THE OUTFIELD: 1985 - 1992: The Major Label Albums w/Eric Hansen
THE OUTFIELD: 1985 - 1992: The Major Label Albums w/Eric Hansen I hope you enjoy it!
The Outfield is a British rock band formed in 1984, best known for their hit singles "Your Love" and "All the Love in the World."
Formation: The band was founded by Tony Lewis, a Welsh singer, and John Spinks, an English guitarist. They were later joined by Alan Jackman on drums.
Early Success: Their debut album, "Play Deep" (1985), became a major success, largely due to the single "Your Love," which reached No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. This song, with its iconic baseball-themed video, helped define the band's image.
Subsequent Albums: Following the success of their debut, they released several more albums including "Bangin'" (1987), "Voices of Babylon" (1989), and "Diamond Days" (1990). However, none of these albums achieved the commercial success of "Play Deep."
Style: The Outfield's music is characterized by its catchy melodies, strong pop-rock influences, and Lewis's distinctive voice. Their songs often feature sports metaphors and imagery, reflecting Tony Lewis's passion for baseball.
Later Years: The band experienced various lineup changes over the years with Tony Lewis being the consistent member. They continued to tour and record sporadically, though with less commercial impact.
Legacy: While their fame peaked in the late 1980s, The Outfield remains a favorite on classic rock radio and at live venues, especially with fans who appreciate their place in pop-rock history. Their music continues to be featured in various media, including movies and commercials, keeping their legacy alive.
The Outfield's blend of rock with pop sensibilities and their memorable hits have secured them a niche in the annals of 80s rock music.

Thanks Grant. You probably don’t remember but I first asked you for this in about February of last year. You did reply straight away and it took you a while to get to it but you eventually kept your word. I wouldn’t have asked if I didn’t think they were so great. Because I know how much good music there is out there. The rest of their discography is good too. 1. Play Deep 2. Rockeye 3. Voices Of Babylon 4. Bangin’ 5. Diamond Days
Sarzo joined Blizzard Of Ozz, Quiet Riot, WhiteSnake , right as each band hit it big.
The only post 80s Def Leppard album I enjoyed was Euphoria which had strong tracks like Demolition Man + Promises.. Precisely what the other post 87 releases lacked..5 strong albums in 46 years isn't that impressive.
That Zon album cover is killer.
Face Dancer is a "new" discovery for me; two thumbs up on this selection. I guess another record to add to the ever growing shopping list.
Great shows. Really enjoy these listening parties, unfortunately, missed it again. Between the two shows, I discovered Face Dancer and Artful Dodger; Zon is great as well and first time listening to Mark Farner solo material.
I think Face Dancers' About Face is a better album...Artful Dodger's first two are VERY solid while the last two aren't quite as good - but still 3 or 4 good tracks on each...Zon has I'm Worried About The Boys from 1980 - not as good as this one but not bad...That live Farner solo album Rock 'n Roll Soul: Live, August 20, 1989 is really good
John Amos from Good Times,Coming To America,Roots also passed away...The cracks developed when they killed off his character James Evans.Mr.Roboto replaced him lol
The power has been out for 5 days here in VA,so I'll have to watch the episode once it's restored.
Thanks grant n Eric love the outfield n got lucky to have seen them twice in concert
In 1990 Alan Jackman was fighting Cancer and beat it. Great Drummer! There are other albums worth talking about. Any Time Now is awesome but hard to find and spendy, worth getting it. Playing the Field is a compilation album, and Best of The Outfield is another compilation with a couple of new tracks.
Don't blame CHER for Gregg Allman's shortcomings. She has always been an awesome human being. According to Wikipedia, her awesomeness started in grade school, when she did a production of the musical Oklahoma for her classmates and teacher. She's also never had any issues with drugs, alcohol, or arrogant social attitudes. I'm sure she only wanted to help Gregg with the help that he obviously needed. She may well have been the link that got him through his own demise. Sorry, but the way you all scoffed at her really rubbed me the wrong way. By the way, she wanted to go in the hard rock direction in the early 70's, but Sonny didn't want to. Just sayin'... she was/is super-cool and a genuinely good person too.
And a really good actress as well.
Pete Rose was banned for life, so now that he’s dead, he can get into the hall of fame!
Just listened to rockeye Grant! Great album , it's definitely number 2 after the first album . Thanks for the info 👍
I was at that Stadium show in cleveland in 77 when he was touring Comes Alive. The bands that day were Derringer, J Geils, bob seger and Frampton. All the bands who played before him were better that day. Sorry , frampton
Dating Cher wasnt a bad idea by allman . Making an album with her was the bad idea.
Hated the Reds and Rose should never ever be in the HOF. U bet baseball u dont get in. Sorry , pete
Missed this show , like the outfield quite a bit . Thanks Grant 👌
Never heard DC Talk before, will check it out thanks John. Grant great show as always
I saw them live a few summers ago on the beach in Asbury Park, NJ . They were great !!!
Cool show, you groovy cats! Who’s talkin’ ‘bout The Outfield? Only Grant and Eric. Nice. A band that sounded so American, that they just had to be British! Undervalued, underrated and overlooked. Thanks for shining a spotlight on some gems 💎 that may have passed some people by. Keep up the groovilicious, nutritious and delicious work, lads. Your pal and mine, ~ Davey Cretin, from Cretin Classics.
Great. One of my favorite bands, thanks! I have all albums by this awesome trio. I have seeing them many times back in the day. My favorite is the debut, but all albums is strong.😁👍
I wasn't into Styx much but the reactions to Kilroy were more like it was hit by a Tsunami than merely cracked. This isn't a myth like the Van Halen keyboard deal or the Squier video lol
huge outfield fan, top five 80s band for me. all these records are perfect, or pretty close to perfect!!
Great presentation. I only have the first one, and Any time now which I like a lot. After watching this I ordered three more at reasonable price. Thanks
Def Leppard is offering a free live concert stream soon. Follow them on UA-cam channel. Def Leppard released a double album Live orchestra acoustic album... Its the worst part of supporting the band and its poop 💩💩...both records, one album...it scores a negative -Zero 🚫
Cygne -x-1 is named from a Black Hole 🕳️ in Space and the Official Founder of the Black Hole was just on Jeopardy with Ken Williams...NASA named it ... he didn't get a choice. I've been turned down about talking about Christian rosk/metal, i can name 400 bands off the top of my head and talk for 4 hours about the scene 🙏😅
I liked that band Gretchen who did the album Mouthful Of Nails and some of the other Christian bands from the early 2000s.Pillar,Switchfoot,etc.
I actually really dug the albums with Richard Sinclair on bass the most. He added a whimsical element, another voice, and most of all funky, ebullient and precise bass parts. Wanna see all that in the next episode!
The opening scene of the movie Tammy, when she is singing along to Your Love is hilarious.
Well you know Ty Cobb bet on games but they didn't want another scandel right after the Blacksox deal. And how many owners are in the HOF bet on their teams??
Soundgarden wrote a song about him on Down 👇 on the upside .. high energy
Always loved this band...still listen to them regularly.
Wow, great job. Love the Outfield 1-Play Deep 2-Bangin 3-Voices Of Babylon 4-Diamond Days 5-Rockeye 6-Extra Innings I know that is a boring ranking because it is in order, just how I see it. Do yourself a favor and listen to a band called The Samples if you have not already. Great job as always.
“Play Deep” is perfect just like Big Country’s “The Crossing” and just like Cutting Crew’s “Broadcast”…top to bottom no skips
I love the outfield. Thanks for this episode
I bought all these albums as new releases. The first album is one of my favourite albums of all time. Bangin it’s not far behind. The cracks definitely started to form on Voices. Albums four and five are forgettable for me.🤘 1. Play deep 2. Bangin 3. Voices 4. Rockeye 5. Diamond days
Great Discussion Guys! 1-"Play Deep" 2-"Bangin"" 3-"Rockeye" 4-"Voices Of Babylon" 5-"Diamond Days"
VH1 played Your Love and Say It Isnt So, but those were about it.
Playlist of the show, minus 1 song i could not find ! music.ua-cam.com/play/PLPWhNsH-dYu9czDsz03CvDcEeg0tarGer.html

Great show as always buddy keep rocking
Damn YT bots...Just added a bunch of Faces music to my library, after the archival Faces At The BBC: Complete BBC Concert & Session Recordings (1970-1973) was just released. Makes it even more painful though to look at Rod's career post 1975. Man his early stuff was good! Starz had their time in the sun - the s/t frim '76 is probably their best along with 1978's Attention Shoppers...Artful Dodger is one of those bands I checked out briefly once & dismissed - this track sounds pretty good/may have to give 'em another try...Steve Miller was HUGE for me/my friends in the mid 70's (before we knew anything about the original blues band). This album & especially Book Of Dreams are personal 70's highlights... Farner has a surprisingly good solo discography (but not really this album IMO): Monumental Funk, s/t, Rock 'n Roll Soul: Live, August 20, 1989...St Paradise - Derek St Holmes - oh yeah! Anything with him on it is at least good. This is a great album...I like that Thorpe track a lot (and back in '79 it got A LOT of airplay in my area) but besides this he really didn't do much else (there was "Theme From Million Dollar Bill")...LA Woman is an all time classic...If I Could Only Remember is a wonderful record, his first solo album. Not a big hit with critics but sold pretty well. With the help of Nash, Jerry Garcia, Neil Young, Jorma, Gregg Rolie, Phil Lesh/Kreutzman/Hart, Jack Casady, Michael Shrieve, Joni Mitchell, David Freiberg/Paul Kantner/Grace Slick. Was there anyone from Topanga Canyon who didn't play on this? "Cortez" is one of my all time fave Young tunes. Great to jam on too. He just released the new Archives Vol. 3 (1976-1987)
Hey Wolf, thanks for the comment. Funny thing is the shows are pretty much intact. They cut the show off when the last song was about over.
@@GrantsRockWarehaus Maybe AI strikes again - wait 'till it gets really 'smart'😒I did read this: "Technically, there's no time limit on a UA-cam live stream. However, UA-cam can only archive live streams up to 12 hours long. So, if you want your stream to be eligible for viewing at a later time or date, 12 hours is the maximum limit". Someone should tell those bots...🤷♂
Yeah! what a start 🍺🤘
Oh yeah!
One of the best Perry-era Journey tracks...Don't Look Back is a really solid followup album, if it weren't for the IMMENSE status of their debut as one of the best ever I think it'd be more highly regarded (the 'Peter Frampton syndrome')...How good is Paul solo? Great one - that One Hand Clapping set is aboslutely fantastic. A Beatles/McCartney fan must own...TDN was a 'hit factory' for about 4 years in the early 70's - a band that shined really bright for a little while (kinda like CCR), picked up chronologically where they left off...About Face is a pretty good record, This World is just OK ("Forever Beach" is a good tune) - "Change" is kinda manic though... This is honestly the only track I really like from Secret Treaties - I prefer BOC's later stuff...Peter Banks' Flash is good music. I think he's a really overlooked ex-member of Yes. Maybe because many Yes fans consider pre-Howe Yes to not be 'real' Yes (I love the first two albums). And also with pre-Yes bands The Syn/Chris Squire & Mabel Greer's Toyshop. The s/t 1972 album is a good one, also In the Can, Out Of Our Hands, In Public, Psychosync & Flash (Feat. Ray Bennett And Colin Carter)...
Missed a lot of this , watching/ listening this morning .
That sucks
it is what it is... just can't go over an hour per show
This is bad-ass! Im gonna start putting these on at work!
Excellent!
LOVE me some Camel- That wonderful jazz influence from the Cantebury scene, but a lot more serious and straightforward and rock-oriented. Mirage and Moonmadness would be my favourites from the earlier years
Not as 'experimental' sonically as some other Canterbury bands (which I like) - they keep things more grounded in melody. Latimer is a really fine player - even though they don't sound alike I always mentally pair him with David Gilmour in terms of the choices both make when choosing what to play (and what not to play)
Nothing like taking up a whole shine for one song.
A Masterpiece! Fullstop! ❤
I will be 100% honest. The Don songs brought me to 38 Special but it is the Donnie songs that has kept me. I actually am a fan of Donnie songs and have a folder set up on my phone for all of the Donnie Van Zant lead vocals just because I enjoy them more
