Why we’re getting Rid of our Composting Toilet on the Boat 😩
In this video I will talk about the reasons why we are getting rid of our C-Head composting toilet and installing a marine head with a holding tank
Get ready for some great laughs at my expense as I talk about the pros and cons (but mainly the cons) of having a composting toilet on your boat!

    @darlajean1045 that’s some experience! How strong were the winds for you? When it came through NC we had 80 mph winds and it almost blew me off the dock here when I went to check our boat with my hubby.

      About 3 miles away from us at a marina they had a top wind speed record at 203mph 😣 I was to busy crying to record the bad stuff lol plus everything was just white with rain around us. thanks for watching!

      Can’t imagine what that sounded like! You would have been blown off the boat if you were out in that! 80-90 was all I could stand.

    I've followed your videos under my other moniker (Fred Flintstone). I've just bought a partially completed Skoota 36 (adapted to be a 40ft boat). It is about 70% completed. It needs a full fit out of electrics, plumbing, the transom needs completing, the propulsion system and navigational stuff. Are the walls and ceilings in your hulls finished fibreglass? My cat is plywood with fibreglass sheathing. I think the original builder was going to line the wall and ceilings with vinyl panels. I'm planning on trying to kit the cat out as an electric boat, using possibly Aquamot Trend 15.0 electric outboards or if I can afford them, the new Epropulsion X20 outboards.

      Thanks for the comment..our whole interior is somewhat faired fiberglass painted with rust oleum topside paint..no additional covering. ..sounds like a fun project…put as many solar panels on it as possible..we are using glass solar panels..we have not found any reasonably priced flexible panels that last more then a few months in tropical sun..wish you the best..Mike

    @conqueringlion420 7 місяців тому

    So it’s basically just cheap thin wood covered in fiberglass and foam to float? How strong are these things then are they capable of hitting offshore big waves high winds without tearing apart

    • @darlajean1045
      @darlajean1045 7 місяців тому

      No wood = No rot There is no wood on this boat. If you watch the first video of the build you’ll get a better understanding. We’ve crossed the gulf stream with her 6 times and ran into 6ft to 8ft waves during a squall and handled it just fine but personally I wouldn’t want to be out in anything bigger than 4 footers with this boat.

    That looks terrifying! I'm in the UK and hopefully buying a partially completed Richard Woods Skoota. Was there an alternative choice you could have made, or did you have to just sit it out? In the UK, I've never known wind to be so strong as to take paint off of metal. Crazy!

    • @darlajean1045
      @darlajean1045 7 місяців тому

      If I could go back and do it over I would NOT have stayed on the boat! We would have had a lot more damage because we wouldn’t have been there when that sailboat dragged into us in the middle of the night but I still don’t care. In Florida we like to have hurricane parties but this one sucked lol

  • @fredflintstone1428
    @fredflintstone1428 8 місяців тому

    WOW! What a build. Where did you learn to do the foam injection? Those engines look lie real beasts. Did you ever consider an electric solution and a solar canopy? I'm guessing not, as it looks like Mike likes speed.

    • @darlajean1045
      @darlajean1045 7 місяців тому

      Believe it or not my husband learned the majority of stuff for the build from UA-cam and his own independent research. We also would need a bigger boat for all the solar panels to get the power Mike would want 😆. Plus people don’t think about all the overcast days. Thank you for your comment!

  • @fredflintstone1428

    In my campervan, I installed a composting toilet and had the urine diverter outlet go into the grey tank. Since urine is sterile, the action of it mixing with waste shower water and sink water removed the smell even if it wasn't dumped for a few days or a week. Composting toilets are never 'composted' though. The action of this takes at least three to six months minimum. Great explanation of a sensitive subject. I would have thought a marine toilet and holding tank is the only way to go at sea. Any smells can surely be mitigated with the introduction of 'nice smellies' such as lavender or similar?

    Appreciate your candid thoughts , many issues I did not think of!, In a sailing catamaran I sail on there are 2 heads in each stern, the waste always goes into the tank. No Y valve. The tank is above waterline. When traveling or at sea we leave the valve open and dump ‘continuously’, In Harbor we close valve. A simple setup. Uses salt water flush. But no smell (waste is rarely in tank for long! ) Cheers Warren

      The designer of the boat specified 40 to 60 hp……we are using high thrust motors which are designed for the purpose of pushing heavy loads. It exceeds predicted efficiency numbers. Bigger motors use more gas and are less efficient if you don’t need the extra power.
