but like how do u rate ppl of one move (which is basically ideal from both of them) u litterally cannot determine a rating from one move, ayanokoji could be 3000 and still play this move and arisu could be 2400 and still be confused why ayanokoji played this

Even when the moves you show in the video are the last ones (made by Ayanokoji and Sakayanagi) you forget that most of the encounter wasn’t between them, which make a 1600 encounter very realistic 😅

Animators should have hired world's top player to make his move, they just ruined the whole anime or it would've been better off if there chess gameplay wasn't displayed

What I don't understand is why they didn't just use an AI for this? It wouldn't have really cost them anything and would have made for a much more believable scene. They could have just had two AI's play against themselves and then animated that on the board. Obviously I don't expect them to keep genius chess players on standby for scenes like this, but two AI's playing against each other would have worked fine. If I personally needed to animate a scene like this, then right when the captains took over I'd have started putting the board information into something like "next best move". Stockfish is open source, crank that to the max and have it play against itself starting from the boards condition at the time of the captains taking control. It can play well over 3000.

They are genius but they are not professional chess players. Ask Einstein to play against Magnus and magnus will obviously win. Also keep in mind that half of the match was played by newbies. Just be glad that they (the creator) show real chess game. Unlike many shows or cartoon who don't even set the board right.

“Genius” characters are seldom accurate representations of geniuses. The portrayal is always rather shallow from my experience, and limited by in large by the writers own perception of what it means to be smart. It’s like to say you can be a genius and also suck at chess. You can also be amazing at chess and not be a genius. At the end of the day though suppose all of it is up to interpretation, you can draw the lines however you like. Point is, yeah it’s a bit expected that they aren’t actually all that.

I don't think any chess moves are mentioned in the light novel actually. I remembered looking for it and try to see how good they actually are, like you with the anime, and there is nothing mentioned in the light novel.

this is something that when i saw the anime i said "this chess match gonna be criticized by a real chess player" i dont know if computers can do what im going to say but, if i were the writer i would have had two ia chess computer playing each other at 2600 rating for no one can complain

I get that the game is mid on the objective realistic level of chess, but most people only know how to move the pieces, or a little above that, so concepts like a queen sacrafice and a counter queen sacrafice will be just understandable enough to most people if they pause and pay attention, but not so high level that they can't make sense of anything at all. So in my opinion, I think they did their job, which is appeal to the majority and larger audience.
