Thank you for stoping by my EV OG UA-cam Channel.
I'm BrianG and I've been driving an EV since February 14th 2013 when we took delivery of "Chocolate Rain", our brown 2013 Tesla Model S 60 with rear facing seats. Since then, we've owned 7 EV's in almost 11 years.
In 2023, we added "Valkyrie" our silver 2023 quad-motor Rivian R1T and "Mystique" our Mariana [metallic blue] 2023 Fisker Ocean One. Today we have "S3X" in our driveway with "Valkyrie" and "Mystique"... You might say we've been good at acquiring EV's, but terrible at parting with them (maybe it's the fact that we give them names...?).
My intention with this EV OG UA-cam channel is to SHARE our experiences as decade-long EV owners & enthusiasts, CONNECT with other EV owners, enthusiasts, or prospective owners, and LEARN more & help others LEARN about EV's.
I'm excited to share, connect and learn with you. So...thank you for joining me on this journey.

EV OG March Podcast the FULL MONTY...UNEDITED!
Nice SUV! Very informative video, thanks!
He’s at 83% call the cops and have his balls tazed, see how he likes being charged
Having charged at that loication, I can say that I usually see most EVs under 80%. However, out in Owings Mills, there is always more than one person charing well above 80%. When there are people waiting, I often stop at 75%. We have to learn to work together until there are more fast public options.
I love the head to head comparisons of these vehicles. Looks like y'all had fun too, so bonus for that!
I live in Iowa, and about 2 weeks ago Tesla had a charger offline for about 2 days. First time I ever saw a Tesla charger offline. Come to find out, they doubled the stalls and now it's 325KW! Being a CyberTruck owner, I can't wait to see 325 in person.
To be honest...if someone is charging past 80% they may have a reason. I find people coming up to my station a bit invasive and poor etiquette as well. We wouldn't do this at gas stations as it is generally understood to give everyone their personal space while pumping gas. Why do people feel it's okay to invade each other's space and business at charging stations?
@@K9Trixx Thanks for watching and commenting. Some also charge past 80% because they don’t know any better or have poor EV 80Quette. All that said, you make a good point about personal space at chargers that I will keep in mind in the future.
Great to see people practicing good EV 80quette! I can’t believe someone would pull in and not plug in, that’s bizarre. Great report!
It is also informational to see how many EVs have been charging for <30 minutes. My Ioniq 5 gets 2 years of free EA 30-minute charges, as do other EV brands. IF there is no one waiting for the DC charger, I will always exceed 80% to get to 29 minutes. With battery pre-conditioning, I can go from 10% to 80% in under 20 minutes on the 350 kW station. Why throw away 9-10 minutes of free power, unless there is someone in line, of course?
@@EVRick-Ioniq5 Thanks for watching and commenting. With no one waiting and available stalls I see no issue with getting your full 30 minutes. That said free DCFC is mostly no longer available from most EV providers.
The long and short of the Fisker story is that a company sold an expensive product before it was ready to be sold. Going out of business was due to their own incompetence. ASlash304 says at 1:02:32, "When people are knocking at the door telling you they want somethin', you're gonna deliver what you got...". As someone who bought the beta model he is blaming himself and other buyers for Fisker's underdeveloped Ocean. It wasn't completed or ready to be sold. A responsible company would have said, "we are not going to give you what we've got because it isn't ready to sell yet." If not releasing the Ocean had caused them to go out of business, their shareholders would have been in the same boat they are now, but there wouldn't also have been many consumers who made enormous commitments to an unfinished product that killed the company. The recent hatred and blame for MKBHD's pair of critical reviews is completely misplaced. If they hadn't made a beta version of their car available for review, he wouldn't have given his first bad review of a bad (comparatively) product. If Fisker had been an honest company they would not have sent him a second, still unfinished, car to review. I feel terrible for people who went underwater in the hopes of having a car of the future, but I feel angry that all MKBHD did was give an honest, factual review of a product currently being sold. I was considering buying one, and I will be forever grateful that I learned the truth about the car's readiness.
Yeahhh... I'm not gonna consider the point of someone who wears such an offensive symbol around their neck. And as it turns out, you were wrong as Fisker went out of business.
This Fisker purchase wasn’t the first nor last time I made a mistake. Perhaps you should look in the mirror and ask yourself why you’re offended by a symbol that is empowering to me and many others.
So, you don't ask questions or get curious about the necklace you go straight to judgment. You have no idea what that necklace is about because you make ASS-umptions. Please, show us where the necklace hurt you. Evolve dude...
Hey Steve where were you on January 6th, 2021? Your response reeks of ignorance and hatefulness. Nothing about the necklace is offensive, unless you are into oppression of others. Take a moment to recognize your behavior and correct it
Excellent review brotha, thank you.
Really a great and informative video! Thank you. I'm in Ottawa (Canada) and will be getting mine in a couple of weeks. I'm getting a ceramic coating, and didn't know they could do a matte finish. I'll have to follow up on that. You forgot to talk about the range: over 500 km (310 miles?) which is amazing! That's about 150 km more than my XC40 Recharge.
Thanks for the video! I like that u summarized ur repair costs at the end. Helpful as I’m getting a 2016 model X p100D. Stoked.
Great info! I was gonna use the Tesla charger on Volvo xc40 recharge 2022 but I'm not seeing that car on the Tesla app. If anyone knows what I should do please let me know Thank you.
Right on to your son! Nothing could convince me to purchase a Tesla product at this point in time. And, Adam, I think you're wrong on this one. Musk dropped a couple hundred million to purchase the US Presidency. Pretty cheap, honestly! Now he's attempting to do the same in other nations like the UK and Germany. It's very much about his politics. Also, his anger about his daughter who's disowned him.
100% Adam on the free charging. The fewer people clogging chargers that are only there because it's free, the better!
Great discussion, and looking forward to your content in 2025, especially your idea on the interviews. That would be a really interesting discussion and perspective. On the topic of Musk, I disagree with Adam. It's not about the bonus money out of Delaware, and it's about his ego and power. He wants the praise, he wants the attention, he wants to be seen as a "genius" to the point he lies about having a degree, he wants to be the founder. That's always been his MO. He shifted right because he saw he could get more of that without the questions and accountability. The problem now he's gone full-blown fascist and we have to live with consequences. The public give rich people weigh way too much credit. They're idiots just like the rest of us. 😂
Thanks again for watching and commenting. Looking forward to sharing "EV Conversations with an OG". 100% agree on much of Musk's behavior being idiotic!
Mr. OG thank you for confirming my thoughts about my next EV. I want value and unique features/look. I currently drive a 2024 LYRIQ. Looking forward to what new EVS comes out in the next 2 years.
Thanks for watching and commenting. Congrats on your 2024 Lyriq. That is indeed a unique, feature-rich, and good looking EV. Optiq & Escalade IQ should build on this w/in the Cadillac brand.
Point of clarification. If you jointly make over $300,000 per year you are NOT eligible for $7500 ev tax credit. So people buying Taycans and Lucids(though not paying anywhere near msrp) are really taking the very real deep depreciations. That being said, those cars at 50 cents on the dollar are an interesting buying opportunity and still under warranty. The risk is the rapid change in technology in each new factory year.
Thanks for watching, commenting & providing your feedback. Many if not most high income earners are likely leasing vehicles at that price point in order to get the $7,500 credit as a capital cost reduction. I agree 100% that the used EV market presents great buying opportunities. That said, I'm inclined to go the lease route for the reason you mention of pace if innovation.
Love my i5N as my daily driver, most fun I’ve ever had in a vehicle and I’m 45 years young lol. Even in Pennsylvania with snow tires still an amazing vehicle. Thank to both of you for you pod cast, I look forward to seeing what’s next.
Thanks for watching and commenting. Congrats on your I5N. Looking forward to testing one at some point this year.
@ Adam and I had fun driving mine, it’s an experience for sure.
I’m a Polestar 2 owner and love all the Polestar content you’ve been sending out! I’m really looking forward to your Polestar 4 test drive!
Thanks for watching and commenting. I'm a fan of the brand so looking forward to sharing my test drive and other Polestar content...including an update from Khalil after several months of ownership.
Range?
Estimated EPA mileage is 450 miles according to GM
Thanks for watching and commenting. SOrry for not including range specs. As noted by @nycplayboy78, it's about 450 miles...
Lovely with the matte wrap, would look good on the lighter blueish gray as well. We test drove it. We like the steering wheel actually, lately steering wheels have been getting almost cartoonishly chunky and this one is a nice change of pace. The lack of interior ambient lighting was a strange omission, as was no option for an openable sunroof. You'll find both of those on other euro competitors.
Thanks for watching, commenting & sharining your experiences. I hear you on steering wheel heft and non-opening glass roofs. I wasn't aware that P3 doesn't have ambient lighting...? P4 has really nice ambient lighting, so it's surprising to hear they don't have it in P3.
@EV_OG We were also surprised! Our Polestar Space is in a large shopping mall so the test drives begin in the parking garage. So even in the middle of the day it is dark enough to test such a thing out while playing around with the center screen before taking off, we mentioned that we could not see any settings for this and the salesman said that it just wasn't a thing. Maybe next model year?
Given that this is really more of a lifted hatchback, this really is an upgraded polestar 2 in every aspect.
Thanks for watching and commenting. P4 is actually an all new EV platform for Polestar. The P4 also has many new innovations from the brand.
No rear window is a dealbreaker for me. I haven’t used a rearview camera that didn’t bother my eyes, so I’d need the option of a mirror. This is $55,000 base model RWD, but I’m guessing 0 to 60 in 6.9 seconds won’t cut it coming out of a model s. Around the same price as the AWD is the Ioniq 5 N. Different kind of car but a driver’s car. Similar to this but a bit more expensive there is the BWM i4 and then jumping way up in price the Porsche Macon EV. That seems like a dream car to me.
Thanks for watching and commenting. It was a dealbreaker for me initially, but having spent a few days w/ a Cybertruck which also has a digital rearview w/ the tonneaux cover closed, I realized it's something you can adjust to relatively quickly. The P4 long range dual motor does 0-60 in 3.8 seconds, so it's quicker than my 100D MS. Ioniq 5N & BMWi4 are good EV's but don't I prefer P4.
I'm definitely hoping polestar psny will have profitable 2025 that interior looks awesome . I hope we get to see u do test drive or software in actual use .thanks for reviewing 🎉
Thanks for watching and commenting. Polestar viability is still uncertain and don't see them being profitable in 2025. That said, I will be test driving the P4 as soon as it's available.
Great video review. Have you considered the Lucid Air? It's a fantastic driving experience. You should definitely test drive it if you haven't already .
Thanks for watching, commenting, and recommending the Lucid Air. I haven't driven it, so I may do that. The cost for a non-based model speck may be more than I want to pay, but we'll see.
OG, Appreciate your video. If you’re planning to replace your TMS, why not wait for the Polestar 5? I believe it will compete with the Taycan/e-tron GT, Lucid Air, Merc EQS, BMW i5, TMS, etc.? Hopefully it arrives in early 2025.
Thanks for watching, commenting & recommending the P5. I don't think we'll see the P5 until 2026 or later, and I don't think it will be at a price point I'm looking to spend.
Ive driven Polestar 3 and 4 and they are the best EV:s ive ever driven. Much better build quality and ride handling than Tesla also.
Thanks for watching commenting and sharing your experience witht he P3 & P4. I've only driven the P2, so very much looking forward to driving the P4.
I like the polestar ev's but what I dont like is that they are produced in Communist Red China and owned by Geely so iam not going to buy one..
Your phone is made in China and you have no issues with that
Thanks for watching and commenting. I don't love the fact they're made in China, but I expect that to change for US market vehicles. The P3 is now being made in the US, so we should soon see the same for the P4.
Since you’re looking for more of a drivers car I’m curious if you’ve given the Lucid Air a look? Being a drivers car is what the Lucid Air is known for but even the lowest trim is more than the P4 so that might be prohibitive.
Interesting. The Lucid Air is a great highway driving, straight line driving car, while the Polestar 2 (which I drive) is a great car for handling and on curves. I expect the Polestar 4 (which I have on order) to drive somewhere between the Polestar 2 and the Lucid Air.
@ Actually the Lucid Air is an unbelievable drivers car for any kind of driving, highway, straight line, curves, etc. I drive a Lucid Air Touring and I live in LA with canyon roads all over the place and it handles them superbly. What used to be the main knock against the Lucid Air was the infotainment software but they’ve really improved it with OTA updates. The ADAS is also subpar compared to some other vehicles. When it comes to driving though, any kind of driving, it’s exceptional.
Thanks for watching commenting and sharing your experiences. I respect Lucid for having the best EV powertrain tech, driving dynamics, etc. However, the exterior design doesn't move me and the price is more than I'd like to spend. I also don't love the Saudi investment connection...
@@julianevjourney I find the Lucid Air super comfortable, but long, which, for me, impacts the handling. I love driving the Polestar 2 in the canyons. See you on Mulholland Hwy one day!
@@EV_OG Pricing is a bit of a fiction if leasing. A few months back there were some great lease deals for Lucid Air inventory on hand.
Thank you for the vid! I am def considering the 4 as a 2nd ev vehicle myself. However I will wait for the pre owned ones and get it at a good discount price
Thanks for watching and commenting. Pre-owned and leasing are wise choices in the current EV market.
Great video as always Uncle Brian and thank you for keeping on top of things in the EV space...
Thanks for watching commenting. Looking forward to doing more of this in 2025.
I'm really interested in Polestar. My only concern is that all the forums talk about how bad/glitchy the software is and the issues people have as a result. Primarily, I've been researching Polestar 3. Hopefully, that gets cleaned up.
Thanks for watching commenting and sharing. Android automotive w/ Google assistant is one of the best infotainment SW options available. That said, initial issues delayed the P3 here in the US, but have been improved. And we're seeing the same with P4 in international markets. It should be well sorted by the time the P4 is available in the US.
I absolutely love my Polestar 2 Performance! I have always planned to replace it with the Polestar 4 Performance when my lease expires since I got to see it and ride in it at Polestar Day 2023. I think a great driver's car replacement for a Model S would be a Lucid Air...
Thanks for watching, commenting and sharing your experience. I don't love the look nor the price of the Lucid Air, but I will schedule a test drive to check it out.
Gotta say I am into the polestar design language. This seems like a good step up from the model S.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I'm with you on Polestar design. They are some of the best looking EV's inside and out, and the P4 is the best of the currently available Polestars.
Thanks for the review of the P4. How is the XC40 treating you? Hopefully the infotainment is running smoother.
Thanks for watching, commenting, and asking about our XC40R. We're still struggling with infotainment system resets and other glitches. I suspect they will need to replace the center touchscreen.
@EV_OG Well that sucks. At least it's under warranty. Definitely not the norm. We love ours.
Thanks for the great review. I am guessing that the J3400 receptacle can utilize all Tesla SC sites, not limited, as the “NACS to CCS adapter” EVs are, to v4 SC stations.
The Polestar 4s are being delivered with CCS connectors currently.
Thanks for watching and commenting. Polestar and Volvo both have access to almost 18K SC's with an adapter.
Thanks for watching and commenting. Polestar are indeed great looking & driving vehicles.
What specifically makes you more of a fan of the 4 over the 3?
I like what Polstar is offering in the ev world! Sharp looking vehicles!
Thanks for watching and commenting. Polestars are indeed some of the best looking EV options.
Great review picking mine up this week!!
Thanks for watching and commenting. Congrats on your new P3!
Thanks for the demonstration. We have a C40 but have only DC charged at EA. Our Volvo is not our EV roadtripper but you never know when a fast charge will be necessary. Happy Holidays!
Thanks for watching and commenting. Glad to hear you found my video useful. I will likely be doing a follow up since software updates for supercharger route planning and payment using Volvo cars app. Congrats on your C40. Great daily driving EV.
Thanks for the in depth review! What can be done to correct the door squeaks?
Excellent video and timely for me. I'm cross shopping the Polestar 3 with a Rivian R1S. I test drove the Rivian for the 3rd time yesterday, and test drove the Polestar 3 today for the 2nd time. I'm leaning strongly towards the Polestar. The quality of the materials and the way it drives are superior to the Rivian in my opinion. Plus they are giving great lease incentives right now that make it considerable more affordable than the Rivian.
@@phatCars Thanks for watching and commenting. You can’t go wrong with either, as they are both great options. This is also a great time to buy/lease.
Heading to the tesla silver spring today to pick up cybertruck!
Thanks for watching and commenting. Congrats on your CT!
Great video, OG. Where did Khalil get his P3 wrapped? I'm hopping into a Polestar 2 soon and I'm in the area. The detailer shop did a great job here.
Thanks for watching and commenting. Khalil went to CeramicPro Howard County.
You can't beat Teslas efficiency and charging network, Rivian and other EV makers are going to be playing catch up for a long time
Thanks for watching & commenting. If you can't beat them, join them... And many EV OEM's now have access to the Tesla Supercharger network, and some even have better efficiency.
They maybe better, but there needs to be more available throughout the country. I am routing for Rivian, saving up for R2!!
@@CyArch97 Thanks for watching and commenting. Rivian and other DCFC sites are expanding daily. Joining you in rooting for them.
The visibility through the windshield looks a bit tight with how low the roof is and the screens sticking up. How does that seem to you?
Thanks for watching and commenting. I'm looking forward to test driving the Hummer EV SUV to get a better a feel for this, ride comfort, maneuverability, cabin noice, etc.
I’ve also noticed Fsd on my wife’s new 3 is better than the software on my Cybertruck
@@henrywilliams5458 Thanks for watching, commenting and validating FSD seems better sorted on M3.
