Star Trek Discovery's Best and Worst Episodes | Best 5, Worst 5
The bulk of Discovery is very middle of the road, but there are some high and low points to highlight.

What about this scenario? Instead of Janeway having to jump through hoops to get back to the Alpha Quadrant like in Prime, Janeway finds out about the Bajoran wormhole in the Gamma Quadrant and catches a ride with the Borg in the later seasons to the wormhole, coming out right behind the Dominion ships with Borg cubes just as the war's about to end
What I find interesting is that the Voyager is the only vessel to fulfill the Enterprises' mission. Since the Enterprise (along with A, D and NX-01) spent far too much of its "5-year mission" shuttling ambassadors, transporting medications, and visiting (and re-visiting) well-known planets, Voyager is the only one to explore strange new worlds and civilization and to boldly go where no one has gone before.
I love caaaaaaaaaaaves!
Call me crazy, but I actually love Discovery. There's lot of wonderful acting performances, deep character development, and it's visually stunning.
I wouldn't say I love it, but it has some of Trek's best moments!
Nothing. At least in terms of story writing and themes and so on. I think that's the point. But even so, you had aliens like Ferengi, Klingons, Amelia Earhart, a 37 Ford. The Maquis storyline was dropped. What's surprising about Voyager is how little the Delta quadrant mattered in terms of storytelling. They always seem to have enough resources and photon torpedoes and a crew that never seemed to shrink. The violence and conflict that could be generated from scarcity that affected the crew of the Equinox did not affect the crew of the Voyager. Yes, Paris would have spent more time in jail. There's still an expanse that we learned in Enterprise. And Catherine Captain Janeway could have felt depressed during that as well as she did in the episode Night.
There are "best episodes"?
There sure are
It would have been a really quick series :)
I love how in depth you go with this. Thank you for this one.
In the end, then, the Borg would fully conquer the Delta Quadrant, the Beta Quadrant, and the Alpha Quadrant. Full control of three quadrants gives them enough advantages to conquer the Dominion and overrun the Gamma Quadrant. Back to the very beginning: What happens if the SS Columbia crashed on a planet sometime before reaching Talos IV?
After re-watching ds9 for the 5th time I still cent bring myself to watching this show
Other top great ship classes are Sovereign, Akira, and Defiant.
At least one thing we can say for certain. Harry Kim never gets promoted.
There is so much I either don't remember, or vaguely remember, that I might need to start this show again during the upcoming "drought."
Try watching it out of order. If you know the general season arc, try finding the smaller moments that actually makes the show worth watching!
This review of Disco's lows and highs makes me want to rewatch the series again. I have trouble distinguishing between episodes other than it is all beautifully filmed, but the one about Airiam stands out to me.
Especially on the worst end of this video. It's tough. At Disco's worst it's still much more serviceable and not actively insulting as so much of Trek is. How many times can Deanna Troi get pointlessly mind assaulted? There's some random scene in almost every episode of Disco that's good.
Ah yes, DIS. 😂😂
Why did you assume they wouldn't have stabilize omega
I mean, they'd already had one accident with the stuff, and neither the borg or Federation could do it. The 10-C are the only known civilization to be able to do it, and this race was not a Level 2 or more on the Kardashev Scale.
You know when I saw the series premier my reaction was she could have rigged a photon torpedo with a timer and beamed it into the engineering section of the array. In fact I believe torpedoes already have a built in timer that you can set for a delayed explosion.
Well they wouldve been in the Dominion War. The doctor never wouldve gained a personality, the Maquis crew wouldve been imprisoned, no Borg technology, etc.
Did they WARN the humans on the 1937s planet...ABOUT THE BORG??? IT WAS A DOUCHE MOVE, for whoopi goldberg to NOT warn the Federation about them when the Enterprise B SAVED their refugee asses!!! LOL
Thinking about it, they could have returned home using the array, and set the tri cobalt explosives on a time delay on that huge station. LOL...
They did write a subplot to get them home early if the "lost ship in the Delta Quadrant" angle did just not work, Suspiria the other Caretaker alien would send them back. Personally, by season 4 it was dragging Voyager down and they should have used the Dauntless quantum slipstream as a real Federation ship, able to bring Voyager back, and had them help out until the Dominion was defeated, then return to the Delta Quadrant to clean up some messes and continue exploring, with the help of other StarFleet vessels.
If Voyager had returned, the technology that was tested on Voyager might have been used more quickly on other ships in the fleet. And technology that was no longer used because Voyager was lost would have been tested further. This would have led to considerable advantages in the Dominion war. It might even have prevented it. Since Janeway refers to the Romulans as “simple problems” in Nemesis, the Romulans could have fought on the side of the Federation much earlier without what happened in Moonlight. The stories from Prodigy could work with Harry Kim instead of Chakotay.
Prodigy would be pretty much completely out in that scenario though. Would they have just gone randomly to the Delta Quadrant?
How many seasons would the show have gotten if that's how the first episode went? 1:00
This is a thought experiment in universe. Pretend this isn't a television show for just a second.
@bestoftrekworstoftrek I get that, I appreciated your fun video. It was a fun what if, in universe.. Now then pretend it is a TV show and the pilot was a 2 hour hop to the Delta quadrant. Then we see the dominion war and other Alpha quadrant events from a second perspective. How many seasons do you think we'd have gotten? Maybe it'd only been 5 seasons and ended when DS9 ended in 1999 instead of 2001. Does that mean that maybe Enterprise doesn't happen? They started Enterprise when Voyager ended so either it starts early or maybe never happens at all..
10:46 'Unimatrix Zero remains a refuge'. I don't think so. The Queen's search for Unimatrix Zero was going on even before Seven got taken by Voyager. By the time Seven learns about Uni Zero they are getting anxious as the Queen is slowly honing in on them. Seven's connection to Uni Zero only sped up the timeline for the Queen finding Uni Zero.
But the Queen hadn't found any way to disrupt it, and in a post 8472 war with a greatly diminished collective, they probably wouldn't use resources on it.
@@bestoftrekworstoftrek Possibly, but Uni Zero was a great thorn in the Queen's side. There is no way of knowing in what kind of state both the Borg and Uni Zero would be after the war as species 8472 was determined to wipe the Borg out, so the war could very well have wiped out Uni Zero with the Borg only having a few systems left before they find a suitable weapon. Species 8472 is a purely biological species after all.
So you're not human unless you have a wife and kids? Who wrote this, JD Vance?
Not saying that at all, and even bring that exact point up. But on Picard's own journey these are things that clearly ate at him. You're not human if you distance EVERYONE in your life, to the point that it takes to the very last scene in a 7 season show to actually engage with people you work with outside of work.
Yaaaaaaay the Borg conquer the galaxy
Would have been destroyed in the Dominion war.
No neelix it would be great
What if voyager went into the gamma quadrant and took far end of the worm hole to get back to the alpha quadrant
Considering the Intrepid class was just a Engineering project. Meant to develop new warp field geometry technology, and the fact there's only a handful of them class in existence. Voyager is probably kept out of the fighting like the Enterprise. The ship used for diplomacy. "Yes we're at war, but look at our new ship and all its fancy technology. Care to join our alliance, and get this tech for yourself?"
Voyager probably would have become one of the key ships in the Dominion War. Star Fleet was upgrading and refitting ships as fast as possible for it and Voyager would've been no different. It could've been refitted with armor like the Defiant's armor and re-armed to the teeth making it a real powerhouse. Also, we've seen Janeway's ability to keep that ship alive against all odds in combat while alone in the Delta Quadrant. As hard as the Dominion War would have been for that ship, surviving it would have been "easy" compared to what they handled alone in the Delta Quadrant as they would've have access to Star Fleet. Plus her scientific know-how may have allowed Star Fleet to develop weapons and shields for the war much faster. Instead of Rom's self-replicating mines, Janeway could've come up with something that the Dominion couldn't dismantle, or Voyager could've been the first to have shields that could've stood up against Dominion weapons and maybe could've been close enough to DS9 to stop the Dominion from capturing the station. With the latter, Star Fleet may never have needed to get the Romulans involved in the war and it could've ended a lot faster and before Damar rose up against the Dominion. In fact, they may have lost with Dukat still in power resulting in a very different fate for Cardassia in the end. The only question remaining is what about Seska? On one hand, she's a Cardassian spy and could've undermined Voyager and Star Fleet's war effort by steeling their secrets to where the Dominion could've won the war. Or she could've still been discovered after getting wounded in battle or something and stopped. Or maybe she could've transferred to DS9 to spy on the Federation at the outpost closest to Cardassia and the Maquis and it would've been Sisko's crew that discovers what she's doing and handles it instead. My guess is probably that last one. After Voyager returns, as a spy, DS9 would've been a far better place for her to operate and get access to Star Fleet undetected than a tightly controlled star ship. Who knows, maybe she could've had a good side story with "plain simple" Garak.
That is a REALLY good point. I didn't think about Seska. It's really only a question of whether she would be imprisoned with the rest of the maquis, found out by Starfleet, or escape back to Cardasia and become one of Gul Dukat's key people
I don't understand why an interstellar quasi-governmental UN organization would feature such trivialities on it's news program.
It's not meant in any way to be serious.
Love this. Very entertaining.
Risans AND Deltans? The Yorktown's gonna have jamaharon all over the place.
You don't want to be the one to change the holodeck **** filter!
Double horga'hns all the way!
You also forgot to mention that because Voyager are not being in the Delta quadrant, the Delta Flyer would not be designed with Borg technology + Switches or not at all because the federation had runabouts and shuttles.
I know exactly what would have happened. Short trip, maybe two episodes and then we'd have to move onto the next series much earlier.
0:58 - why? Does Picard get assimilated again? Or does Janeway, and they end up giving her some vaguely greco-roman-sounding name, too?
I have heard a convincing fan-theory that Voyager's "true" mission was a pre-emptive strike against the Dominion, with the mission undertaken in the pilot just an extraction for Janeway's tactical officer gone horribly wrong. The theory goes that after recovering Tuvok and apprehending Chakotay's crew in the Badlands, the ship would travel through the wormhole and use its speed and tricobalt devices to strike at the Dominion similar to the way the Obsidian Order and Tal Shiar would attempt to later that year. After all, the theory goes, why would a science ship like Voyager be equipped with such dangerous tricobalt devices? They wouldn't possibly be useful or economical in capturing the Val Jean... this was a piece of evidence in Seven's conspiracy theory from "The Voyager Conspiracy." Now, obviously, since in your scenario they use the devices against the Caretaker Array, their mission against the Dominion would have to be postponed so they could be delivered new ordinance. This could mean that the Voyager crew get involved in a couple episodes of DS9 season 3? The Dominion would certainly not take the tricobalt attacks lightly- who knows how they'd retaliate. I can even imagine a changeling replacing Admiral Janeway in revenge. Would definitely be a compelling story for Captain Tuvok.
7 stays a borg and the borg never gets infected so no picard season 3.
I'm really sorry, man. I really enjoyed watching your videos but I just can't do it anymore. Having to try and skip over and add every minute and a 1/2 to 2 minutes is too much. I can't do it anymore.
Skip over what? What are you talking about?
@@bestoftrekworstoftrek Ads, sorry the auto correct got me.
Then you're complaining because anyone has ads at all. I put 2 ads more than 10 minutes apart in a 16 minute video. Sorry I'd like to at least make slave wages back for 50 hours sunk into a project.
Dude, you spent all that time to put yourself into the clips of the show, and did a good enough job for a video like this. But, you couldn't spend another few minutes on each clip color correcting yourself to fit the clip? Shame.
When I do music videos I do color correction, but honestly no I couldn't. Over the course of hundreds of pics thats many hours of correction to add to an already lengthy process. At some point you have to make choices about how to get a video out every week.
"What If Voyager Hadn't Been Stuck In The Delta Quadrant?" The series would have been a lot shorter. Can't REALLY see that as a bad thing.
There the one with Seven and when she accuses the weapon's dealer. And the one with the Klingons search for their messiah.
So, it looks like Voyager did a lot of good in the Delta Quadrant.
Just coming to say.. "Voy". Yup, that it is.
