These empty houses should be put into use for the homeless
As I am still a Limerick man at heart even though I am over 20 years moved out of Limerick, I will always look out for and love Limerick. As I am in Loughrea co Galway and wanting to go back to Limerick, could I ask anyone or everyone to help me with this one as I would even be happy to be able to purchase a derelict property for restoring so that I could get my own house to call home rather than renting from greedy landlords. Thanks everyone in advance for any help
Nice to look back and hear the voices of people who passed away my brother pa rip xx
shithole
My mothers people came from the island, so sad to see this way
D’ Island , the Ranch , hi chapprell
Those houses should be done up cause they look perfect if the walls were cracked then they should be knocked
Iam use to the smell of urine and manure
Bone idleness
Most of these houses are knocked or half burnt and trashed now
My lovely cousin Rita may she rest in peace
Regeneration.... went backwards

politations doing nothing for the residents those houses will fall the walls will crack if something's not done i remember the walls of shed on the farm were split in half my father had to hire a man to knock down the shed it was dangerous it could fall on a child
action speaks louder than words the county council are telling the people lies the resident in st mary's park
They've been telling lies from day 1 of "regeneration"
the smell would be pretty bad in the hot weather
It's sad to know that I still live here and that this did help but only for a while Weston is definitely nowhere near as bad as it was but it's not exactly sunny green fields with leprechauns dancing around either because people won't just live their lives properly and contribute to society properly
4 kids but cant even look after herself
So?
You don't know her story so shut up
Stop having kids

OMG POOR PEEEEEPS INBREDS !
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
why are these people not at work ?
Absolute disgrace, where has all that money gone, it hasn't gone on the regeneration scheme. These people have been robbed of their future and their children's futures.
My nan's road, 'Munster' xX
wow how sad looks like crap! Why dont the people get together and fix the area up?
Because they like it that way.
@RegenerationWatch oh right. Any new videos? What's happening with that shell on Crecora Ave? It's there a while now, nice view as you head out Childers Rd.
The houses are privately owned and are red-lined for demolition in the "new" plan. Unfortunately, like a lot of occupied homes that are also targeted for demolition, the Council's "Office of Regeneration" hasn't bothered to contact the owners to negotiate. In June 2011 the Council was warned via email about the threat posed to these houses by a vacant mid-terrace house that had been looted for copper. The Council and the former Regeneration Agency was asked to secure, refurbish and re-let the house. They did nothing and on 19 December 2011 the house was burnt-out, damaging the adjoining homes and forcing the residents out.
Working an a feature-length documentary with a focus on Human Rights featuring all four areas using old (previously unseen) footage and new interviews. Nowhere near finished.
"This is St. Marys Park, you go back to your own place" Cheeky shits, I agree everyone in regeneration areas are in the same boat. F 'um Cathal you offered to help they refused, rather ignorantly. And now look 4 months later KARMA in flood form!
The guy that made that remark was probably annoyed that so many people were hanging around his spot, I thought that some of the residents (that had spoken to me in the past) seemed nervous of him. Most of the protesters that refused to speak to me are not representative of St. Mary's Park residents, some of them had moved years ago but remain as the official community "link" with the Council and regeneration. Most residents in the area were unaware that these people were their reps and we had heard that the protest was actually sparked by a row over how money for local Estate Management was to be divided up; for years these so-called community reps have represented nobody but themselves. The recent floods destroyed many homes and Council and Regeneration officials are probably delighted as many of the homes affected are targeted for demolition in the "new" plan and because of this they have been told that they will not get any assistance refurbishing their homes. I have great sympathy for the residents' of St. Mary's Park and it's only a pity that an independent, representative and mandated residents group hasn't emerged from the area.
It's all the one, she's in jail now
In his 1967 report "Social Dynamite" the Sociologist Liam Ryan referred to the "amused hostility of the better educated classes" when describing the attitudes of others towards the residents of Ballinacurra Weston. Thank you for providing us with an example of this "amused hostility" with your sneering comment; such misinformed perceptions are an integral part of the problem faced by residents.
before you manage to drive through them all your left driving a chasis in your underpants.
looks brill great work by all, keep up the good work, xxxxx love to u all.xx
Thanks Dawkins. I have plenty of footage from Southill and I plan to make a video soon.
The Ballinacurra Weston Residents' Alliance have organised many events like this one, even scooping 1st prize in the 2011 Limerick Community Challenge. There is plenty of goodwill and limited support coming from the Environment section of the Council, but unfortunately not from Regeneration. The house featured in this video was eventually burnt out, forcing the residents on either side to move out because of the damage. It happened under the "watchful eye" of unmonitored CCTV cameras.
and i really feel sorry for the innocent people in the estates that are living in fear all their lives.
hey cathal i think you should organise more tasks like these for young troublemakers and the likes. its a good way to show that they can do something positive when they put their mind to it, rather than out causing destruction. perhaps the council will see the good work ye produce and stick to their word afterall. the way they see it is that regenerating such estates isnt worth it , seeing as they will most likely be burned to the ground like the rest of the houses there.
Great video lads. Its shocking what a failure Regeneration has been in Limerick City.
19:05 "all they were was stuff on your camera you were showing me", the cheeky prick! Your videos are excellent Cathal and if he heeded the "stuff" we wouldn't have half the trouble. The CCTV cameras aren't monitored in Southill either. Is there any chance that you would make a video about Southill and we're being hammered. Keep up the good work and please make a film about whats going on in Southill.
Unbelievable, he wants residents to write to him so they can get involved in the regeneration of there own estate and when they do they are still ignored!!! Fair play to ye...he's full of shit and ye showed him up. Well done.
Good turnout today for the protest, Cllr. Maurice Quinlivan came and marched with us and spoke to residents and we got apologies and a phone-call from Cllr. Cormac Hurley to say he supports us 100%. Hopefully when we do the next one we will have some of our own Southside Councillors stand with us.
I am gob-smacked by this...I hope that more people take the time to watch this video from beginning to end, it really exposes the truth about regeneration. Well done, can't wait for the final cut
Thanks, it's a rough cut, I need to invest in video editing software. The house was burnt out on 1st Sept 2012 at 11.40pm, it was vacated and boarded in June- first to go was the led on the roof. Residents did challenge youths throughout the summer as several attempts were made to break into it, but there is only so much residents can do, I live across the road and I wasn't aware there was a fire until it was put out. The house is located 20ft away from one of many unmonitored CCTV camera.
Great video. Thought there wasn't gonna be anymore vids from ye. Real shame about the woman's house at 7:47..how long was she gone until it was burnt? A fine house so it was & over 3000 on the waiting list for a house. The whole fucking thing is blood boiling. Karma will catch up with Mr. Kenny one day for ruining so many lives.
"The Baggot Estate" is a large forested area situated next to two playing fields, the Ballinacurra Road and the Tunnel Road; nobody actually lives there. The area is a public amenity replete with walkways, public exercise equipment and monitored CCTV cameras. At night some youths use the area for bush drinking, which prompted some to call for Garda intervention in the local media. In Weston the cameras aren't monitored, the Gardaí don't respond to calls and "they're having cans into our face".
Where you have generational unemployment and educational disadvantage (we inherit our educational values from our parents) then such people are often referred to as the underclass. Their continued existence is ensured by the parasitic disadvantaged areas industry where €50k+ salaries (funded by the taxpayer) are paid to do-nothing community workers from outside the areas. Also funded by the taxpayer are the didn't-see-it Gardaí and the not-my-department official, now they'd be middleclass.
Then what class are people who have never worked, never payed tax and get everything for free and are supposedly disadvantaged?
