Finding Joy in Simple Living - Grocery Haul and From Scratch Cooking
This week we I will be showing you the everyday beauty that surrounds our life on our homestead. We will be making 2 different types of farmhouse cheeses, I will be showing you a small grocery haul, we will be using up some rhubarb to make muffins and I will be cooking a pasta soup that utilizes the cheeses I made.
Soaked Muffin Recipe + ( add rhubarb and cinnamon for this flavour profile)
ua-cam.com/video/fsIUYJT_EzY/v-deo.htmlsi=k_H73eYlRZntS7Pz
Quick Mozzarella
1 gallon of milk
1 1/2 teaspoons of citric acid
1/4 teaspoon of rennet
Bring the milk for 55F, add the citric acid mix in 1/4 cup of water. Stir it in and continue warming the milk to around 88F. Add the rennet in a 1/4 cup of water. Stir gently, turn off the heat and wait 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, break up the curds and turn the heat back up. Stir occasionally until mozzarella can be pulled. Stretch it on the back of the spoon or with your hands until the mozzarella no longer breaks when stretched and looks shiny and smooth.
Cottage Cheese
Place1 gallon of whole milk into the instant pot or on the stove and warm to 180F. If using the instant pot, hit the yogurt function until it reads boil. Once the milk is at temperature, stir in 1/2 cup of vinegar. Let it sit for 30 minutes. Strain out the whey and let the curds drain in cheese cloth for an hour or two. Add 1 teaspoon of salt to the curds, mix together and store in a container. To make it a creamy consistency like store-bought cottage cheese, add cream or milk to the curds before serving.
Pasta Soup
1 diced onion
4 cloves of garlic crushed
1 jar of tomato sauce
2 tbsp of tomato sauce
1 tablespoon of dried basil
2 tablespoons of sugar, maple syrup or honey
Pasta noodles of your choice
8 cups of bone broth
3 cups of chopped spinach
2 lbs of ground beef
In a large pot, sauté diced onion and garlic in oil. Add the ground beef and cook until no longer pink. Add the tomato sauce, the basil, the tomato paste, the sugar, the bone broth and salt to taste. Once it comes to a boil add your pasta and simmer until the pasta is cooked, remembering to stir so the pasta does not stick. Add spinach and cook until wilted. Serve pasta with ricotta ( or cottage cheese) and mozzarella.

Ha, and it all ends up in the wash if you're not careful...I may have accidentally sent some pocket eggs through the washer & dryer...only once
On the rare occasion mine have gotten out they come to the house first, thankfully. I always give them treats like leftover steak chunks or similar, I think that's what motivates them to come up, full circle.
putting mittens on babies IS a discipline, a self giving and traumatic experience for all involved :) God bless you all!
I hope you are doing well.
Hoping and praying you’re doing better! 🙏✝️ Miss your videos but glad you’re taking care of YOU. ❤
Thank you kindly for sharing. I have been buying bulk food for awhile but currently creating personalized templates for ease of process & I am creating courses to teach. It helps to see what others are doing for a well rounded creation.
i had good Catholic Nun's at Catholic school i am 77 yeas old
The pasta and shrimp look wonderful 😊
You have the recipe for the maple pie. I haven’t had it in years
Bonjour from Northeast Ontario. 👋🏼
I love leftovers food making it for lunches. Always better the next day for some reason 😂. Thank you about the laundry reminded me on doing bedding. My clothes light out of commission. Hoping next year we will have it.
I just found your channel! I love it!!!! Thank u for sharing!!!
It is so nice to finally find a traditional homemaking channel that is Catholic!! Thank you so much for this, it is so helpful as a new mom.
Where'd y'all go??
I had to take some time off due to health issues. I’m hoping to be back soon.
Hi Justine, I pray you are doing better. I have missed your great videos. I pray you will be able to return soon. Love to the family. Be healed my friend.
Thank you! I’m hoping to be able to put some content together soon.
Absolutely love your channel! Your farm name caught my eye as I Love the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and our farm is Fiat Farm! Traditional Catholic mom of 8 in MI trying my best to homestead and homeschool my children and get them to Heaven! Our families are so similar, I even have the same baby carrier and dog. You’re doing such an amazing job raising your family and they are so very blessed to have a loving faithful mother like you. God Bless you!
Thank you. I’m so glad to have you here! ☺️
No lamb
Yes, it’s not for everyone
I haven't seen a new video for over a month. I hope everything is ok at your place. Maybe just a busy summer like mine! I enjoy the videos I have watched and am not complaining, just a little worried. God bless.
Thank you for checking in! I posted an update last week in the community tab. I’ve had some health issues and have had to step back but I’m hoping to be back soon.
That's so nice that you took the time to reply! I hope you're feeling better and all is well. I'll add you to my prayer list. It's so hard to take care of yourself when you have children to care for too.
Just subscribed, great video! New to Catholicism and really enjoying this journey. Its true, I feel my day is not so great when I dont dress up. I also like to dress up even if i dont have plans to leave the house. Blessings, Daisy 🩷
