Mate my Mazda has a nicer looking start button than that 992.2. The 992.1 twist key looks 100x better, is this a joke?
Put the car in sport plus and push your red button on the freeway then floor it and you’ll get banging shifts or as you call it ah ah
I shall try, but hope not. I was talking about violent shifting that are distracting and almost uncomfortable. Ex. late model Toyota Supras.

I just took delivery of my 992.1 Carrera S about 3 weeks ago. My dealer calls it the Unicorn as it is probably the last manual transmission delivered here in the US. I probably added more options than most people want or need. But I am absolutely in love with the car. The sound is amazing as is the analog tach. All due respect to those of you who like the PDK, but I would not drive a sports car with an automatic transmission. It’s like dating your cousin. It’s just wrong.

Do you ever drive in heavy traffic daily?
@bourbontraveler im in California so I'm used to daily traffic. I know some people say its difficult or annoying having a manual in traffic but it never bothered me.

@@bourbontraveler all the time. The clutch and shifter are so light and smooth you hardly know that you are shifting. Not like my old 964 or my old MG or Austin Healy
Pressing a button to start up the engine and a complete removal of the last analog dial on. 2 has greatly reduced 911 sport car spirit despite the car has gone through a facelift upgrade! Keeping my 992.1 C2S
I’ve got a 2022 2wd manual gearbox lightweight package 992.1 absolutely no way will I be moving up to the 992.2
Price out a 992.2 if you really want to appreciate your .1

I prefer the analog dash on my 991.2. And my sports exhaust has more crackle... The alcantara steering wheel on my 2018, is not too hard to keep clean with a brush and some detailing products - looks new every time I clean it. Otherwise, the 992 is a very nice car, but not worth it for me to upgrade.

We just got back from our European delivery of our .2 and they mentioned European noise pollution laws so that’s probably what’s accounting for the lack of the pops on the .2.

My takeaway is, if you have a .1 there seems to be no reason to sell it for a .2 unless you want the "latest" model. Just my opinion. Cheers, nice video.

So many silly gimmicks. Almost all new cars are worse functionally than their predecessors. New cars suck. I bet the 992.2 has fake piped in exhaust noise, Blasphemy.
I recall a reviewer has already confirmed this. I just hope it isn't piped in for the GT3's.
I’ve heard this as well, however, I put my ear next to the speakers and had a colleague Rev the engine and could not hear anything so I wonder if they’re talking about the sound Sypmoser hole in the firewall?
Great video! I’m in for the .2 and I’m waiting for a T allocation. I’m sure I’ll change the exhaust at some point and while the start button is a bummer, it’s certainly not a deal breaker. I’ve been hearing that the ecu is locked in this new car which may have me changing my mind.

I’m buying this car but sadly have to go thru a broker as the 3 Porsche dealers closest to me in the S.F. Bay Area wouldn’t cut me any sort of deal even if I ordered it. Base with only 3 options. Bose, insulated glass, gentian blue.

Prefer the .1 rear light arrangement and the sound. If I could transplant the .2 front lights to a .1 then that would be perfect in a brewster green colour !

Not a lot of love for the 992 - 991 was peak Porsche. 992, german taxi cab look and feel.
@@VK6AB- While many feel that the 997.2 is peak water cooled 911 over the 991. A 991 is quite large too.

@@dragoshsd Uncertain as to which generation you are speaking of, but 997.2 production was low due to the world economy being in the toilet therefore literally making every variant of the 997.2 rather limited, especially when equipped with a manual transmission as PDK was launched in the fall of 2008 for model year 2009 and PCNA and their dealer network were pushing PDK heavily.
I have a 992.1 Carrera GTS with a manual gearbox. I have also HAD a 991.1 4S. My 992 is a far superior car than my 991 was.

Nice video. Simple and informative. I’m surprised I prefer the front of the .1 cos I liked the final reveal of the .2. I prefer the .1 lights and grill.

Thanks for the great review! Does the .2 not have any over run or burrbles and pops in sport mode ? I couldn't hear any at all. Not sure if the mic just didn't pick it up. As far as throttle response, suspension, braking over all driving feel etc did you feel any difference ?
I couldn’t get it to pop or gurgle in any drive mode. Otherwise no difference in drive. It reminded me of driving a Turbo S in its refined smooth speed.
Does the arena red 993 have a manual?
Yes
The first thing I noticed was the smooth refinement of the engine in .2 which also seems to rev quicker. Its also nice to see gear and speed indicators stacked again!
Placebo effect as they share the same engine with the only differences being the .1 GTS turbos (2) and .1 Turbo intercooler on the .2 base engine for a 9 hp gain (388 vs 379 on the.1) and the torque remains unchanged at 331.

That overboost button on the steering wheel is my best friend. I used it the second day I had my car. I was getting on the 405 Sunday morning at 5:30 AM and found out go to jail Speed is instantaneous.🤣🤣🤣

Trying to save couple grand on safety and ride quality when paying $100K doesn’t make much sense. But then again, some people voted Kamala
targa is just fashion today so will be out in 10 years . cabrio is the real design. I remember the old targa from 1970 were people were curing this ugly metal to transform it in cab.
Mike, really good analysis. I happen to have a 911S and really love it but always wondered (perhaps longed for) how a 4S wound be different. My driving feelings are substantially similar to your comments about the S. BTW, just ran into your reviews by accident this morning and have subscribed as you offer insights only someone with your access and ability to compare has. I feel it will help me in evaluating alternatives for my next Porsche.

You didn’t try the cab with the windows up. You can drive it with the just front windows up and with the rear windows up. 65 it’s listed and you can try both those combinations with the deflected up or down. It basically gives you six different ways of driving with the top down.

I always drive cab (not a Porsche) with the front windows up. When hot, ac is turned on, when pleasant temp, it is ideal to drive with windows up, when cold, heating is turned on.
Does the 992.2 T have the turbos from the 992.1 GTS?

I’d be pleased with either body, but strongly prefer the manual.
Manual is sooooo smooth
People order a standard steering wheel because it doesn't obscure the instruments so much.
The Targa wears the brake shield on its neck - above 100 km/h it gets uncomfortable and loud. Porsche would have to integrate wind tunnels to divert the wind flow. What the video shows excellently and unintentionally, however, is the iron-hard suspension set-up of the GTS (1st car). Rather not a daily driver. Thanks for the informative video and all the work! Gorgeous vid. Nice to see that the angle of the windscreen is the same as the non-convertible’s. Thats the right experience of open driving like mine Saab 9-3 OG convertible. About feeling secure in an open car…you have to have some skills to own a convertible, one of that is to have some authority 🤓 so people will not enter your car.

Targa variant is the best looking 911 in my opinion.
I sold my 918 for an incredible offer and received a Turbo S. It’s a great car but my 1997 Turbo is still my favorite. That whale tail just can’t be beat
Also stop touching the piano black trim. You can sweet the scratch marks from it. :) I have a 992.1 and had PPF done on those areas.

Ha, no, you didn’t miss it. I didn’t know the Targa had a deflector. I will go try the car again with the deflector and see what difference it makes. 👍🏼
Thanks so much for this. I don’t think anyone has done a full back-to-back comparison like this before. I am a former 991 gts cab owner and considering the targa since I agree that the looks are much better and I live in western Canada where the all wheel drive and more secure top is appreciated. I’m also a motorcyclist so wind doesn’t bother me but the “whomp whomp” buffeting does. This is a great breakdown and will help in making my decision. Cheers!

I sold my boxster and brought a 992 targa. Sold it after 6 months and brought another boxster. The targa is far far too noisy with the roof down.

Porsche seems to be playing chess with people. They save the perfect combinations for the 911 not everyone has access to and put out few combinations to attract buyers to a different trim of 911. Annoying but smart. I'm with you Mike when it comes to the price increase of all these 911 porsches. It would be hard to bring in new buyers into the non GT series 911s. I am still shocked with the price of the new GT3 and that is not factoring in options and dealer markups. That means the RS will be 300k plus. That price is tickering with Ferrari prices. Hmm yea idk about that. For those complaining about lack of manual options, i better see more 2025 carrera Ts on the road.
It will be interesting to see how the .2 T will affect the .1 values.
@mikerusznak in my opinion, I feel like the .1 would depreciate no matter what but for those "manual" lovers, it will definitely depreciate more. And ppl wanting the .2 will increase since no other 911 .2 has a manual option yet.
