The Airheads are greatly underrated. My brothers road 2 airheads across Australia and back without missing a beat. Good to see that you trust the Airheads. Great bikes
The old girl positively humming along on this trip. 😊 As a fellow airhead rider from the UK (1983 R100RS) I really enjoy your relaxed trips through small town America, it’s the sort of travelling I enjoy and there’s no better bike than an airhead to do it on 👍
By the time I got home it was time for a valve adjustment, and the exhaust on one side had actually tightened up a fair amount, so maybe she was humming along a little too quietly! :)
At 08:33, a live goat in Zambia is apparently around 1200 ZAR, which is £34, or $45. You learn something every day. At 18:10 there's a little glimpse of a Royal Enfield Himalayan on the left.
Saw this over morning coffee. Thanks for letting me tag along. I appreciated your naming the roads and towns, at least the interesting ones. It lets us arm chair wanderers follow your route, and revive our own memories if we've been through that part of the country. Your commentary about riding in the wet reminded me of a visit to the DDS. He asked if I clench my teeth at night, as I had micro fractures in the enamel. I said no but then I recalled riding cold and wet for hours and hours and clenching my teeth against the cold. Yeah, that'll do it, he said. Also - mind that "riding like an old man" stuff! Ha!
Great videos, Keep calling out the town names it makes it fun to follow your route on google maps. Also your riding style is perfect, like they say… there are bold riders & there are old riders… but there’s no old bold riders! In 2017 I bought a 1974 60/6 in Philadelphia and did a road trip to San Francisco. They are without doubt some of the nicest bikes to ride, also with old tech there is a good chance you can fix most problems with the tool kit at the side of the road. Your video’s remind me that the most amazing thing about the States is you could literally spend your entire lifetime on a road trip and never see it all.
18:10 Haha 😂 the „99 Luftballons“ made me chuckle a bit. Dont know what it is but its such a pleasing thing to recognize your mother-tongue songs in foreigners videos.
@@ihutch92 btw. please never stop making these videos. (As long as you enjoy it obviously) I truly fell in love with them and it’s soooo comforting to watch em.
I recently purchased an 82 R65 then found your channel. Surprised to find you live in the same area. Hope to see you and the bike at Bob’s Motorrad on the 21st!
I recommend getting heated gloves and jacket. It is a total game changer for your cooler days. Especially as you ride some long distances. My wife and i got ours from 'warm n safe.'' Keeps us on the road year round in maryland. Oh, and keep on singing!
I do have a heated vest, I love it. I can’t use it with my rain suit though since I can’t plug it in to the battery connector. :( glad to hear somebody appreciates my singing though haha :)
Another nice video. I think you're upping your game with the added variety of shots. I laughed when you started singing. I do the same thing to make the miles go by.
Tramlining certainly can be disconcerting; back in the early 1980's I worked for the old Metro Messenger service, they had a fleet of airheads (don't remember the model, but they had full fairings, which was nice in winter) and I hated going over the old S. Cap. St. bridge with its metal grate sections because of how the tires would wobble. Never ridden in OH yet (except for crossing it on 70 on my way to CA, on the then-newer '73 Yamaha TX500, which I still have), but plan on coming through there and doing 555 in a couple of weeks, but going the other direction (unless I have enough time to do it both ways from Zanesville the day I get there). Rain in the low 50's sure can be miserable, but the low 40's or high 30's is the most miserable thing I've ridden in (except maybe a bit of freezing rain I once got caught out in and quickly but very gingerly made my way safely home in, thankfully only a few miles). Worked through a winter as a courier and rode in all kinds of crap I now avoid.
I’be heard of a few guys who worked for Metro Messenger, they all seem to have pretty wild stories haha. :) And have fun on the triple nickel, it’s a blast to ride!
Thanks! Another fun video. I've ridden newer BMWs all over the country, but just acquired a 1988 R100RS Airhead and have been enjoying its "underpowered" (by today's standards) simplicity. I work across 395 from the Pentagon and enjoy seeing familiar sights.
No wind shield? I started mounting a windshield back in the 80's and didn't look back. There are so many advantages, the main being comfort against bugs, wind and rain. A few years back I collided with a turkey buzzard going 50 mph, without the windshield it would have been in my lap. Even an inexpensive handlebar mount is better than nothing, at least you wear a helmet.
I have/had many Airheads over the years, and have taken many trips just like this one. In fact, I've been on a lot of these same roads countless times and have even visited the Mothman, but I still loved every minute of this video, thanks for sharing! BTW love that bike, never had an R65, now I want one.
Great closing comment! I have the same front tire and I hope to replace it soon! The first time I rode it on the fwy here in California was too scary. Looks like the corvette traveler missed 2/3rds of my home state but hit the North Coast which is beautiful. We hope to take our airheads up there soon.
@@ihutch92 I really enjoy your videos. The music is pleasant, great narration and professionally edited. I recently acquired an 82 R100RT with 26,000 on the ticker. Will have some fun times ahead 😀
Man you were in my backyard. I leave less that 10 miles from meijer Garden.. I have hex-head 2008rtp to be specific. I am always nervous taking it long trip.. I feel like I need air head at some point in my life.
Yeah! I have a chin-mounted GoPro Hero 7 Black for the riding clips. I keep the shutter speed locked and use ND filters to get a bit of blur. Then for the other stuff I’ve got a Sony A6400 with a 4/18-105 lens on it. Tho tbh you can just use a good smartphone camera instead, they’re so good nowadays.
Did somebody slash your seat while you took that little climb? I was noticing that you had that comfy aftermarket seat after the cool church/coffeeshop but no cut in it, then it looked like a cut after the hike. That would certainly ruin what was a great ride-
Thanks for bringing us along once again! Your videos always inspire me to ride my own R65 more. In September I put about 1200 miles on it riding around Norther California. Lots of adventures. I like your tank bag BTW. What kind is it?
It’s a Cortech magnetic tank bag. I’m not sure exactly what size, but it’s great! Easy to grab off the bike and it’s a good home for camera, phone, etc. :)
for the bike footage, I have a GoPro Hero 7 black. I use ND filters and lock the ISO at 100 and the frame rate at 24 to get the look I like. :) And for the other stuff is a Sony A6400 with a 4/18-015 lens.
I like your videos and love the old boxer, not a fan of your veiled political opinions. I don’t watch motorcycle videos for politics. On a more pleasant note, I wear Aerostich gear all the time so no need to change in and out of rain gear.
Ah well, opinions are like assholes, everybody has one haha. :) I’ll have to look into aerostitch stuff! It sounds pleasant to not have to deal with haha

Love the sound of the bike in your videos. Brings back lots of great memories of riding my R65 and R80rt back in the 80's.
Nothing like the sound of valve chatter in the morning. :)

Is there a reason people tend not to put any windshield on airheads?
Aesthetic preference I guess? Some do have stock fairings, but mine never did, so I keep it fairly true to original form. :)
