Remington 700 j-Lock - undesirable redundant safety to AVOID, and how to fix/replace it!
Doing a great job here. I agree with squaring the receiver lugs because the floating bolt head needs to align on them. The float tends to give you full contact but if the lugs aren’t square the bolt head won’t be square either. I know you know this just commenting so others will know. Great quality workmanship!
Howa triggers are absolute garbage!!!
Do you sell your shirts? I went on your website last night and didn't see "merch" anywhere.
We've actually been considering printing up some for sale. What size and colour would you like?
@@AccurateRiflesandRestorations XL and that blue you were wearing is perfect
Damn good looking bolt handle!
The music is great for creating a masterpiece bolt handle!
if you don't want at nut i will give it a very loving home
Jeff , can't argue one bit that cosmetics are better with no barrel nut But if action , nut , and barrel are square and true , won't both setups shoot the same?
HSLD=High Speed Low Drag... A commonly used term when you are in the military. I learned it in the Army.
I made a threaded mandrel that has a section behind the threads that butt into the lug abutments (with a trepanned o-ring groove feature on the face, just to preload the threads a little) and a turned area behind about 4" long. That way i can dial the action in relation to the threads so prefits can still remain on the table in the future(the mandrel is also useful truing up barrel nuts). Every one ive dialed in this way, the lug seats were also running true. They must cut the lug seats and threads in the same setup at the factory...not sure. But it is repeatable and the floating bolt head helps with some misalignment as well. But after its all said and done i have several Savages, 1 has been timed and trued by SSS, another 2 trued using my method and 2 others that just had barrel changes and they all shoot equally well out to 800.
Gotta admit man, it would be hard to go with an unknown smith after watching one brave enough to film and post their work. Im looking forward to working with you on my 22 Creedmoor build.
Same lathe as mine from MSC. Great lathe good price. Kinda surprised you didn't include the DRO upgrade.
"Center axis of existence".....…perfect comment.
Gotta love last word indicators.
Do u have a throating reamer in.277?
Just wondering why not just put the action in the lathe without the jig wouldn’t that take out an unnecessary variable?
thank you man , I'm right here in my learning curve
we need a tail stock prealignment aligner tool !!!
Great video. Thank you
Glad you liked it! Thank you for watching and for engaging the channel!
I've wondered why Savage won't bring back the Model 99. I guess those receiver threads answered that question.
This was awesome.
Clever way you staked the breach to mil out for the extractor claw.
Wish I would have seen your videos before I got rid of my lathe.
To me that looks like a hell of a lot of machining just for an improved extractor. Great video to watch, thanks.
It is! But, that's my job! Thank you for watching and for engaging the channel!!
Did I miss the twist rate on that Shilen 7mm-08 barrel? See that you bought a blank barrel and threaded it yourself.
Just listened to it again and caught the 1-9 twist you stated. Thanks for the video!
there ya go! thank you for watching (paying attention!) and for engaging the channel, mate!
It’s just you. The barrel nut is not my biggest issue with a Savage. Look at the way they build their bolts. There’s some good things there and some I think are just atrocious, but over all everything work together pretty well. Not even close to the quality of my 1952 Winchester Model 70 but not even close to the cost either. Both poke nice “clean” holes in things.
I would never get rede of my barrel nut because i can change the calber ant time i want and don't have to pay a gun smith 350 to 550
Phenomenal actions. My only complaint is the lack of support for their older actions. I bought several of these at the intro price. At the current price, it's still very underrated.
Nice but why does that barrel look so thick and heavy 😮
Not as heavy as you might think. It's short and has a .400 bore.
Very nice work. Thanks for taking us along!! Have a great day everyone.
Great Video Geoff, Haters will hate and they know what they can do. 🤣🤣🤣 lol. I love it. Those people are annoying, aren't they. Great project great video. 👍
Indeed! It's always fun to laugh at the haters (Karens come forth!). Thank you for watching and engaging the channel Glenn! Loving your content as well and keep it up old friend!
I really enjoy these in-depth, multiple video series!
Thank you! Revisiting this format and this series will be higher quality due to the new camera.
It’s not that serious! Who cares what anyone thinks .
Please just show how far the "blueprinting" is off. Your banter does not mean much at this point.
stay tuned. the entire rebuild is forthcoming and everything will be revealed in future episodes as well as groups on paper (and they're AMAZING!!).
I be-leave a little more attitude might help, LOL!
Indeed! We are devoted and passionate about our craft. Keep in mind this is "Tongue in cheek" overly dramatic content for all of us to enjoy. Sit back and enjoy the show!
@@AccurateRiflesandRestorations Bingo!
@@AccurateRiflesandRestorations If anybody can't figure out your presentation then, well, they should knock back a double dose of Midol and chill out.😁
Rifle basics makes drop in triggers for the savage actoins. Have 2 and they really work well. Feels a bit flimsy but , it works.
Yes! This rebuild is actually ending up with one of the Rifle Basix triggers. Stay tuned for that episode in this series! Thank you for watching and for engaging the channel!
@AccurateRiflesandRestorations I have to thank you. It's a very entertaining and informative channel. God bless you and your family.
Usually I like your content but found this one obnoxious and annoying. I am not a savage die hard but I do own a few. I also have Remingtons and customs. As far as shooting out of the box I would put savage among any mass produced factory rifle. From my experience I have not seen any proof that the barrel nut takes away from accuracy. They can be blueprinted but because they have the floating bolt head, sleeving the bolt will have a negligible effect if any opposed to a Remington where it needs to be done to keep the bolt face perpendicular to the bolt. Seriously though, you are going to lose viewers by being so thin skinned. Stick to the technical aspects and disagree with your haters with data or an educated opinion without mocking them.
We appreciate your feedback, but please understand this is "Tongue in cheek" overly dramatic content for all of us to enjoy. The sarcasm should be evident. I assure you it's purely for entertainment. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show! This is just the beginning of a multi part series. Thank you for watching and for engaging the channel!
@ I appreciate you being cool even after my criticism! I will continue to watch your videos. Great content man.

@AccurateRiflesandRestorations well your to far away to drive to right now maybe in a year or two I can come out there I will save your work email
Savage triggers are horrible !!!! Rifle basix or Jard are the old Sharp shooters supply triggers are the way to go.
Yes, this one's getting a Rifle Basix in a future episode!
I picked up a Jard for my axis and I love it!
@@jamieparker7082 They actually aren’t bad for a factory trigger. Some people like the safety factor that you get with them. For hunting they aren’t bad. That being said I wish there were more options for aftermarket triggers or they were Remington trigger compatible.
Btw I’m talking about the accutrigger not the others on some of the cheaper models.
The best Savage to get is this one, 90% of the parts replaced :)
From now on I'm referring to my mate's rifles as Salvages. I'm sure he'll see the humour in the situation.
I have a Savage Scout pre safety trigger. It sits in the closet. First round goes right where you aim it. Second, close to the first. Third, 4” away from first 2, with no pattern. Drives me crazy. The only way I could make it somewhat accurate was to hand load light powder loads. Thinking about doing this very thing to it.
We can straighten out the action and install a premium barrel. That would certainly improve your situation. send us an email if you're interested: info@accurateriflesandrestorations.com and thanks for watching!!
@ I may just do that.
I was expecting you to bush the firing pin hole, and then reduce the diameter of the firing pin itself. Reason I say that is BOTH Howa's that I own have WAY oversize firing pins (.078"), and massive pin holes in the bolt face. MANY people complaining about cratering primers with factory ammo in the Howa's.. It's a known issue. I'm using small rifle primers and a factory gun, with factory ammo, it's on the verge of rupturing primers. Very good information. You are really helping me to understand the principles of the work that you do. I respect the attention to detail that you are covering here. If I were to attempt accurizing my Howa bolt action-and I used my lathe and a single point cutter to straighten up the threaded section on the action-is it then mandatory that I install a new barrel cut to match the now new dimensions of the threaded action? I assume the answer is yes, but I think you are the person that would know for certain.
An easier remedy for cratering and blowing out primers is stop loading so hot. More velocity does not equal better accuracy. If the customer requested it, we would have done it, but he is a "factory ammo" guy and doesn't load to obscene pressures. Last question: Yes
@@AccurateRiflesandRestorations My primer issue is with FACTORY loaded-store bought-rounds. Many people experiencing the same thing with the Howas. I'm not sure if they are shooting reloads, or factory ammo though.. Mine is all store bought ammo.
I have 2 number 1's . 300 Win Mag 24" bull barrel and a 7x57 light sporter. My 300 shoots a 3/4" at 350 yards.
wow, that's really good for a No 1! Most guys don't get nearly that good of accuracy without mods!
So what's the point of the muzzle break? Recoil is not that bad. And no reason to worry about muzzle rise affecting follow up shots.
Because that's what our customer requested.
Finally, another gunsmith that throws the ash and trash savage barrel nut in the garbage. I charge double to work on Salvages. not misspelled
Just uploaded episode 1 on SALVAGING another savage with a proper shouldered Brux Barrel and complete blueprint/rebuild. Premiering tomorrow morning. Thanks for your support, brother!
I had a Ruger #1, It was not at all accurate or consistent. I tried all sorts of ammo and loads (although I'm not a handloader). 30.06. Most loads shot about 3 MOA (100 yards, 3") Some were worse, weirdly including federal premium nosler ballistic tips, which I'd found to be outstanding in a Remington 700. That was like 5 MOA Yuck!. none were better. Cheap surplus ball shot as well as anything. I bought the rifle brand new, and I did expect a high level of accuracy. Total disappointment, the only time a Ruger ever disappointed me. My American Ranch in 350m Legend, cheap as it was, shoots 1/2-3/4' groups at 100 yards. Sold it after a couple years of trying.
That re-build, however, looks about right. Well done.
Yes, the No 1 looks and feels great, but poor design choices caused accuracy issues. The forend hanger mod improves things.
Holy tourque, I would never go that high with a flush fit, but everyone had their own ways.
😮what do pri.mers lookIke after fired
...normal...?
Nice to see something other than Rem700 clones. I learn a lot from these. Thanks!
