Airfix 1/72 Bristol 192 Belvedere Full Build

When the Bristol Belvedere was announced by Airfix I was interested. I liked the look of it and sometimes it is nice to build an old kit, that I would have built terribly as a child, to see what sort of job I can make of it now. It's an Airfix Classic so you can expect some difficulties. I was wary after I saw a couple of terrible reviews but is it really that bad? The front fuselage glazing is...

Переглядів 1,9 тис.8 місяців тому
Full build of the 1999 boxing of Revell's F-117A Nighthawk. It comes with etched brass screens which I didn't fit too well. Nothing wrong with the screens, etched brass always looks so nice but I find it tricky to work with. I also had an Eduard set from which I used the cockpit parts. Apart from the brass the build went fine...no dropping anything this time. Music from Uppbeat (free for Creato...

This is my entry for the B17 Group Build hosted by Jason #ModelkitStuff. It is my first attempt at a group build which probably explains why I dropped the model twice during painting, cracked the canopy and damaged a decal. This kit was a new tool in 1988 and compared with the Airfix and Revell offerings, which I see others building, has very little internal detail. Externally though it has lot...

Beautiful
Thank you, glad you liked it.
Not to be negative, but you should realize that the weathering is massively overdone here, they built it up in clean room from brand-new clean-room parts, rolled it out and launched it in a month or so. This one looks like it was sitting out for years, and also, looks worse than the one that was sitting outside in Houston after ~50 years.
I agree, it is overdone but I find the clean white ones so boring to look at. Ideally you wouldn't look at the weathering as dirt but light and shadow. However it does venture towards dirty. I've been tempted to clean it up a bit but as I look at it now, 8ft from my computer, I think it looks amazing and is my favourite build of 2024. Ultimately I try to add some visual interest to my models because that is what I like to see but it doesn't tend to coincide with realism and I accept that lots of people are not going to like that.
@@DarkStarProjects-hw2hn It's not so much "do not like", but it's a matter of modeling what is real. BF-109s with 100 missions look very rough, a BF-109s straight from the factory are pristine. A Saturn V straight out of the VAB has been treated better than a typical show car and only degenerates in small spots at most (birds and wasp nests). Of course, it is your model, you can do it however you want.
Stunning build
Thanks, glad you liked it.
Great result!
Thank you
Nice
Thanks
Nice work!.. we have a Sherman (moulded hull) in a museum here in NZ 👍🇳🇿
Thanks, glad you liked it.
Beautiful! Nice to see Airfix make an earlier version of the Heinkel He-111; I made their He-111H-20 back in the day.
Thanks, it is a nice looking aircraft.
Always wondered why Airfix made the later production power turret He 111 instead of the much more numerous greenhouse upper gun position..?
Sorry no idea.
Was 'glass' part too short at the end? Mine was, pretty bad thing as for newly tooled model.
I got the internal glazing to fit by cutting the single pieces into separate windows. They wouldn't fit properly otherwise. The external glazed screen was fine until I accidently spilt a drop of Tamiya Extra Thin on it. Fortunately it is difficult to notice.
Very nice educational video ! I really liked it. Nice result too, well done !
Thank you! Cheers!
Great work! Really nice looking Heinkel. Greets from CPH.
Glad you like it!
Perfect. Video style I love, only comment is slow down the instructions pages a bit, and paint codes would be nice. Great way to review kits I'm interested in - no faffing about, just show what's necessary, no more. Thanks. Oh BTW, are you a Deadhead (Grateful Dead legendary Dark Star recordings)
Thanks for the comment. I'm not currently a Deadhead :-)
Very nice looking Heinkel ......lovely job 👍🏻👌🏻👏🏻
Thank you! Cheers!
Brilliant presentation - don't need to watch all the sprue cutting, gluing, paint mixing, etc., etc............... Would have liked to see paint codes though.
Glad you liked it.
Stunning work! I really like the "style" of your video, being very informative entertaining. I'm glad that I bought this kit and am eager to start it. Tom S.
Thank you. Good luck with your build.
Супер! Сьогодні куплю цю модель. Давно хотів зібрати В-17. Дякую за відео.
Glad you liked it. Good luck with your build.
How do you get black and white paint to go on a structure in a straight line? I don't understand.
I used a combination of a laser spirit level, careful masking and constant checking/rechecking that the alignment looked correct before airbrushing.
Not many builders want to tackle the black/white stripes topside and you really did them well. Overall excellent build although you forgot the swastika's on the deck fore and aft. Easy thumbs up!
Thanks, the stripes added some interest so I felt they were worth the effort.
Good looking model 👍
Thank you
Beauty! 👏🏻👍🏻👌🏻
Thank you! Cheers!
what shade of desert tan is that??? great build. I am currently building this.
xf-59 is the base colour but then I would have both lightened it a bit and darkened it a bit to provide some contrast. Good luck with your build.
@@DarkStarProjects-hw2hn thank you.

@DarkStarProjects-hw2hn you're welcome 😊 my favourite warbird, 👌🇦🇺🦘🏔
That's great, and very much the correct way to approach a Vintage Classic, instead of moaning about it. They even tell you how old the tooling is, which is really honest and to be applauded.
Thanks, I agree, Airfix are very clear about their vintage classics range.
🖐👍👍
thanks
Them seats look a bit close together, there's no legroom
That's how they're moulded. I imagine the real seats have space underneath to put your feet, like on an aircraft.
Beautiful end result. Having built it now, do you think it should be a starter kit? I thought it had quite a lot of fiddly deck and cabin fittings and that curved hull transfer looked like it was 'fun' to apply!
I found the most difficult bits to be adding the cockpit housing to the deck and getting the split between the hull blue and black sections correct. However adding the cockpit housing is mainly difficult because I was trying to get a good join line. As a starter I might not be quite so fussed. I didn't get the split between the blue/black sections of the hull correct but it still looks ok I think. So while there steps that a starter would find tricky they could still produce a decent result. I imagine having to paint it using the supplied paints and brushes and getting a good result is barely possible...although I've never tried so could be wrong..
@@DarkStarProjects-hw2hn Thanks for such a thorough reply! I know what you mean about the starter pack paints😁.
Nice to see a build of this essentially very old kit ("Vintage Classic") without all of the moaning about fit etc. that I saw on another channel. You just got on with it and the end result is stunning!
Cool, thanks!
shannon class is steered by a joystick, no wheel. ua-cam.com/video/xliJQzhrHwI/v-deo.html and the aft steering position floor should be non slip grey like the deck.
Beautiful build 😃I like your style
Thank you! 😊
Nice build
Thanks
A truly splendid job!
Thank you
A relatively simple model but you did it justice.
Thanks. It's part of the Airfix starter range, so simplified, but still builds into a nice kit.
Those arnt reverse buckets but the actual propulsion jets
@@stevebrodie2037 The jets come ready moulded in the stern piece and that step is showing that we have to add the reverser to them.
great work! I am building same kit with same paint scheme with mediocre version lol.
Good luck. The exterior is nicely detailed but I found the interior lacking in detail...however I made such a mess of the canopies you can't see anything inside mine.
Looking good.
Thanks 👍
Your post shading involves darkening the dividing lines and lightening the centers of the panels?
Yes, in general I look to darken areas that join to other areas and lighten the flat/curved planes in between. If I class a stage as "modulation" this is probably what I'm doing although it can also happen during "weathering".
What a great job well done I’m about to start the Brian Lane version myself so enjoyed your build. Well done
Thank you. It's a very nice kit, good luck with your build.
Amazing job but I feel like the final finish looks too faded/washed out. Over weathered it with one of the final steps. Constructive criticism I hope you understand :)
Not a problem, the final finish of any kit is very subjective, I don't expect my style to be liked by everyone.
This kit suffers the same problem as a lot of Jaguar kits. The Auxiliary intake doors for the engines are only open above a certain engine power setting. with the engines stopped externally they just look like another panel .
Good to know. Hopefully there will be a new kit of this aircraft soon.
I got one in my stash,a present.Have not touched it ,not my scale.
I was all for the bigger scales when I was young, so my stash contains some large items, but now I'm happier with the smaller scales even though they are a bit tougher on the eyes.
Old decals 😖🤷♂️ Nice job though 👌🏻👏🏻👍🏻
Thanks. Problem of working through a 90's stash is 90's decals that sometimes let you down but they looked ok in the end.
Great job of an old kit
Thanks. The newer 2018 tooling looks to be more detailed but this version is a decent representation of a Spitfire.
Nice Spitfire 👍
Thanks
I am just finished the Tirpitz. just some rigging ans small arms to fit. A slow process with arthritis in the thumbs. With out a full set of photo etch parts It really is a boat shaped plastic blob. But it was brilliant back in the 1970's and way ahead of the competition. Bismark now that I recall was the first plastic kit I built in the 1960's. I was possibly 5 years old. My father had bought it and was so slow in building it, the real thing would have been built faster. I took it to my room and finished it off in a few hours. It looked great to me and I think he was impressed as he didn't give out to me.
The kit is not the most detailed but I was pleased when I found it in my stash. I'd forgotten I'd bought it and the King George V, which I keep intending to build but get sidetracked onto something else. I agree they do need the etched brass but it makes for a tricky and expensive build so I keep it to a minimum.
Good kit to have. I had my chances to get one of those but, Airfix of that time had a habit of making me think twice about purchasing.
this kit was a significant improvement in moulding quality for Airfix at that time but it still has its issues
@@DarkStarProjects-hw2hn yes. Very much in keeping with it’s reputation.
Wow… this looks awesome… amazing detail! I think I’m gonna get a 1/32 scale model fighter. Nice job👍😎
thanks
I've yet to 'build' the courage to start mine ... and I have already ordered the Alan Deere's kitset from them!
It's can be difficult to get started. You want to do a kit justice but sometimes you feel you need more experience. I'm not happy with mine now, I think I could do a better job but at the time I did the best I could. It's a learning process so I tend to think "just build it" and I'll learn something now and I can always do another one later.
Good work sir 👍
Thanks 👍
Really great job! The Kotare model is a thing of beauty. Very accurate and fantastically engineered. No better Spitfire model out there.
I agree, I look forward to their future releases.
I would buy this just of the box art. Fantastic build. I wonder how this compares to the cheaper Revell version?
Having watched some Revell builds it looks like the end result in both cases is similar. Both kits lack main engine detail. The Revell version, compared to mine, does seem to be more accurate around the service module however I understand the most recent Airfix release has improved this area. I had this particular Airfix version in my stash, bought from Woolworths for £10 20+ years ago. If buying again I'd look for whichever was on special offer, unless Airfix released one in any of the 1970's boxes and I'd be all over that.
@@DarkStarProjects-hw2hn The Revell is about £35 so I recon it's a deal at that price. It seems they do a 1/96th scale version for £130 too, it's rather large lol. I can't find a supplier of the Airfix one? Thanks of the reply :)
@@RichardsModellingAdventures I built the 1/96 Revell version to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11- it's certainly impressive when complete! I'd built the 1/144 Airfix kit at the time of the moon landings, but nowhere near the same standard as yours.
Looks great! How was the fit?
In general it's ok. Probably not up to modern standards but nothing provided any real difficulty.
@@DarkStarProjects-hw2hn Thanks.
