Super close racing on CB 500's | Oulton Park | No Limits Racing
A bit of footage racing with No Limits Racing at Oulton Park. Had a mega weekend with the other CB 500 riders and had some close battles on track.
The weekend wasn't all smooth riding, I struggled with my suspension and the bikes handling. Look out for the bike weaving on track, it was especially bad going into island bend. The rear shocks have gone and need replacing, felt like I was fighting the bike all weekend🤦
Managed to get down to a ⏱️2:00 lap time, which isn't bad for me on a little 50hp bike 😎
Hope you enjoy the footage. 👍

A bit of practice at Oulton Park before my first race with No Limits Racing at Donington park, in a few days time. @@7sj3Ax Hi, thanks for the comment. I asked Ben who built it, and he said we could have done that and it would improve performance, but would mean having to get the crank balanced and was a bit overkill for the build. We tried to make it as cost effective as we could. 👍

      @@hungrysurfer9471 Yeah I would say it's probably one of the bikes that could easily do it. The engines are pretty strong as they aren't really under any stress. Theres talk of setting up a cb500 6 hour endurance race on the Facebook groups i'm on. So might be a something that happens next year. Not sure on weight as we can only remove fairing and road parts, no modifying to make it lighter. Power wise, they are 52hp maximum.

      @@johna6968 Hey thanks for the comment. Yeah there's a few I know that have had problems with the Hagons. Guess it depends how long you've had them. It is annoying they can't be serviced, as it makes them useless. They are cheap compared to other shocks, but still annoying you can't change the oil and sort them out. Yeah I'll give YSS a try and see how they are. The loud exhaust rasp is because my microphone is right next to the exhaust can, so it's picking up all the noise loudly. It means I don't get all the crappy wind sounds that you usually hear on videos, but does mean it sounds loud with exhaust noise. Yeah the smoke is quite common on these, especially when you give them a thrashing. Usually when I'm dropping down gears hard into corners.

    I'm in NL looking at buying a cb for a project. Might take it to the track, but it definitely won't be racing. What have you done to the front forks other than the pre-load adjusters? What do you have for the rear suspension? Sorry if this is somewhere in your socials, I couldn't find it easy

    • @SuggyRacing
      @SuggyRacing Місяць тому

      @@thedijon Hi. The front forks have standard springs in them, with a 130mm air gap and 20 weight fork oil. That is what majority tend to use for the front forks. For racing in the UK we can't use the pre load caps. But I did find them good on a track day. The rear shocks are Hagon and all they have is a heavier weight spring on them, that's it. Again, we can't modify them. All I do is run them on the most compression setting. There's also YSS shocks which you can use a heavy weight spring, and use a heavier weight oil. Which I'm going to try at some point. They are a fun little bike to have 👍

      @thedijon You can definitely make it better. You could go all out if you wanted, with a custom cartridge kit. But yeah, it will get very expensive . You can also get better rear shocks with compression and rebound on it, but again it's just cost. Depends how much you have to spend. The fast lads who ride these bikes, have some serious lap times all with standard equipment. So a lot of it, is the rider if I'm honest. 😁

    • @thedijon
      @thedijon Місяць тому

      @@SuggyRacing I think you're right, and I think I should stick with a few small upgrades first and see how that feels. Front brakes are definitely #1. • @SuggyRacing
      @SuggyRacing Місяць тому

      @@thedijon Yeah if you changed the to what I have, that will make a huge difference along with a smaller air gap. On track it works well, but on the road it's no good. Yeah brakes are good place to start, Armstrong disc is brilliant. The standard disc is terrible, it gets too hot on a track. Sintered or race sinter pads are good along with stainless lines. Get some good tyres too. We use Dunlop sportsmart TT. That's pretty much it really. We use flat bars instead of the standard ones, but that's just preference.

    How to know you are old. First brief sight of the exterior of the engine, and my mind thought: "Oh cool, a GB500" Those were neat, this will be really interesting, and my gosh how nice and shiny this lovely old specimen looks!" The GB500's despite being singles, had twin header pipes, so that helped along the whole old guy thing until the: Wait. What? A twin? I am confused! moment Siiiigh, lol. 🤪😆

      @@SuggyRacing You've kept it for so long! Yeah it's due for an upgrade, it's a bike that can do everything great but nothing perfect imo, but that's what makes it amazing. Decent low torque, comfy clip ons, pretty stable unless you smash the throttle (imo everything that exceeds 200kmph needs a stabiliser) , could use better brakes etc.. How did you find the suspension? I am a heavy rider 100kg so for me it was underwhelming.

    • @SuggyRacing
      @SuggyRacing 3 місяці тому

      @@manbiteslife3110 yeah as a bike, I can't fault it. It's probably one of the best all rounders as you say. I still love riding it, it's just that I like doing track days and racing now. So I barely ride it. I'm tempted to not even bother with a road bike after this. Yeah what let's this down are brakes and suspension can always be better on any bike. But, it's still a decent ride on the road. Yeah if you are heavier, maybe get someone to try set it up for you. They will come set to a standard setting which is never ideal

      @@SuggyRacing I've seen a lot of track videos in your page. I had a cbr500r when I was doing some track days and advanced lessons and it was so fun, and I kept up with everyone. The joys of riding a slow bike fast is unmatched. I need to get back on the track to hone the skills some more. So right now you don't want to ride bikes in the street or maybe you have a smaller one for errands? I'm situated in Greece, and the amount of time I save by zigzaging through the traffic is unreal to not have one. Are you looking to go all in in the track and racing thingy?

    • @SuggyRacing
      @SuggyRacing 3 місяці тому

      @@manbiteslife3110 Yeah I just find it more enjoyable. The traffic on the UK roads is horrendous so it's just not fun at all, unless you go out very early morning or late at night. Then we have a lot of rain to deal with. I just do the odd day/race when I can. Gets very expensive. Yeah I agree, smaller bikes are so much more fun 😁

      @SuggyRacing 3 місяці тому

      @@andywilliams4063 It would definitely be good on a road bike, it all helps it with performance. Ben can probably answer better than me, but if you only do porting it will help, but not as much as having the other work done too. It's a balance getting it all running well. A good set up on the Dyno would help a lot too. 👍
