical drawing with dimensions, tolerances, etc.), while accurizing comprises the entire "package" including lapping of lugs, machining the barrel concentric and square to the chamber high side up, accuracy crowns, bedding of stock, optics mounts, etc... all the little things incrementally adding up to improve accuracy. To me - things like extractor, bolt release, bold handle/knob, bushing/turning FP upgrades do not contribute to accuracy improvements (though they are very nice upgrades, some customers simply do not want these things). As I stated in the video, if one can afford a "custom/boutique/expensive" action, go for it! This blueprinting stuff is more suited for the guy that already owns one of these kind of actions and wants to hot rod it, or a guy that has a smaller budget, but still wants to compete with the rich guys. I still feel custom work tailored to one's own specific action is the best method over just buying stuff blindly manufactured by a robot (CNC) that still has more inherit slop than what can be tailored by a human being such as you or me can provide to the customer. Robots have their place, making cars and airplanes. They don't belong in the precision rifle arena where the human touch is far superior and has way more attention to detail than any robot can provide! Again, just my opinions. I truly appreciate your support on here! Happy smithing comrade! 🤠
On a Remington style action does the ejector not push the cartridge out of alignment in the chamber ?, great video btw !
The amount of misalignment would be dictated by the clearance around the brass and the chamber walls. This may be one of the reasons that fireformed brass seems to shoot more accurately. Match chambers also reduce the amount of "wiggle room". Most people looking for peak accuracy bump the shoulders on the brass back 0.002" or less so the brass can only be tilted an extremely small amount before it would be contacting the chamber face. If the tolerances are tight then when the brass is fully inserted with the bolt closed the base of the case is held flat against the bolt face with the ejector fully compressed and there's very little effect from the ejector. That being said a lot of benchrest shooters will either remove the spring or reduce the spring tension.
@@MMBRM Its a weak point in the design, makes the Mauser action look better for accuracy
@@paullavallee1631 Yes, Ideally you would want the all the forces to be balanced. I'm not sure if it will make any significant difference. Most premium custom actions use the same configuration and I would hope they tested it. I haven't actually done accuracy testing with/without the ejector in my borden actions(I remove the springs). I might shoot a few dozen in each configuration to see if there's a measurable difference.
@@MMBRM interesting experiment, good luck sir
There are modern actions, such as the American Rifle Company "Coup De Grace", "Mausingfield", etc. that have the passive mechanical ejector system independent of the bolt! (Which we happen to stock here at AR&R!)
i would like to hear the sleeve adhesive and more detail on how you elipticalize (or is it elipticate) the new shim , the shim material... great video
research Borden bumps.
yes, pretty much same concept
Have you ever blueprinted a Ruger 77 ?
not yet. Most of 'em have that annoying investment cast trigger hanger thing that obstructs the jig in which it is installed for the truing cuts. If I get enough demand, I could absolutely make a large enough jig for those jobs... interested?? 🤠🤔🙃
That will never completely be centered With that tape’ brass shims are ok but if you did a video without the tape you quickly see Would be off-center
How much do you charge? I got a couple m70 winchester I want this done too.

Takes you weeks to build a rifle. Takes Savage 20 minutes. Apples to apples. Give them weeks to build a rifle they’ll smoke anything you can mastermind. Just sayin. Savage makes a damn accurate factory mass produced rifle. Fact
😂
Monkeys at the factory? Really?
Decided to pick myself up one after your last review. My local ffl has a ton of 307 action in their inventory but no one was picking them up for some reasons. Went with a long action and standard bolt face. Decided on 280ai be my caliber of choice with 22” preferred carbon barrel & agcomposite stock. It’s gonna be my new all purpose hunting rifle.
That outta be a fine rig!
Great shooter ,,love the whole rig except I would prefer the scope to have parrelex adjustments on the side ,,it’s because of my old eyes ,,I need every adjustment I can get lol ,,ok just for the record,,here is why I haven’t bought a new rifle lately,,, I can’t quite figure out which caliber the ammo manufacturers are going to go way up on next. On tikka they only offer rifles in 14 and a quarter inch pull ,,way too long for warm clothes,,I would never buy one of those Caliber choices ,,the best calibers have been left out of most companies offerings like 338 federal has more energy ft pounds at two hundred yards than a 65 creedmoor has at the muzzle and the ammo cost about the same price ,,can’t figure out the public perception that less is better. Seven O 8 is a great joy to load and shoot but what would be wrong with the other great one the 280 Remington,,does it hurt their soles to admit that something old can be great in these days and times. One more gripe before I shut up ,,I have several fairly new rifles that no matter what I do to them ,,I can not get the trigger where I want it ,,,if the new 307 can fix all these problems, I think I might just buy one.
Thank you very much for watching the video and for engaging the channel! This action and pretty much any Remington 700 clone will accept any aftermarket trigger you desire, so you have a lot of options! Let us know if you're interested in something when you're ready.
Do they offer that action in left hand long?
I believe so, but it may be a special order deal...
They should be happy with that! Even though I didn't see any walnut, on that rifle, it's still an awfully nice looking and performing shooter!
Very nice rig, will provide client with years of great service I'm sure, nice work
Another great video sir! How do we get in touch with you for any work?

left hand bolt?
@7:40 - I am offended by that comment. 🙂 But am used to lesser, left brained people not understanding the immense benefits of shooting left handed.
ooops! how'd that get past editing🤔...? 🤣
this has been 1 or Remingtons weak points for years, along with their triggers. Why havent they redesigned it years ago? same reason they stayed with the same trigger.
maybe so gunsmiths like me can earn a living 😁
I never realized the Remington had such a mickey mouse extractor,, great upgrade and well done!
To be fair - I've never seen one fail under normal circumstances. But, this upgrade is definitely superior! Thank you very much for watching and for engaging the channel!!
@@AccurateRiflesandRestorations My Bergara Remington clone has a Sako style extractor, not quite as beefy as the M16 style,,
