Fishing in 2024 steelhead and sturgeon.

Been since last year of posting any fishing vids. So here we go. Caught some steelhead, plunking and took a trip with Cody Herman of Day One Outdoors. Been wanting to get my head wrapped around pulling plugs in our local river for some time, I've had plug success in the past, but really wanted to get tuned up on plugging, and Cody was the one to get me there! Along for the trip was my good friend Joel and his dad, Chuck, we had a great time.
Now on to my kayak. Bought it at the end of last year. An Old Town AP136. After fishing next to a kayak last year, I knew I had to have one. It got delivered in November, was finally able to take it out on the yearly "Sleigh Ride" event for fishing sturgeon from a kayak. What a hoot! My first sturgeon I was on the phone with my good friend Shane while he was fishing the Columbia for smelt. Not in the video is the fourth one I hooked into. It ended up tangling a bunch of lines. So I cut it loose after about a 15 minute battle. I'm guessing by the way it had my rod bent, it was a big one! I had a blast that day, met some great people. Shout out to Adam who game me with some first timer advice at the ramp, and Daniel and Kristine for helping me get to know the ropes of landing a sturgeon. They let me scoot in for some great opportunity to fish for these prehistoric sea creatures and played photog for me. Shout out to Next Adventure and Talon rods, took home a Talon rod in the raffle they sponsored in the lot at the boat ramp.
I wasn't really sure how this trip was going to go being my first kayak outing period. It went great! Got to know some people, caught some fish, doesn't get better than that. Prepare for a whole lot more fishing vids from the kayak, and big blue too. Springers are here, time to go get them! Feeling blessed, cheers all.

What rod were you using to plunk with?

That particular rod is a Lamiglas SK 11MHC 11' medium heavy rod, a bit overkill for what I was doing, but it's my plunking rod. More for chinook than anything else. Probably could've gotten away with something smaller, maybe in the 10-20 lb line rating range, but when throwing 4-6 oz, need a decent rod. That rod in the video has a butt extension as well, I bought this setup used, paid 150.00, reel alone was worth that much. Got lucky.
