Shelling, beachcombing, shell hunting, finding shells on the beach, whatever you want to call it, is a hobby for many people. This channel is all about that! Here you will see beachcombing videos from mainly the southeastern United States, occasionally elsewhere. You will also see shell identification guides, shell haul videos, and more!

Mediterranean Shell Haul From Spain!
Here are a bunch of shells I found along the beaches in Spain/France from a trip long ago (before I ever started my YT channel). It features a bunch of really unique species I've never seen in the US, even a small Abalone shell! I also found a bunch of scallops, coquinas, tellins, limpets, arks, and many other species. Some similar to what I've seen in the US, yet are distinct species, which is really cool. Subscribe to stay up to date on future videos!

This video is parts one and two combined into one from my most recent beach walk. A lot of you requested longer videos, and while I can't find more shells to make videos longer, I figured I would combine this two part walk into one since it was so memorable.

Spectacular Low Tide Beachcombing at Holden Beach!

This outing turned out to be the best I've had at Holden Beach! It was so good I had to split it into two parts, and this is part one. Stay tuned for part two, in which I find some really spectacular rare shells! Both parts were filmed in winter, which certainly helped wash up so many shells.

The internet has been talking about this beach a lot in the past few years. Today I'm heading out in the middle of the day to find out if you can still find shells without getting up before sunrise. This is part one of this two part mini series, as I did not want to cram everything into just one (and spoiler, there were a ton of shells). Stay tuned for part two, which will feature a super rare ...

Go ahead with Flatty!!!
I love your baby abalone!! Who new! Thank you for sharing your Soain treasure!!!! I have a piece of a cockle my daughter found when she went there she was sad it was all she could find bit I think it's precious too!
That is a big ole black tooth...🎉🎉
Thank you for showing your new finds. What kind of shells are those big daisy shells 😂. Can't wait for your next video.
all of them are interesting and beautiful, but that carpet clam is stunning!
Thank you so much! It's definitely one of my favorites, and to find both valves intact was super cool :)
Very nice! I sometimes have a hard time with calicos and bay scallops. If I were color blind I’d be in trouble 😅
Thank you so much! They can be tricky for sure, for me even some of the larger Rough scallops and younger Bay scallops when they're worn look so similar. Thanks for stopping by!
love your content!
Thank you so much!
Great video! I am a once a year sheller (normally landlocked). I have found two flats about the size of a quarter in the Panhandle area. Now I know they are Ravenel’s 😊
That's awesome! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
Love your content! 🐚I often view them twice because the first time I’m reading and the next time I’m focused on the shells. The sound of the waves is soothing and a nice change! Thank you for sharing! ☺
Thank you so much for the feedback! :)
🐞Are both sides of a bi-valve the same color and markings? Thanks. 🐞
@@pearlanderson1913 It really depends on the species. Sometimes they're the same and sometimes there's some variation. It's kind of complicated, but environmental conditions are often a contributor to this. Thanks for watching! :)
put the live critters in the waterrrrrr
Am very impressed ☺️ The one collection I use to watch was so unorganized I would not have even shown it were I the person !Bravo tho your collection is wonderful 👍
Thank you so much for watching!
I wonder if it was at low tide when these seashells were found?
It has been amazing to watch you gather these.. it would be fabulous to find them.. sadly being in So Cali it would be a trek to get there....
Thank you so much for watching :)
We have been to Holden twice since the sea biscuits could be found in large numbers. A fossil expert in the Carolina Seashellers page said not to put them in vinegar or muriatic acid as that could cause cracking down the road. He said to soak them in distilled water changing the water every couple of days for 30 days in order to let the salt leach out of them. Each time you change water you can rub 2 sea biscuits together to get off the cement looking stuff. On my ones with the most stuff on them, I used a dremel after the 30 day soak. (I am not sure if that was a good idea or not.)
Thank you for watching and your feedback! My thinking with acid/vinegar was just quick dips (as opposed to bleach baths) could help getting the outermost layer of crust off, and overnight bleach to get everything else. I'm by no means an expert but it makes sense it could damage them too. I'm curious what they would all look side by side with the different methods. Happy shelling!
I love how you can't put the lions s paws down 😂😂 I'd be sooo excited having a day like that
It was really amazing, and you're so right! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching :)
Thanks for sharing! 😊
Thank you!
Your shell bag must’ve weighed 50 pounds. Amazing thanks for taking me along.
Totally did! It even filled my entire backpack plus the shell bag! Thank you for watching! 🙂🐚
I’m definitely planning a beach trip 😍
Awesome!
@ When is the best time of year to go??
@@MiMi-og4wx Wintertime is usually quite good (though you can find stuff all year round)
Wow!!!!! That is a shelling walk for the books ❤ Congratulations on finding all your paws!!! You have massive control not to holler at the beach-I’d be so loud hahahaha 😂 Every find was so nice! Long videos, short videos-who cares.❤ It takes a lot of time and effort to produce content that most people overlook and thank you for doing so! Happy Shelling!
Thank you so much! It truly was a remarkable day :)
WOW! Incredible! Those giant eastern murexes are absolutely amazing. You were definitely in "shell heaven" today! Thanks for the ride. ❤
I couldn't believe the murexes. It was my best day for those without a doubt. Thank you so much!
That was an amazing video!! Wow at the super finds!! Thanks for sharing with us!
Thank you! :)
How early or late do you shell?
Honestly I go out anytime I can when I'm near the beach, often times before sunrise. Thanks for watching!
Definitely worth a repeat! Thanks for putting those 2 together! What an awesome night/morning!
Thank you so much!
That was great! Was that after a storm. What do you do with all of these shells you find?
This wasn't after any storm which was so odd. I recently did a video showing my shell collection, but in short they go on shelves and in boxes! Thanks for watching :)
🐞Are those sea biscuits fossils or are they actual shells? Thanks. 🐞
Fossils of pre historic urchins, not related to mollusks of any kind. Thank you for watching :)
Literally every time you pull a murex I just want to go through my phone …holy moly I’m so jealous!
It took a lot of effort before I hit a good day, but it definitely payed off :)
Amazing finds. Thank you for bringing us along!
Thank you!
I appreciate your videos whether they are 1 minute or 1 hour. I’m a landlocked sheller waiting on her next fix 😂
I appreciate you watching and commenting! Thank you so much :)
I grew up going to Holden Beach - never saw shells like this but man is that a special place. Thank you for sharing!
That's awesome! Shell situation changes every day, so you never know what you might encounter. Thank you for watching :)
Thanks for your great videos, I love your printed narration so we can hear the ocean! I just came back from a weekend there and though there were no welks or murexes, I found baby ears, olives and a few bittersweets. But the real find was the sea biscuit fossils. With about 12 hours of beach walking, I found 8 perfect ones and a dozen less than perfect. And also 3 fossils of some other shell that looks kind of like a ridged mussel but curves to the side. Thanks for the info on the fossils or I would never have known they have them there!
That's awesome that you were able to go and congrats on all your finds! Those mystery shells could be fossils from the genus Exogyra, they seem to wash up fairly frequently around there. Thank you so much for watching!
Beautiful collection! Congratulations on all your awesome finds! A lot of those shells are on my bucket list! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Thank you so much for watching and commenting :)
Can you tell me what part of Holden Beavh were you on? Thank you 😊
Very helpful video. Would be nice with a before and after tho🤩
Wow!! 🤩
Here tell that it's unlawful to take coral. You might want to check that law out.
What an awesome collection. I wish you would slow down your video so I could read the text and enjoy the shells. So many beauties just need time to absorb all of them 🥰
Thanks for the feedback. I wasn't sure of what the pacing should be considering most people click off if it drags on too long, though I see that if you're super into it, longer is of course better. It's hard to satisfy all in this regard but thank you so much for the comment!
Epic collection ❤😮❤
Thank you!
Is this post hurricane shelling?
There weren't any major storms in the few weeks prior to this!
U have an awesome collection! Love the way u display them! How long did it take to collect them?
Thank you! This is 8 years or so of vacation shelling :)
Wow! Nice collection ❤
Thank you so much!
How long have you been shelling ?!
This is from at least 8 or so years of shelling.
Your collection is amazing!!!! ❤ 🐚 🐚 🐚 🐚
Thank you so much!
Go to abandon Portsmouth island to find shells galore.
Definitely on my bucket list!
@@shellstories You have to find someone to take you there. There is only a ranger station and a small airstrip and the remnants of the old town which is deserted.Hope you get there one day.Good hunting.
If I may ask where in North Carolina did you find your shells?
This is from many different areas up and down the coast during the off season. Thanks for watching!
Nice collection. I have never found a sea biscuit on the beach. Have seen them in stores, but it would be so awesome to find one!
They're very localized, but some beaches are full of them!
I have always wondered how you keep your shells! I've watched so many from swfl and now to watch you collect in Noth Carolina.. I especially love that they don't always have to be perfect! Thank you so much for sharing your impressive treasures!!!!
Thank you so much for watching and commenting! :)
Wow! I love everything in your collection! I'm trying to figure out how to display my own, much smaller collection! Thank you for the ideas!
Thank you so much! :)
Thank you...a truly beautiful display and collection. I watch your videos all the time and love how you travel and take us with you. I did think of a silly thing as I watched amazed but wondering who keeps there dusted. Again, thanks and wonder if you ever meet the people who follow you. I am from Maine and have family in Florida. I couldn't do the walking ass you Sharmon do(I am a young 72 years old but have MS and am in a chair for long distances). We are in Rockland 2 or 3 times a year, and I know you shell the Maine coast. ❣️🦋❣️🐚🐚🐚🐾🐾🌊🪸🥰
