    It's mostly the bragging part of self promotion that Danes dislike and it becomes even worse if it takes the form of 'I did it all by myself' kind of attitude. Danes are usually supporting self promotion in situations where new tasks are being discussed and you take on responsibility for moving it along as a spearhead or positions like that. It's mostly about doing things in teams and having a coordinator more than a leader and your success depend on your status in the group in the first place. You don't get credits for a title but for showing your ability to work with the group or team. You have to earn your position and if you start out bragging, you will most likely fail because the team will withhold support and in most cases you can't do it yourself. The reality of the US American saying of "There's no I in team" is more prevalent in Denmark, or perhaps I should say the Nordic countries, than most other places.

    my father landed a job as a building engineer in a small municipality, which sparked a carreer long learning of skills. at the same time environmental law was strengthened, which meant that the municipalities as primary institution had to up their game. from being a builing engineer, he developed him self in to an expert in environmental law and practices, leading to him teach that subject at the municipality union's own trade school. a far cry from the bridge building engineer from the late 1960'ies and early 1970'ies.

    Hygge is not a secret rly. It literally translates to "Cosy"... However! where foreginers get confused is how we can/will also use "hygge" as a verb and not just an adjective, is where I think ppl cant "translate" it. You enter someones crib in US: And its very cosy inthere so you say, "oh its so cosy inhere" (åh, det er så hyggeligt herinde)... But you can also say: "I am cosy'ing atm" (Jeg hygger atm), but it jsut means "I am BEING cosy atm... So all danes and all english speaking ppl who keeps saying this shit. Clearly doesnt understand either language. Its not a unique to denmark concept. Its just the fact we use it as a verb sometimes that makes it differ from other languages. But the action/concept itself all and any race/cultures know/are doing.

      @@thejoanaalves Well to further the explanation (to not sound like a rant towards foreigners lol), Id like to point out, Its bc of the way we speak in Denmark (so its our fault, not foreigners), as you prob figured out/heard already here, we dont speak the way our grammar dictates. Which is, to me, highly "wtf?!". We should update either our grammar OR our speech. Or we risk losing the true danish language like other nations are struggling with atm.

    Three important "ingredients" are a social "safetynet" that insures that even if you loose your job, you wont loose your home and 2: universal healthcare. If you get sick and need to go to the hospital its "free" (well, payd through taxes, but you wont go bankrupt). And 3: most important: Trust. We really trust each other and our government, to do the best for the country, and Denmark also rank highest as the country with the least corruption.

      The ones who have gotten more since the 80's are the top 1%. So maybe that's where you should look for the money you believe is taken away from you unjustly in taxes. And not so much the money that go to people who actually need help.

    • @thejoanaalves
      @thejoanaalves 7 днів тому

    Cold and unfriendly??? dont buy it!. That's Swedish. The most scary serious people i ever met. Myth has is we are jovial, too direct, don't comprise on humor and consider ourselves 1% better that the rest of the world, while we have a drink too much, kinda like British without the idiot vibe😆no offence on British friends, cause we like them for the most part, instant buddies when we meet one When i see danish politics, its as if they talk as if everyone is following our every move and nobody really is unless its sports In short we tend to overestimate our own impact, a Portuguese must have noticed this

    In a parking lot they have to watch the car, for 5 minutes before they are allowed to write a ticket but sometimes the companies hire foreigners to do this job or simply dont educate their employees enough on the rules. Dont know if it's intentional to get extra money from illigal tickets or what, but I've seen it often 😞 About the restaurant prices, I think that is (partly) to promote healthy homemade cooking as food in a restaurant is usually all about the taste. Denmark has a big culture of cooking at home, and eating out is a luxury. Many fruits are hard to grow in Denmark outside of a greenery and so, many have to be imported, thats why they're not as fresh. On the other hand, we have good soil for grain and vegetables.

      Well, I guess I haven’t been very lucky with the police officers who fined me! 😂 But I didn’t know about the 5-minute rule :) I really like that perspective! Without a doubt, I’ve come to enjoy dining at home much more since I moved to Denmark :)

      @@thejoanaalves I've seen a few of your videos but seems all (at least the ones I've seen) are from CPH (Copenhagen). Now that you've been here a while, have you considered visiting other parts of the country, possibly make a video of the sights in other cities than CPH? Im sure many danes have recommendations for you with great places to see things. Also, almost every youtuber I've seen so far, making videos about Denmark, have been in CPH. It would be great to see something else too and since you live here now you could prepare better than those just visiting the country for a few days. It is a beatiful country with lots of sights and history outside CPH, after all 😉

      @ Hello! thank you so much for your thoughtful and constructive comment 🥹🥹 You’re absolutely right, and I completely agree with what you said-it makes so much sense! To be honest, I haven’t had the chance to explore many places yet, but I have visited spots like Møns Klint, where I stayed in an incredible place, and Billund to visit LEGO. I tried vlogging during those trips, but I wasn’t entirely satisfied with the results, so I decided not to publish them 🫠🫠. I really need to get past that! I’m really eager to visit Aarhus and Skagen and will do my best to document those adventures in videos :) Do you have any recommendations for places to visit? I especially love being surrounded by nature!

      @twwraistlin День тому

      @@thejoanaalves Sure, I will share my own recommendations with you. -Firstly, I will recommend taking a walk in the city of Fredericia. "Voldene", is the old fortifications in the city that you can walk on. I went there often with my parents when I was a kid. Lots of plaques and infostands to tell of the historical significance, and I remember it as a serene, peaceful and delightful place. Also lots of nature to see. -Second should be on Langeland, all down on the southern tip is a fenced in area with wild horses. You can walk inside the fenced area, see lots of nature and horses. -3rd would be either "Lille Vildmose", "Store Vildmose" or "Mols Bjerge". They are nature preserves where you can see lots of nature. I've been to "Mols Bjerge" myself, not the other two, but I've only heard good things about them. -If you get the opportunity to go to any of the smaller islands, you should take it. Many have more undisturbed nature than in Jylland or the bigger islands, personally, Im very fond of Læsø while my girlfriend loves Bornholm. -Lastly, I will recommend you to go to the beaches on the western side of Jutland to enjoy the wind blowing in from the sea and the seemingly endless stretches of sand. Popular places to get to are "Blåvand", "Henne Strand" or, a little further north, "Skallerup Klit" Im sorry I dont know of any places on either Fyn or Sjælland...born and raised in Jylland, I've mostly been to places over here.

      @@thejoanaalves Oh, 1 more recommendation to see something a little different. "Tørskind grusgrav" is a place in nature with lots of great sculptures made of stone, wood and metal. I'd forgotten all about it, untill just now 🙄
