Josef Haydn - Symphony No. 94, "Surprise" - Third Movement - Original MIDI Performance
Welcome back, Classical MIDI fans! Continuing on with Josef Haydn's Symphony No. 94 "Surprise", we come to the third movement, which is minuet and trio in name, albeit at a faster tempo than one might expect. Much like Mozart's third movement of his Symphony No. 41 "Jupiter" (check out my performance of that here: ua-cam.com/video/LzZTVIA-KXM/v-deo.html), it is very reminiscent of a cross between the waltz and the Ländler, an Austrian folkdance that involves a good deal of hopping and stamping. Unlike Mozart's version, there isn't a sense of "instability" when listening to it, but the highlight of the bassoon as a melodic instrument was an uncommon twist to the traditional orchestration.
No changes on the technical front this time around, as I really feel like the overall mix and master is pretty close to where I like it to be. Please leave a comment below letting me know if it works for you as well, and don't forget to like and subscribe as it really helps the channel grow!

Josef Haydn - Symphony No. 94, "Surprise" - Second Movement - Original MIDI Performance
Переглядів 76День тому
Welcome back, Classical MIDI fans! It's time for the moment that gives the name to Josef Haydn's Symphony No. 94, "Surprise" the second movement! At first glance, the movement is a relatively straight-forward example of theme and variations, with a simple theme in two eight bar sections, each repeated. Haydn was a composer who relished adding musical jokes into his compositions, and the opening...

Hello again, Classical MIDI fans! We take the next step in our "Symphonic Journey" with one of the finest examples of the man who has come to be known as the "Father of the Symphony", Josef Haydn. Taken from the height of his fame, fortune, and personal happiness, today's selection is the first movement of his Symphony No, 94, "Surprise" - the second of the renowned "London Symphonies". Greetings, Classical MIDI fans! Today we present to you what may very well be Mozart's greatest purely orchestral work: his longest and last that he composed, Symphony No. 41 in C Major. Nicknamed the Jupiter symphony after his death, it is likely that it was never actually performed in his lifetime, despite being written about three years prior to his death. It was completed during the Summer ...

Welcome back, Classical MIDI fans! We have finally come to the pinnacle of Mozart's orchestral music - the undeniably brilliant fourth movement of Mozart's Symphony No. 41 in C Major, the Jupiter Symphony! Written in the traditional sonata form with 2 repeated sections, no less than 5 themes are presented, and through the work two or more of them are combined in mini-fugal sections. But it is i...

Hello again, Classical MIDI fans! We are back with the short but utterly delightful third movement of Mozart's Symphony No. 41 in C Major, the Jupiter Symphony. Sticking true to the expectations of the day, this movement is in the form of a Menuetto, but a bit slower than is the norm, marked "Allegretto". It's very similar to the classic Austrian "ländler", but I've always felt like it has a fe...

Welcome back, Classical MIDI fans! It's been a little while, but we are BACK with the next step in our "Symphonic Journey" with the second movement from his Symphony No. 41 in C Major, the Jupiter Symphony. Considered by some historians to be a subtle l'homage to Johann Sebastian Bach, it is the only symphonic slow movement in his entire catalogue to bear the indication "cantabile" as part of t...

Welcome back, Classical MIDI fans! We are moving to our next step in our "Symphonic Journey", with today's selection from the most progressive of the Bach children, C.P.E. Bach's Sinfonia in D Major (Wq. 183/1). Written no later than 1775, it was a very daring take in its day, written in what's called the "Sturm und Drang" style ("Storm and Drive", literally), showing clear influences in later ...

Hello, Classical MIDI fans, and welcome back! Today we take the very first steps on the long road I'm calling "The Symphonic Journey"! We begin with Alessanro Scarlatti and his "sinfonia" from the opera Griselda, written and first performed in 1721. Though it is today more commonly called an "Italian Overture", the sinfonia of the late 17th and early 18th century are the direct forerunner of th...

Hello, Classical MIDI fans! Today we present Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 6, "Pastorale" - one of his few explicitly programmatic works. Can i get this midi file of this for our church
Hello there! Since I consider my arrangements original performances of these works, I'm afraid that I don't give out the MIDI files. In all honesty, without my libraries, plugins and template within Cubase, it would not perform for you the way it's rendered here. Sorry!!
what program is this?
Ah! Apologies for the delay in responding - we had some significant flooding issues in my hometown, and I've been offline for a few days. I use Cubase 12 Professional for my work, and the scrolling is just watching the Track View while the piece plays through. Happy to answer any other questions you might have, and thanks for listening! :-)
Beautifully done!
Thank you kindly! I feel like I've grown a great deal in the past two years, and was considering re-releasing it. What do you think?
@@RockOmellette I'd say DO it! 😃
gracias, me re sirve, estoy haciiendo un juego que va a salir en la playstore en 4 dias y es muy inspirador tu trabajo, never change nunca cambies loco segui asi
Congrats on that amazing achievement! And thanks also for your works of encouragement, as well - you keep going too! 🙂
What program did you use to visualise the MIDI?
Hello there! I simply use the Event view within Cubase, selecting all the instrument tracks and coloring the note events by instrument (woodwinds are orange, brass are yellow, percussion are light blue, string sections are dark green). Then I maximize the window and capture the screen as it plays back. I use video editing software to attach the audio mixdown to the screen capture, and upload! Hope you stick around and enjoy more! :-)
Wow! This mock up is amazing. Very well done!
Thank you so much for the kind words!! I hope you browse around the channel and find more to your liking! In fact, I have a new piece dropping tomorrow! :)
@@RockOmellette I will look for it for sure! Thank you for letting me know.
Do you have this midi file any where? This sounds amazing
First of all, thank you for the kind words! I appreciate you taking the time to listen and enjoy!! I don't use any pre-existing MIDI files to create my performances -- everything you see on my channel I recorded myself, track by track, using Cubase 12 Pro as my DAW of choice. Sorry!!!
Gracias por el vídeo.
You're welcome -- and thank YOU for watching!! I hope you stay and enjoy everything that this channel has to offer -- and more is coming soon!
❤So lovely❤i love Christmas 😊
Thanks so much -- and yes, it's a lovely piece for a festive time of the year! I remember hearing it for the first time as a little kid on my first visit to hear the Boston Pops. It's stuck in my mind ever since!
I sincerely appreciate your talents here😊 outstanding job❤
Thank you for these wonderfully kind words! The Royal Albert Hall Organ instrument really sings here... :)
This Performance is Magnificent ❤
Thank you kindly! I was nervous how the High C would resonate, but the Hollywood Choirs VST is more than up to the task! :-) As I go through "The Symphonic Journey", there will be at least 2 symphonies that have choral parts within them. Can't wait to tackle that!
We sang this in school in the 1960’s. One of my happiest memories. Loved singing in Latin. 😊
So glad you enjoyed it! One of the reasons why I have been working to do choral music here is because of the love I had for the times I sang in choirs over the years! I'll have more choral music coming during my "Year of the Symphony" efforts in the coming year -- though not necessarily in Latin! Hope you enjoy that, as well! :)
I used the 20-plus year old Symphony Orchestra by East West and Quantum Leap in my interpretation of this symphony, but I think I managed quite well: ua-cam.com/video/PLShk4M2Cy8/v-deo.html Anyway, I just wanted to say that I like your mockup, although I would have done an accelerando at 7:34.
Thank you! Very kind words indeed! I've heard some performances execute an accelerando at the point you mention, but I've heard just as many performances that did not. For me, the decision came down to the fact that there is no accel. marked in the score at that point, and none of the marked up scores I found in the NY Phil digital archives did either. But that's the beauty of works like these! Each interpretation is unique and valuable! Thanks so much for listening, and I hope you find more you can enjoy, as well! :)
Breathtaking!
Thank you so much - I'm glad you enjoyed it! Hopefully there's more here you like! :)
How can we get a copy of this cubase file?
Hello there! I'm not sure what the Cubase file will give to you, as it's referencing all of my sample libraries, which are not part of the Cubase stock plugins. In addition, I consider this an original performance. Much of the hard work in executing this performance is in the recording of the individual tracks, as well as the mixing and mastering process. Can I ask what purpose you have for obtaining the file?
Brilliant absolutely brilliant
Thank you so much! Please feel free to stay and subscribe to hear more! I upload as often as I can! :-)
First off, I sincerely apologize ahead of time if I have translated your comment poorly! I appreciate the kind words!! The music does feel like a journey through one's imagination about the astrological meanings behind the planets and their symbols! As for what software libraries I used, they are listed in the description, along with links to their respective websites. I didn't use any synthesized sounds, just samples and sample modelled instruments. I hope you stay and find more to enjoy! :-)
Nice sharing! New subscriber from Canada
Thank you so much for subscribing! I'll be uploading the conclusion of Beethoven's 6th after my holiday specials, and I hope you find more to enjoy while waiting! :-)
Is this copyright protected? 🫣
The sheet music itself is not, but my performance is my own. Why - do you wish to use it for something?
Congratulations on your work here. This is something very rare and difficult to do.
Thank you so much! I hope you find more that you enjoy! Any suggestions would be most welcome, as well!
I forgot I was listening to midi! Superbly done!!!!
Thank you so much! That's exactly what I was hoping for! :-)
Very interesting and informative. Looking forward to more instalments in this series!
Thanks! I do need to be better at the "talking" portion, as well as how I structure the video shots, but appreciate the encouragement!
Another absolutely cracking performance! The balance sounds very good to my ears. Well done!
Thanks so much! Already working on the second movement -- stay tuned!
Having done battle with the Hollywood Choirs' Wordbuilder many times before, and knowing this wonderful piece well, I'm happy to admit being utterly dumbstruck at this. What an absolutely amazing job you've done. Only on the isolated repeated notes does it betray its technological source. I have the fantastic Tenebrae version of this bookmarked...and now yours! Kudos.
Thanks again! Really, truly appreciate the kind words! I'm going to put together a tutorial about WordBuilder, eventually. Right now I'm just trying to get my scenes right in OBS, haha! I'll walk through my template first, and get to WordBuilder when I start walking through the libraries within it, in detail. :-)
@@RockOmellette good luck with that!
The MIDI rendition of this iconic piece is truly astounding! I'm impressed by the detailed representation of BWV 565, and regardless of the debates over Bach's authorship, the charm of the piece remains ever-present. The technical challenges and VST choice really enhanced the quality of the performance. Thoroughly enjoyed it!
Thanks a lot! I sincerely appreciate the complement -- and I'm starting to check out your channel as well. Really liked the visual representation on your most recent video, the duet from Die Zauberflote. What software was that, if I may ask?
Awesome!
Thank you so much! I just started checking out your channel, and really love what you've done with the video aspects! Also, Coco is awesome! :-)
@@RockOmellette Thank you too! i've been nosing around your channel and I'm in awe at the amount of effort you've put into it...and the amazing quality of your results. Proper performances. Stunning. (I still can't quite get along with piano roll though!). Coco, regrettably, *was* awesome and we still miss the old chap dearly 🙂
I hear you - our furry child Calvin is getting up there, as well. And again, really appreciate the support! I'll give your channel a proper listen as well - Symphonic Poem #6 is playing right now!
Demon faces in your chosen image. Nice.
That's just how AI art I created rendered the faces. They're just blurry, not anything more than that.
Can i get the MIDI for this? And other sacred songs that you have done?
Hello and thanks for listening! I don't work from a straight MIDI file -- every piece I do is recorded by me as a Cubase 12 Project file, which uses MIDI to interface with the virtual instruments I've collected over the years. As for other sacred songs, yes - I've got a "Sacred Music" playlist, which as of this reply has 14 videos within it! Hope you enjoy! :-)
how did you combine midi parts for all instruments in one piano roll, in Cubase ? In FL Studio , when cannot combine parts like logic and cubase, can we ??
Great question! It took me a while to figure it out too, but for Cubase 12 you select all the instrument/MIDI tracks (whichever ones hold the actual note data), and double click to bring up the Event Editor view. All the selected tracks should be there, which will allow you to change how they are presented, in terms of colors (Velocity, Channel, or Part - etc.). Good luck!
@@RockOmellette thank you for telling , oh just let me try to find that in fl studio
Good luck! I'd never used FL Studio, so would love to know if you can figure it out!
This is one of my favorite pieces of all time. Ive listened to many versions & they're all wonderful. But this, with the midi track is fascinating to watch & I actually enjoyed picking out all the different voices. It's quite the masterpiece, & has quite an interesting history as well. For example, the beautiful high note was actually a mistaken copy of the original version, but was so lovely, they left it in. The original version is different, but still beautiful, although I do love the pure, lovely single high voice floating effortlessly like an angel above the gorgeous supporting vocals. Such a rich, ethereal, beautiful piece of work. Thank you for sharing your version of this remarkable piece of work in its entirety.
You're right! I linked to a video from the Early Music Sources channel in my description that goes into detail about that very history. It's fascinating, honestly -- all due to an accidental transcription error, most likely by none other than Mendelssohn himself. Thanks for listening! :-)
Nonsense
Sorry you feel that way! I hope there's something else here that you like! :-)
Neptune is a beautiful work, congratulations on your work, greetings from Brazil
Thank you so much for listening! Love to see people from all over the world enjoying classical music! :-)
Great! Sounds just like the original! I did enjoy your interpretation of the tempo, steady and thoughtful. I think too many organists rush through many parts of this....
Thank you! The choices I've made are inspired not only by recordings of Karl Richter and Marie Claire Alain, as mentioned in the description, but also my very first piano teacher was also an organist for a church with a tremendous Casavante organ, and we'd talked about this piece years ago, and how it's as much theatrical as it is musical. I also think a lot of organists view this piece as the organ equivalent to "Stairway to Heaven" -- everyone knows it and asks for it, so some get tired of playing it. And, since it's not terribly difficult for even an average performer, they can blaze through it. But I love it! It's not perfect, but it's fun! Thanks again for listening!!!
I’d be interested in seeing a comparison between this type of mockup vs Noteperformer
Interesting! I'm not familiar with that software at all -- I mean, I've heard of it but I've never used it, ever. Not sure if anyone has tried to perform this piece with it. If you have a link, please share! :-)
@@RockOmellette ua-cam.com/video/7ZuifUTOdcU/v-deo.htmlsi=03jj8nDL8TEWcmR2 Ended up finding a full version but it’s using noteperformer 3 and not noteperformer 4.

This is a fantastic work. Kudos, for pulling it off so well. I hope you make some tutorials on making realistic sounding MIDI orchestral programming. Also, subscribing. :)

This is awesome! Impressive achievement <3
Thanks a lot!!! Sincerely appreciate the time you took to listen and provide feedback. I hope I can continue to provide more for you to enjoy! :-)
We're done now! also, can you please make downloadable files for all 7 movements?
Hi there, and thanks for listening! At this time, I'm not releasing the Cubase Project Files for any of my performances, for two reasons: one, they aren't straight MIDI files, so unless you have Cubase 12 Pro, and all the sample libraries I've collected over the years, they really won't help you. Secondly, my long term plan is to continue to refine these performances as my skills and software improve, so there's going to be subsequent versions of these in the years to come. I have considered releasing pure MIDI mixdowns for others to play with as a membership perk in the future, but I'm nowhere close to being able to set that up yet. Soon though, I hope! Thanks again for listening, and I hope you stick around for more! A Halloween special is next, followed by the first in what I hope will be a collection of some of the greatest symphonies ever written!
Hi, sir do you sell midi? I would like to purchase some midi
Hi there! Sorry, but I don't sell anything related to these performances, nor do I work with, or render out a plain MIDI file to create them. All my work is done within Cubase, using MIDI to control virtual instruments, so even if I did offer the project file, it wouldn't help anyone without all the libraries I have accumulated over the years. Thanks for listening, though! Hopefully you're inspired to create your own performances!

1:53 My favourite part.
My favorite part is about a minute later, when the French Horns come in with the counter-melody at triple forte! Thanks for listening! :-)
hello! I would like to ask you something, if you don't mind, could you send me the midi file you used? or even, the multi tracks of each instrument separated of those virtual instruments you used? I would like to hear each of them individually. If you don't mind, of course. I really value your work.
Hello there! First, let me thank you for the kind words! I appreciate your feedback, and hope you find other pieces to your liking, as well! As for the midi file, I don't use a straight .mid file, but rather my own Cubase project, where I record each instrument by hand, editing the controller parameters as needed. So, unless you have Cubase 12 pro, and the libraries I also have (the list is in the description), it won't really work for you. As for releasing the individual tracks in a rendered state, that's something I'd consider in the future, but at this time I'm afraid I can't. There's a possibility that in the near future I'll do some shorts and tutorial videos where you will hear excerpts of various pieces as examples, but fully rendered individual tracks won't be released at this time, I'm sorry!
If we could see the piano roll it would be awesome. Great work on this.
Hello there! First off, thanks for listening - I appreciate the very kind words! As for the piano roll, that combined track view is as close as I can come to it in Cubase. What you see there are each note, color-coded by instrument group. Woodwinds are orange, Brass are yellow, percussion light blue, strings green (darker for sections, lighter for solo), and harp is pink. Were you asking for the keyboard alongside that track crawl? I've edited it out as I find it's distracting to look at while the crawl goes by.
