Fishing the PNW with Dave
United States
Приєднався 5 гру 2021
This channel is about fishing in the PNW. I mostly fish salmon, steelhead, trout along with crabbing and shrimping. I work in a sporting goods chain store in the fishing dept and get to talk fishing for work, how cool is that! I plan to expand my fishing to walleye, bass, and fly fishing and whatever direction my fishing takes me. I talk to numerous people that are new to fishing or going back to fishing after a long hiatus. Look for learning videos and how to tie knots, rig for certain fisheries, locations (shhh). Stay tuned
Solo trip September on the Columbia for salmon
I went 1 for 5 this day, anything and everything that could go wrong just about did. At least I didn't get stuck on a sand bar this day. Between broken lines, fish coming unbuttoned, reel coming out of reel seat, finally got one on a phone bite, it was a jack, only fish to the boat all day. Humbling for sure. Any day on the river fishing for chinook and coho are good days no matter what.

First time using electronics on the kayak for the Prineville Tournament, Garmin Live View with the GLS 10 box and LVS34 Transducer. Having used the LVS32 on the big boat, the images I got from the LVS34 on the kayak were amazing.
Shout out to KFNW and fellow bass kayak guys!

Just back from my first live event that I actually finished without a disqualification or DQ for short. Felt pretty good so I'm doing this video to say thanks and give a shout out to all who helped me along the way. People I'll name here are Gregg Marshall, one of the first people I came in contact with and has been a great help figuring out the Old town AP136, and answering my questions about ...

First Columbia River bass in the kayak

Sorry for the just the rear view, front camera failed on this trip, stay tuned how I fix this. I was fishing a tube and kept getting a bite in the same spot, I dropped a split shot and the smallie finally grabbed it, my first bass in the kayak. Columbia River showed no mercy today, wind was hard, didn't stay out long. Thanks to Gregg for taking me out. Springer fishing has been slow, I'll proba...
First Columbia Springer

First trip of the season, turned out to be a good one. First chinook in the boat for the year. Been playing with the kayak, so got a late start to the springer show. We were 1 of 3 according to the fish checker at the dock. Typical springer show, triangle with cut plug herring. Water was 48 degrees.

Went bass fishing, ended up with a couple of trout instead. Interesting enough, the big trout was fin clipped, never seen that before.

Been since last year of posting any fishing vids. So here we go. Caught some steelhead, plunking and took a trip with Cody Herman of Day One Outdoors. Been wanting to get my head wrapped around pulling plugs in our local river for some time, I've had plug success in the past, but really wanted to get tuned up on plugging, and Cody was the one to get me there! Along for the trip was my good frie...

Love it when your reel comes off, Great footage and temper control, especially after loosing four in a row. How were the hooks?
you mean were they barbless? yup. Were they sharp? Always
It looks like rough day and no one their to give crap
Well as far as a rough day, I'll take a day like this over no bites at all. At least I was doing something right..
You guys sure like to horse your fish in geeze...
10 fishermen, 10 different ways to fish. I fish regularly with probably that many, and EVERYONE does it different.
Hope he doesn't grab the rod that fast on a herring bite 😬
I tell people to sit on their hands and count to three, never works, but we landed it, so it was all good!
I'm sorry and I'm not trying to be mean spirited. But this was cringe level. Not everybody put a reminded me of The Three stooges, especially the guy in the black and yellow jacket. Somebody take the gaff hook away from him. He hooks into a halibut and then he starts eating a sandwich. He's got his electric real going too fast for a fish that size and he's not even paying attention to it. Then he keeps eating his sandwich in your face. And then the guy on the right rear of the boat trying to unhook that smaller halibut. I just had to quit watching. Like I said it wasn't everybody but they're certainly was a couple of bozos on that boat.
Limit out?
every time
Try going to GoPro labs and using their QR code for TUSB (Trust USB). Once you update your GoPros with that, you won't have any issues with external USB power! 🙂
How has it held up?
so far so good, haven't flipped upside down to actually see, but from what I can tell, good
Would this stuff seal rivets and seams? I have an aluminum boat that I want to seal and was going to use gluvit or coat it. I need it to go into the seams and rivets to seal them up. Would this be better ?
Following as I have the same question
water
just kidding, really cool video man!
This is a very good video. Thanks!
Cool video. Thanks for showing how Livescope works. I have not used Perspective mode. Would be interested to know your settings when in Perspective and if they change for Forward Facing?
There's a gyro inside the transducer, so when you change the orientation of the transducer, the chart plotter will automatically switch from forward to perspective, you can also change it manually.

Is there a specific McKay pot you are using? Octagon? Square? Coffin?
Octagon. Out performed all my other pots, sold them went all McKay.
I’d be interested in seeing the lead pouring process.
I actually recorded some, I'll post in the next couple of weeks, stay tuned
Your video was very helpful. I used a "weed burner torch" from Harbor Freight to heat the old Gluv-it coating. It worked great. I then just scraped off the coating. I then used the angle grinder with 80 grit to make sure everything was removed and then cleaned with acetone. The whole process took about 3 hours.
nice, glad it helped!
Great video. Concise. And no stupid music playing in the background. 😂😂😂 Going out for tomorrow’s opener up here in area seven. I’ll try to remember to come back here and let you know how I did and give you my modified bait recipe. I bought the 22 pound bag of Friskies seafood sensations thanks to your video.
This was the first year we didn't go shrimping, got real busy, we're planning for next year for sure. Look forward to your recipe, cheers
@@fishingthepnwwithdave7833 Went to my spot yesterday and got totally skunked the first two pulls. Moved to a saved waypoint from last year and got 19 in the first pull. Sort of disappointing but at least it wasn’t a skunk. Pulled the 2nd pot and wouldn’t you know it?…..60 shrimp, putting me just one shy of 80! 😂 I used 6 cans of Special Kitty wet, then about 4 lbs of Friskey’s “Seafood Sensations” dry, a couple cups of fish attractant oil, and finally, about 4 cups of shrimp pellets that I heated in a saucepan with some water. The pellets sat overnight. Going out again today.
New to Central Oregon. Where can I get some good bass fishing here? I live in redmond, but willing to drive a bit if needed. Thanks.
I'm new to bass fishing, salmon, steelhead, that's a different story, I've joined several groups on FB, it helps. I only know of these private ponds, so that doesn't help you. Good luck.
Stupid
How many hours did the gluvit removal take? Mine is going slow... but I dont have an air compressor big enough to use a air tool.
took several days, give yourself time
How much did those oblong sinkers weigh?
4-5 pounds, those are window weights
Nice meeting you today. Hope we can share the water some time soon.
Nice talking to you, hope to see you soon on the water!
How long does it last?
only been a year for me, so far so good!
I did the same thing with my AP120 for three reasons. To see how the PVC would rest, to see how far apart they need to be (for the trailer bunk spacing) and for length. I didn't, at first, include the 45 degree extensions and the end of the PVC caught on the lip of the kayak when launching.
Nice Dave. Thanks for letting me video at Sporstmans. The line you guys put on my reel today was good luck. Soaked my line in the water for 30 minutes hooked my first Columbia springer this season after two days of trying. Tight lines. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
nice!
can't remember your channel name, what was it ?
Looks like a three hour tour to me, except I don’t see the professor
Great video, Dave!
thanks!
Great video! Thank you! Going to buy these soon!
It was great to meet you Dave!
What rod were you using to plunk with? Awesome videos. Definitely subscribing!
That particular rod is a Lamiglas SK 11MHC 11' medium heavy rod, a bit overkill for what I was doing, but it's my plunking rod. More for chinook than anything else. Probably could've gotten away with something smaller, maybe in the 10-20 lb line rating range, but when throwing 4-6 oz, need a decent rod. That rod in the video has a butt extension as well, I bought this setup used, paid 150.00, reel alone was worth that much. Got lucky.
Nice!
How can I make appointment for halibut fishing with you guys this year. Have a any trips soon.
I don't take clients, I'm not a fishing guide, but I'm sure there are some guides out there you can book a trip through. Good luck
What size did you order ? Just the 1 quart?
What size did you order ? Just the 1 quart?
Winner winner chicken dinner!
Is that braided line?
What was the red material called.. the 2nd material used? (Sorry im new to all this lol)
Where is this?
great video
what weight spinners do you recommend?
When it comes to Blue fox spinners the size is stamped into the blade. For steelhead, 3's (1/4oz) and 4's (3/8oz) would be your most common. Some spinners like your Flying C's come in two weights, 5/8oz and 7/8oz. Your river condition will dictate what weight (size) spinner to throw. Really depends on current and how long it takes the spinner to get into the column. I'll carry 10-20 different spinners with me when I go spinner fishing, different colors, weights until I find what is working. I like making my spinners, for one, it's cheaper, especially when you loose spinners, and you will loose spinners. Either caught in a tree or a snag in the river. Hope this helps, good luck.
Hey Dave how do you color your weights? Like what product do you use?
Plasti dip, I use different colors for different weights, works pretty good, I mix colors, keeps cost down
@@fishingthepnwwithdave7833 thanks Dave I’ve been thinking about doing this just didn’t think to use plasti dip gonna give it try .
Dave thank you for giving us those tips for fishing the sandy river me and my son appreciate your info . Your awesome. Andres barraza and son he made sure I subscribe to your utube hope to see you there one of these days
Absolutely! Come in from time to time and I'll fill you in on where the fishing is happening, I'm there Wed and Fridays 9-1, lets get your son into some fish!
Good job. Nice video. Is this below or above Bonneville?
Below
Thanks for sharing 👍
What length of rods do you use?
9'3" out the back, 10'6" out the sides, I'm running the 10'6" here
Another great day. Thanks Dave
Yes indeed, you're welcome! and thank you for coming!
Good video 👍🏻👍🏻 I’m doing my aluminum flat bottom swamp boat soon.
good luck!
I make a lot of my own spinners and have been doing it for almost 15 years... soak your surgical tubing in warm soapy water, it makes it easier to work with.. I would hate to see a treble hook in your fingers.. I use walleye blades I buy online from great lakes region. Price is better and rotate at slower speeds. Plus you make patterns no one else out here has and gets you more bites. Also get some cheap unscented baby wipes, clean your spinners with before they go in the water, the wipes will also shine and polish the spinner blades, you will hook a lot more fish.. Hopefully these are some helpful tips...
I have been getting mine for years from sportco and fishfield...sportco will notify you when one that is out of stick cones back in... from what I can tell sportco gets more than anyone else... I had my 1st spinfish in 3.0 do the same after 4 fish in 2 trips...other option is at your local tackle shop get to know the guys at the back counter... sometimes I get a phone call before the public gets a shot to purchase.
What boat launch puts you in this area of the Columbia? Great videos!
