An interview with Tom Cutter
On a recent trip to New York, luck had it that Tom Cutter was having a garage sale at the same time I was passing through where he lives in Pennsylvania. I stopped for a few hours and Tom regaled me with some stories from his motorcycling life.

Roadtripping my BMW R65 to New York City

I recently had to go to New York for a work trip. Rather than take the train though, I decided to pack up the sidecases on my trusty R65 and get some camping and exploration in. On the way, I stopped at Tom Cutter's place, where he regaled me with some stories from his youth and career. You can see the full interview on my channel if you're interested. Fall comes relatively late out here on the east coast. When Appalachia’s already lost all its leaves and the midwest only has a scattered few left on the trees, we’ve usually still got bursts of red and orange foliage. We also still get some decent warm days a bit later into the season. And this was one of those days-the sky was clear, the last few leaves were still worth seeing, and I decided ...

Doing basic maintenance tasks like valve adjustments and oil changes on old bikes is a contemplative task-something to do slowly, with a bit of music in the background, and beer at hand. Back in the early 80s I had a R65LS. My then girlfriend (now longstanding wife❤) and I put 26,000 miles on it riding the moors of Northumberland in England and wild camping in the western highlands of Scotland. I should never have sold that bike.
