- On 6th September 2012, the Ballinacurra Weston Residents' Alliance organised a demonstration to protest and highlight the on-going degeneration of their estate. Filmed between May - September 2012, this video documents the impact of "regeneration" has on the area - depopulation and boarding up of houses, which are systematically looted for copper used for drug/drink parties and eventually burnt-out.

I am gob-smacked by this...I hope that more people take the time to watch this video from beginning to end, it really exposes the truth about regeneration. Well done, can't wait for the final cut
In his 1967 report "Social Dynamite" the Sociologist Liam Ryan referred to the "amused hostility of the better educated classes" when describing the attitudes of others towards the residents of Ballinacurra Weston.
Thank you for providing us with an example of this "amused hostility" with your sneering comment; such misinformed perceptions are an integral part of the problem faced by residents.
Good turnout today for the protest, Cllr. Maurice Quinlivan came and marched with us and spoke to residents and we got apologies and a phone-call from Cllr. Cormac Hurley to say he supports us 100%. Hopefully when we do the next one we will have some of our own Southside Councillors stand with us.

Absolute disgrace, where has all that money gone, it hasn't gone on the regeneration scheme. These people have been robbed of their future and their children's futures.

The house was burnt out on 1st Sept 2012 at 11.40pm, it was vacated and boarded in June- first to go was the led on the roof. Residents did challenge youths throughout the summer as several attempts were made to break into it, but there is only so much residents can do, I live across the road and I wasn't aware there was a fire until it was put out.
The house is located 20ft away from one of many unmonitored CCTV camera.
Great video. Thought there wasn't gonna be anymore vids from ye. Real shame about the woman's house at 7:47..how long was she gone until it was burnt? A fine house so it was & over 3000 on the waiting list for a house. The whole fucking thing is blood boiling. Karma will catch up with Mr. Kenny one day for ruining so many lives.
