Playing My FIRST Fire Emblem (Path Of Radiance Retrospective)
2097 Cassandra Camp
This game made me cry like heavy raining
I just think the character designs are awful and boring. Nothing like a classic final fantasy
I recommend the PC version as well. I played through the Ys games in release order, so when it came time for me to play the Napishtim engine games, I played them in the order of Napishtim, Felghana, and Origin. By doing that, I was able to appreciate Napishtim more than most because it laid out the groundwork for an awesome combat system that was perfected in Origin. Felghana is definitely the most challenging when it comes to boss fights though. It's too bad you didn't really care for this one because I consider it to be one of the more underrated Ys games. Next up is Ys Seven! Funny how the number is typed out for that entry instead of using a Roman numeral. lol
I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more if it had more content + I could fast travel. I wouldn't say it's bad, just very mid
Interesting list, there are games here that I've never heard of before, I also like to see differing opinions about these RPGs than whatever the trend on the internet is, very refreshing 👍🏼
Hope you discovered a few gems!
I totally agree, Ys 6 is one of the least remarkable games in the series. I barely even remember it - your video was showing stuff that I couldn't even recall. And just as a heads up, Ys 7 has many of the same problems. It was also the first game on its engine (the same one being used today) and feels very clunky compared to its successors.
I've been playing 7, and I tend to agree
Will you play Ys X on release? It takes place after Ys 2 in the timeline.
No, I'm playing the series in order. Currently on Ys Seven
Unfortunately, combat is broken by the speed stat bug - the speed stat is totally ignored, meaning turn order is basically randomized
That explains a lot.
dwamn yall southern
Indeed. I recently replayed this and my biggest problem were the camera angles on bosses (the few that were there - this game lacked bosses + content) and how you had to jump slash them, and jump slashing being super awkward. As for difficulty Ernst was insane but the others were pretty standard. I played Origins before this, which is 100000000000x times better in every way with a good dark story and fantastic boss fights, so my view as rather tainted.
Lack of content for sure!
I can't wait till you get to Ys: 8 Lacrimosa of Dana. It's the best game imo. I think you are going to love it!
Can't wait! It's the reason I started the Ys series
I'd like to heal Scott with potion or hi potion. I hate script deaths. I'd like that It had a secret form to change the script in some remake. The only death with sense it's Minwu death. Joseph's death don't make sense too, because he supports meteor attacks during the battles, but de Stone that crush him should have break with a punch or sword slash. The party should have help him too. He could tô jump the trap os something else solution in the rolling play.
For stuff like that I think we're supposed to use our imaginations and assume there was no way Joseph could have made it
Spoilers in the third paragraph! I made Bartz my melee damage guy, Lenna my summoner/red mage (dualcasting summons is so awesome), Faris was my Dragoon/black mage, and Galuf was my time mage/barehanded. After Galuf left the party (I’m still upset about this), Krile became my dedicated white mage/time mage.
I was upset about that too! Hahah
I don't remember why I first decided to get FFV but it quickly became my second favorite in the series after FFIX.
I heard about this game at the turn of the millenium on a fansite dedicated to various JRPGs. Defenders of Oasis was mentioned but other than a sloppy review with some praise, there was nothing. I remembered the title and found a few more informations in later years. Then finally gave it a try when it was rereleased on the 3DS Virtual Console. Enjoyed this game a lot. Most frustrating part was probably getting into the bandit's hideout. On my second playthrough I missed a trigger to open the gate. So it was Open Sesame for a while.
Was always a go to FF fan growing up. A few years ago now i decided to play some of the DQ games, this was the first one i tried... It just blowed my mind in such different ways that FF couldnt do. It was nostalgic to me and id never even played them before. I cant quite put my finger on it what this series does, but this is one damn beautiful game and i feel like more general RPG lovers should get started with the series here. Maybe its the accessibility of the platforms? I think for a lot of people an RPG is a sit down with a controller on the sofa vibe, so i can see why they wouldn't like the idea of a mobile version, and the DS version just isnt viable, even to emulate and get the same experience intended. I really hope they get a console/pc port in the future...
I've been replaying DQ6 on the SNES version, and it's a treat-obviously, it's how the game was meant to be experienced. If you ever replay 5, I hope you try it on SNES (with a fan translation)
Like it more then the mobile version already.
Finally did a complete playthrough on the wonderswan version, it has some great moments especially world 3 but I'll be frank, World 4 is really bad. You can tell this is an Akitoshi Kawazu game because it straight up has shit to annoy the fuck out of you, running from suzaku and the TERRIBLE skyscraper tower map with trap rooms straight out of FF2, I'll admit the floor with nothing but stairs in it was funny and clever but the rest of the dungeon put a sour taste in my mouth. Fortunately it's only world 4 that's like that, the rest is pretty solid and not too annoying. I should mention the wonderswan version while having the saw glitch also had stat caps of 99 instead of 255. So humans are kind of mid now compared to monsters who can now see what they turn into and have a billion abilities and mutants who can hit 99 in all stats by world 2 no problem. If it wasn't for world 4 this would have been 9/10 but with world 4 it feels more like a 6/10 (it's that bad). Solid music from Uematsu as always, battle theme doesn't make you go crazy listening to it a billion times and the overworld themes are good.
I love that all videos are organized and well spoken
I can’t wait for this to come out the demo ended where it did was a tease haha
I'm surprised that people aren't using the other 3 or 4 characters in the castle, lol.
I didn't know you could, hahah. Should have explored more
@@rpg_havenshould give it a check in another play attempt or load your save before the final battle, it's 2 mages, hydromancer and a Pyromancer with wind magic, 1 Lancer that also specializes in bow and a sword user that also uses maces.
@@thatanonwholurksmoar7386 I think that's just like the original game, which is good to hear. I remember trying to figure out how to recruit characters but didn't see a way. I'll check that out today, might even stream it
@@rpg_haven something I noticed is that you can switch In and out the characters. I'm pretty sure it wasn't possible on the original or remaster. You had to let them die to pick a new unit. So you can freely swap them around as many times as you like. Thats pretty damn good
@@thatanonwholurksmoar7386 Wow, that's a huge convenience. I don't mind that change at all
Maybe it is youtube but the way the camera in battle constantly changes where it is gives me a bit of whiplash. It just cuts out rather than panning to the new location, its jarring. It reminds me of the early days of 3D graphics in the PS1 era. The game looks nice!
I've never played the original or a single saga game since they are meant to be notoriously unforgiving but if the consensus on this is good then I'll give it a go 😅
The remake has lower difficulty options if you need them
It'd be really awesome if you could give the full game some coverage. Your old videos were nice.
I'll most likely stream it, then do a video on it. Probably won't make guides since the remake includes a lot of info the original doesn't explain
For most of my life, I've written off JRPGs. From my teens to early adulthood, I've had to be really invested in the story to look past the anime stylization, and -- just to be honest -- I really dislike turn-based combat. But over the years, there have been games that have slowly shown me that I can enjoy turn-based combat, and being almost 28 now, I've grown to have an appreciation for styles and presentation that before I would have found unappealing for their fantastical designs. For the first time really, I've had to rely on the expertise of others to learn about this genre so foreign to me. All that to say, I sincerely appreciate videos like these, and the time you invested to make it.
Thank you for sharing your story. I love hearing how people got into the genre and hope the video shows you a few gems
Hey you updated the placement of Dragon Quest 5, which got me very hyped, also when I finish DQ5 for the second time I will play DQ7.
Hope you enjoy VII! It's probably the longest JRPG I've played
FFV is my all time favorite
Hell yeah
I like long game ranking videos like these. Thanks for the content
Dude your fps is fucked up The game doesn't run like that because it will be unplayable The game is a Masterpiece and you absolutely ruined it with this terrible fps Is your pc old ? Because you are definitely not running it on console
While the game looks amazing and fun, and is definitely my kind of game (I discovered it thanks to the amazing Astro Bot!!), that frame rate is absolutely DISGUSTING and should be illegal. AND it's a "remaster"/re-release!!! What is it, 15?20 fps?? Someone needs to be jailed for that. And it's an action-JRPG game, not even a turn based one!! That makes it borderline unplayable. Absolutely RANCID!! What a shame :(
The game doesn't run like that I played it to death on PS2 and it runs amazing dude I fucking loved this game in my childhood I think he is running it on an emulator and his PC is from the PS2 era 😂😂😂 I will even put a video of Rogue Galaxy on my channel just to show how it runs on PS5 & PS4
That's because of my capture card; the game runs great!
Legendia was great, don’t try that review qu33r trend
Bitchmade bats lmfao!!
FFV is the most Dragon Quest Final fantasy, and DQ is amazing so FFV is great too, you dont always need super complex story, lore and characters if the Game is good, Dragon Quest is the proof of that, being the most popular rpg series in japan, classic , simple and fun are good things too, sometimes you just want to relax , especially in today's era of cynism, we need the classic stories and believe in heroes too.
Well said!
I signed up for game informer around 2005 until 2008 and I remember a demo disc for this game came with one of the magazines.
Will you make a video on lufia 2?
Eventually
Epic 🎮
awesome list, first time viewer, really enjoyed the commentary and breath and depth of it all
Welcome!!
I really enjoy your videos, you truly know how to share your passion for JRPGs.
Every single moment of this games feels amazing and like a big "yep, this is what I came here for, this is Final Fantasy" Then VI is amazing for its presentation but very messy at many points and VII idk what the heck that is, an amazing game, sure, but an abomination graphically and way less FF than the others.
I think you're gonna like my video about VI
@@rpg_haven it's not out yet, right? can't find it
@@TheLMBLucas Correct, I should have said that hahah
All the slowdown on PC was due to it being a poor port. For people playing that game on PC - if it isn't running like you want it to, use "Special K" (they make a client which allows you to tweak resolution and graphical features beyond what games normally allow, and does it in real time. It's also free and it's small. I'm a big fan - it can make a world of difference, especially with "older" games like Berseria. You won't regret using it - just don't use it on your online games, it can be considered cheating due to the graphical tweaks it allows - you don't want that in online games.
Eh, I liked Berseria's music as much as I liked the music in any of the others. There's a few memorable songs in each of them - but the music has always been one of the aspects of the Tales games.
Most of Velvet's character growth comes from Laphicet. A lot of Eleanor's growth comes from Velvet. In some way or another, all of the characters feed off each other and develop because of it.
The only thing I didn't like about Tales of Symphonia is that the premise of the world began very basic - destined one, etc etc. Not that there's anything wrong with the story overall, but it does start kind of uninteresting - but that's how a lot of the Tales games begin, they're very black and white - at first, that is. Tales of Berseria is easily my favorite of the series. The battle system, the character interaction and plot - it's fantastic and it's gripping from the start. Zestiria is ... ok, but it's sort of shocking how much better Berseria is, because it's got a very light link to Zestiria - but it's one HELL of a game and I think it blows all the others out of the water. I guess I didn't particularly think the dungeons were bad though, and the combat is great when you actually start playing with the artes.
I appreciate hearing your thoughts. Berseria has moved up to my favorite in the series since making this video. It's got everything I want from Tales and does it all the best.
I always tell people to come into the story like it's a Saturday Morning cartoon. It think people end up appreciating the story more after that.
yknow for someone who talk a lot of shit on twt you sound like a giant pussy
Just finished DQ4 today. If I have to say how good it is, I have to compare to 3 which is the best from old trilogy(I only play 1, 2, 3, 4, 11 so far), both 3 and 4 has its own good and bad side and different gimmick, so for me 4 is at the same tier but not as great as 3. The reason for me is probably "chapter", battle theme which drop from 3 a little(I feel like it's not fit every fight and annoyed me sometimes). Overall, even if it's not better than 3 but I enjoyed 4 a lot more, another great game I don't regret buying. Since I finished 4 I'm gonna move on to 5 to see why it's so hype, I wanna know too if it's the same or better than 3.
That's fair. They are very different games
Personally I think u need to play the SNES version that's the real nostalgic version
I will someday :]
I played the PSX version for a while and it really turned me off It's the 21st century and I won't play something that looks like Mario on snes
