The Pokemon Yellow Legacy Experience
There's heavy nostalgia associated with Pokemon's first generation. Gamefreak knows it too. Unfortunately, there isn't much reason to go back and play these old classics. But what if there was a definitive way to enjoy RBY? That's what we're here to explore.

The Beauty Of Harvest Moon: Friends Of Mineral Town
Переглядів 12 тис.Місяць тому
Harvest Moon used to be a big name in the industry. Though it's popularity is but a shadow of it's former self, one can't deny the inspiration it had towards modern farming games, like Stardew Valley. Today, I explore one their more popular titles and explain why I find it to be a great experience despite the age. Patreon: www.patreon.com/TheComboist Ko-Fi: ko-fi.com/the_comboist Business Inqui...
Why Castlevania Is Still Worth Playing (Even Today)

The NES is home to many great classics, most of which are known to be hard. Castlevania remains as an incredibly fun game despite its shortcomings on level design. Here's why. I want to play it but the filter on it is ugly Blurry greenish
I suggest try tales of two towns
What HM/SOS game was played during 6:06?
Something important not mentioned, type matchups have been nerfed compared to the mainline games. A supereffective hit only boosts damage by 40% and a resisted hit only reduces damage by 30%, and double weakness/resistance is not a thing. In other words, don't worry to much if you're a Chikorita going into a volcano or a Mudkip going into a jungle, your disadvantage is a lot less than it would be in a mainline game. STAB is still a 50% boost by the way!
A very important tip! I had forgotten about that. Thanks
I'd murder to have rival events back actually. Especially rival kids like in Animal Parade.
Its the small things that add life to a game
Friends of Mineral Town was my first Harvest Moon game and I remember being addicted to it as a kid. I never really played much of the other games except for DS where I worked towards getting a basement that couldn't be destroyed, got the gemstone needed so I could grow pineapples in my basement year round and then proceeded to not only turn my basement into a pineapple farm but worked towards levelling up my pineapples so I was getting filthy rich off of growing pineapples regardless of the time of year. One hell of a ride to end up there!
I don't know if it's just bad (or good, depending on who's reading) luck but I somehow ALWAYS end up overleveled in this game even if I don't grind like, AT ALL. I personally prefer not to use the Café until postgame or else the main story just becomes way too easy. Are there any difficulty hack ROMs like in the main series games? I really love this game but lately after playing through so many challening games it's really hard for me to play anything that doesn't kick my ass. I do remember this game being difficult for me as a kid, my characters would overdose on Revive Seeds, while nowadays I pretty much stay with the same 4 I always carry in my bag since the early game. I did play through the special episodes recently and I feel that they have JUST the right difficulty for me, I absolutely loved them! (Even if the boss in SE4 was pretty unfair, I appreciate how it made me actually use my brain.)
As a kid, we struggle through these games. Now, we simply breeze through them. I can very much relate to that. Especially because I can only play Baldurs Gate 3 on Honor Mode. If your looking for something more . . . "Difficult" I can recommend the Explorers of Heaven rom hack.
Just started play Explorer of Sky and I’M LOVING IT! The fact I can play as my BOI again Treecko is amazing ms yes it’s make it harder as a grass type but I got a Piplup as my partner to save me and it’s a fun challenge
Glad to hear it. Its always a fun game to play through. Once you beat it and want more challenge, I recommend the Explorers of Heaven rom hack.
You forgot to mention More Friends of Mineral Town; the girl version.
Speak for yourself i keep coming back to g/r/b/y over fr/lg and lets go time and time again
What a true gamer. I'm not worthy.
@ lol if that is what you understood from the comment whatever
Oh, I see. Still, I think its cool that you go back and replay those games. More power to you, my guy.
I remember finding it hard to progress my farm and never managed to get to the purple heart with bachelors so I would just give up every time I attempted to play MFOMT lol. Stamina runs out annoyingly fast which made reaching lower levels in the cave difficult, earning enough money to buy a decent amount of animals takes forever, shit gets ridiculously grindy and quickly becomes less enjoyable. I tried cheats but they never worked lmaooo very frustrating game overall.
It's definitely one of those where you need to know what to do!
been a huge harvest moon fan since I was a kid!! I remember playing 3 games (friends in mineral town and eventually got into playing the girl version later on, hero of leaf valley and i think there's another one for the psp?). I admittedly didnt play it "properly" (aka, never making it past the first year of spring and didnt get married), as i was just running around doing stuff and never taking it seriously up until like a few years ago when I decided to replay them haha (for those curious, in MFoMT; I married Gray (aka best boy next to Cliff. Fight me.) And for Hero of Leaf Valley, I married Katie (also best girl. Alice is a close second I guess)) I still hold very fond memories of them and i'm so glad people are talking about it T v T!!
I'm real glad to read about peoples memories with this game. I, myself, never played it so it's nice to hear these accounts.
This game is better than fire red, the gyms, the distribution of wild pokemon, the level curve, the learn sets, it's just a more cool experience overall.
Very much agreed. This ron hack is an amazing gen 1 experience and I can't recommend it enough.
I didn't notice you being a smaller channel until half-way through my watch. The quality was really good in this video! Keep it up. Sub'd and liked :D Only suggestion I'd like to leave is to include either a list of songs you use through the video in the description, or a link to a list music you use throughout your videos. Great way to credit the song creators and help viewers find songs they enjoy throughout your videos.
Thank you! I appreciate that. Y'know, I think I will leave a list of songs. Before I did but I just eventually didn't. Considering you talked about it, I'm sure others feel the same. Thanks again.
Good video but I wouldn't have stretched the gameplay like that
Thanks. I'm still trying to find a good balance between gameplay and pacing. Hopefully the next video ought to do it better.
@@TheComboist Not the pacing - you have the video stretched so it looks like it's being played on a game boy advance
Ahh, I see. I figured it be easier if the aspect ratio was like that. But I think I'll try not having it altered for the next video.
@@TheComboist It definitly imrpoves the look of the game when it's at it's original aspect ratio, I found this video a little hard to watch because of it.
@@TheComboist To be fair as children, I think we all liked playing in GBA wide mode for some reason :D
been playing TSP's Emerald Legacy and its amazing, this ones up next! Yellow was my first Pokemon game ever
It felt great to experience Gen 1 again. Blue was my first game so it went full circle for me. I've been excited for Emerald Legacy so can't wish to play that one.
loving this!
Thank you! Hopefully it keeps your attention haha.
Castlevania 1 was a near perfectly designed game right out the gate. Many of its sequels wish they were as well tuned. My reccomendation for newcomers is that Holy Water is best friend. Use it to kill enemies and break candles, and you'll have the 3x multiplier in no time. There are situations where other sub weapons are more useful, but until you know where the Holy Waters are kept, you're better off just holding onto it.
Left u a likey poo
I appreciate the like!
linking is a broken feature of this game, being able to use a move like sing to put them to sleep and then use doubleslap to obliterate them lolll
Its like chewing 5gum when you link moves.
Happy New Year everyone! First video of 2025 and it's another long one. Next up, I return to Castlevania with Harmony of Dissonance. After that? A big one with the Golden Sun duology. That's going to take some because there's a lot to talk about. But believe me, you best look forward to it!
4:40 I can't be the only one who can spot where the stair is just by looking. It's spot always looks bit darker.
I wish more people talked about the DS and GBA Harvest Moon games, they’re some of my favorite games of all time yet unfortunately so niche
…BRO I ASKED CHATGPT WHO THE PEOPLE ON BLADE’S HIT LIST/REVENGE LIST IS, AND IT SENT ME THIS SAYING “This might help”, LMAOO
I love Stardew Valley, but I still keep an old save of HM: MFoMT and Rune Factory 3 and I revisit those games just for the pure nostalgia. HM is for the pure wholesome casual town life and RF3 for fighting bosses and dealing 5k damage by casting water beams from your watering can which has +180 magic attack for some reason.
Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town!
As beautiful as emulators are, playing the real game on a physical GBA is a feeling that’s hard to beat
Kinstones...
Kinstones.
I like rival marriage at old harvest moon or SoS game, it's make other characters from town feel "alive", i hope they can bring it back for future game, just make rival can't marriage before you married, especially because at a lof Harvest moon or SoS game, you cant divorce, so that's not much loss from that. Rival marriage at old harvest moon game (BTN) also very hard to trigger, they have specific requirements (date, location, and girl heart) for it to happen, to the point, have your rival getting married is harder than your character try getting married😅
It is funny that the requirements for those to trigger are a bit out there. But I do like the idea of these events. If I'm gonna have a fictional town, I want more things happening in it.
FOMT was the first farming sim I ever played. A lot of happy memories playing this gem. I played HM: DS after that but for some reason, it just never clicked for me like FOMT did.
Seems to be a common sentiment regarding DS. Perhaps FOMT really does hit different.
Shipping item in chicken coop is save more time than on the field especially if you mining until the last minute before zack come. If you play on emulator you can preserve stamina and pinpoint which stone contain valuable ore and where stairs by quick saving
Fomt, btn, 64 ❤🎉
The remake is pure shit. Original is way better
Hmm, I see. Heard the remake was decent enough but I never did play it.
I definitely had a parasocial relationship with Gray growing up
Always that one character we get attached to.
Mineral Town and Save the Homeland was my childhood. Those were the few games my religious parents would deem "not demonic." continued to play it till the psp/ds era. I spent a lot of time on their experimental futuristic harvest moon called innocent life and the fishing focused river king too. but Rune factory definitely was the best next gen harvest moon at the time. i still enjoy the new ones in the genre on pc like harvestella, rune factory pc ports, stardew, staxel and am eagerly waiting for mistria to be out of early access.
Its looking good for the future of farming games. Rune Factory is something I ought to cover in the future when I can.
I always save mining for winter when no crops grow
A sound plan for the winter. Mining and gifting
I wouldnt be able to learn English without FoMT/MFoMT... somehow i know how to English after playing this game during my childhood..
Thats great to hear that a game could help you learn another language. Glad for you.
Ahhh yes, my childhood handheld game, i still remember how tedious the process to marry H.Goddesses, the worst part is, she didn't even live with me, yet get preggo for some reason, 😂😂😂 I lost count on how many times i replay this game, solely for marrying each of the girls, gotta say, ellie is my fav... 10/10 won't marry H.Goddesses again...
Sometimes hard work isn't fully rewarded. : (
love this version than the back to nature one
My absolute childhood. The music and graphics are so lovely and I always come back to it from time to time, even though I never get ultra far. Harvest Moon DS is very similar to this, but with so much more content and definitely worth trying out!
It be great to come back to this series for another video. I'm sure it be fun fo see how things change with another title.
I like the PS version better 😂 i dont know how much time i had spent with Harvest moon
Sometimes it's fun to wonder how many hours we've actually accrued playing our favorites.
The OG farming sim i play as a kid. And now we have so many game inspired by that game. Like "sakuna of rice and ruin" i kind like how this genre can be fantasy farming with god and mythical creature or cozy daily life as a farmer.
There's infinite possibilities with the farming genre. That's what makes it so open for a general audience.
well i switch to rune facotry 1 to 4
i remember buying this for my gba advance.
Im not speedrunner, but I loved to marry Karen ASAP. Shes expensive, and likes Wine. That means, farm, got to mines and get minerals to sell. The beauty is that inside the mines, time stops. The buy the basket first, and take it to mine. Then mine until tired and spend one hour on the hot springs to recover. Do that until about 4am, then recover stamina e run to arrive on your bed before 6am (usually, 5:50am. Yes, I slept about 10 minutes per day) If you dont recover stamina before sleeping, you will oversleep and lose time. With that, I got a stupid amount of money soon. I did another trick involving pinapples, I but I'll stop here
Farmers when they discover their infinite money glitch.
I played Back to Nature in the 2000's, man, what game! Every villager is so good, I love them.
The characters really do help build up the experience since you're always going to see them.
Best game in the series. Stardew Valley is a better game but Friends of Mineral Town is still worth playing.
Agreed. There's still something to enjoy about the GBA classic!
Only millenials prefer Harvest Moon. They have thing for nostalgia
Well, I could see that. But the series does have it's merits. Though these days the series is certainly just there.
In Indonesia, gen alpha wouldn't know how cherished this game is for boomer to gen Z. I was playing this game when I was like 3 months old. Yes still a baby, it's fun and now it's felt nostalgia playing it again if I wanted to 🥲 Edit: if you play ps1 version, the MC is actually has reason instead of lost kid founded by old man farmer. We were his grandkid and got separate so the grandpa say why not having fun with me and my farm instead? Mc also has childhood crush (depend on which girl you want to date with) and when we bout to go home, the girl asked will you coming back? Now that's gentleman a true storytelling unlike the GBA 😂
Thats certainly is the gentleman way.
Cutting grass is a waste of stamina, its better if you just take and throw them since it doesnt use stamina, the only downside is the time wasted
Thats certainly a good point. I do like the feeling of cutting lawn at once haha.
@TheComboist i also think that small stones should be kept instead of destroyed since it can be used as a fence and or decorations
Nothing like a Zen Garden to keep the farm appeal.
11:45 too relatable :(
