Unfinished Super Mario World Fangame
As you can see, I never finished. That's okay. I eventually moved on to other projects that I actually had 100% creative control over.
There are quite a few areas to this, but they are all unfinished. I showcase two areas- a gallery of objects, and a level map.
This is not a romhack.
I use a lot of sprites from www.spriters-resource.com
It has been a long time since I threw this together, so I don't remember what I actually used. If you made any custom sprites featured in this video, comment and I will credit you here. That's the best I can do.
Please let me know what you think.

Spyro the Dragon SNES: Stone Hill (SPC700) (Fanmade)

Uses 55k/64k of SPC/DSP memory. For the sake of sound quality, the beginning of the song plays the "Iceland" Distorted Reality sample, or "heavenly choir" sound as I've heard described by some people- simultaneously on the right and left ears. This creates an illusive stereo-sound effect. The lead instrument also has about 7 different samples to stay more accurate to the original, but this take...

The track featured in this video is mostly known as the title theme for the video game Spyro the Dragon. However, a similar version also appears in a comedy-drama film about the Lebanese Civil War. Both of their soundtracks were composed by Stewart Copeland, and most likely around the same time. Though the song only uses 5 of the 8 sound channels provided by the SNES, the samples do take up a ton of space, (40kb.) In theory, you could play sound effects the game needs, but only if you could fit them on memory first. I had a lot of fun finding out the best way to create that weird synth tremolo sound. I didn't want to just sample the original sound. If I did, the modulation would be tim...

Nothing too crazy. The biggest thing in this video is shown first; a sample of the drum into to 'Deathwish' used in "Agent 9's Lab." It was later discovered that, instead of Stewart (who worked along side Ryan Beveridge for Spyro 3) taking his own drum recording from the track, they appear to have used a sample from an existing library. The pack is titled "Unity DS-1." This is further confirmed...

    Hopefully this comment will give additional context for some newer viewers, as I've noticed a few of the same questions. I really wish UA-cam had a feature to update published videos. 1. "Was Deathwish really sampled? I think you're creating Police propaganda." Stewart Copeland and Ryan Beveridge worked together to create the soundtrack for Spyro: Year of the Dragon. It's music is by far the most loop-reliant of the original trilogy (which is not a bad thing!) Quite a few samples were taken from a pack titled "Unity DS-1." A sample in that pack is titled "N3 Hats" and it is unmistakably DEATHWISH. The sample is actually the same speed as the original recording of Deathwish. There are 3 other loops that also have a prefix of "N3" in their names, which are the tablas (also showcased in the video), the cut-up drums, and "Rez Band" which is the weird synth loop also used in the song for Spikes Arena. Please do your own research if you still do not believe that this is true, and I suggest finding a project called the Spyro Soundfont Collection if you love Spyro's music as much as I do. 2. Spectrasonics Heart of Africa & The Police Derangements. Before Copeland scored Spyro the Dragon, he also worked on a number of other projects. Copeland has used his Kurzweil k2500 and various sound libraries (including many from Spectrasonics) in a lot of these soundtracks. At one point, Copeland was making a documentary for the Police, which included a lot of film that was shot from the band themselves. It's score includes mashups of Police songs, which Copeland called "derangements." At the time of me making this video, I didn't know about any other occurrences of Spyro instruments appearing in these special versions. For example, Spyro's frequently-used "MOTOWN B3" organ can be heard in the Derangement Version of 'Roxanne,' or "PERC MED" (percussion samples) and the whole Spectrasonics loop for Spyro 2's Summer Forest being used in the remix of 'Don't Stand so Close to Me.' If you are someone who is quite familiar with Spyro's music, I recommend you go listen to these derangement versions and you will undoubtedly hear some very familiar sounds. I recommend 'Demolition Man.'

    It's not plagiarism because both are from the same musician. It can but be a try to make subliminal Police propaganda. Most classical musicians made the same trick, in a time where no Internet, no recorded music, no MTV, no radio existed, they could secretly use some fragments from their works and selling them to any King ready to pay a vast amount of Ducates in return.

    • @nevets5
      @nevets5 27 днів тому

      I never said it was plagiarism, just a cool fact. Actually, it was recently discovered that the drum loop Stewart or Ryan used (of Stewart’s playing) is from a sample pack they took other loops from. I wonder what Stewart thought when he heard it…

      @So_Stupendous 24 дні тому

      Lol.. what a wild thing to say Spyro the Dragon is not The Police propaganda.. Stewart is an honest musician, and worked on Spyro literally 2 decades after the police broke up. The two things aren't really contemporary to each other, the police didn't need subliminal advertiseming by this point lol.. what a deranged take honestly, UA-cam comments are hilarious And yea the video is a bit of a stretch. Like the single tom sample? And he didn't invent the drum roll.. idk, I can tell it's Stewart, but it's not really obvious in a few of these examples

      You’re semi-right! I did indeed stretch (time-stretch) the sample of Stewart’s Deathwish intro to fit the loop used in Agent 9! (couldn’t resist the opportunity to spin the comment) Even stranger, it appears Stewart and/or Ryan took it out of sample pack they were using at the time. Other Spyro fans found that one out, not me. Stewart has also shown to use his Kurzweil k2500 and Spectrasonics libraries for his other projects, around the same time. One of those being The Police - Derrangements.

    Thanks for sharing. Back in the olden days of forums I made like this but smaller demos to prove that it's not hard to make a fangame that plays basically exactly like the original. Just couldn't understand how everyone making Mario fangames were such bad programmers. At least they were trying to code. Today's wannabe 'devs' trying to make 2D platformers on modern convoluted 2D engines are pure cringe.

    • @nevets5
      @nevets5 Місяць тому

      It just takes a lot knowledge on how the original games felt. I think that a lot of fan-games like to re-use the Mario World pixel artwork just for the sake of style. And yes, making fan-games and replicating the original's quirks can teach a person a whole lot more about game development.

    • @yellowest_ball
      @yellowest_ball Місяць тому

      @@nevets5 Ironically, back then I always knew of SMB3's to be the style that plagued fan-games. I used to use emulator's RAM viewers to replicate games, even ones I had no idea about. Now you can find online charts of exact values if you wanna replicate any of the SMAS games. For me the sad part about modern 'gamedevs' is that they barely wanna touch code, and instead just stitch together loads of the built-in functions of some random 'engine' in ways ideated by someone else, or even worse, AI. Games have become shittier and way more inefficient.
