Welcome back to Crying In My Car, a podcast for teachers! Join our hosts Devin Siebold and James Yon as they ask the question, what are these older teachers' problems with the new guys? We also have a secret technique that teachers can use to destroy the competition on field day. Finally how did a couple of teachers just get cheated out of 2,000 bucks just because the school board didn't send out an email?
We all hope for a warm reception whenever we start a new job, unfortunately not all veteran teachers are as welcoming to new teachers as others. We’ve had plenty of experience with this, but luckily they're not all bad stories, for every crotchety educator there is an obi wan esque teacher ready to share their lessons and stories. However, it's more funny to talk about the former rather than the latter right?
We all know about field day right? We look forward to it every year, and let us tell you what, those kids aren't ready for the competition. Devin shares a hilarious story on how he used underhanded tactics to sweep the competition. Tune in to find out exactly how he did it and maybe you can use it in your next field day.
Now us teachers don’t get enough credit and sometimes we really need some good news. Well one school district gave a whopping 2,000 dollar bonus to any teachers who returned to their classroom in the fall! Which is awesome news, however they neglected to let anyone know, therefore taking away any initiative to actually come back in the fall. We don't know about you but we feel like writing an email would have been a pretty decent idea to make this initiative work.

I am not a teacher... however I love your podcasts! You 2 are my favorites!!
Love your topics and presentation!
I am LOVING Devin's No Limit shirt. I literally have not thought about that label since 1999.
My parents used the early release days to make a little extra cash. We have a van that can hold a lot of people, and because my parent only have to pick me and my brother up. They would tell people that they could pick up there child up for a small fee, and a lot of people said yes! They were able to make about $50-$70 a WEEK!!
I appreciate all these podcasts! ❤
Maybe I’m just in a special situation, but I teach middle school science and won’t have to change unless standards are updated. I had never heard of preps or teaching something new each year! I’d go crazy!
where’s the new episode 👀
Love you guys! Great podcast! ❤❤❤
Not a teacher, but cursive was a life saver for me. I get writer's cramps often and cursive allows me to write far more before it kicks in. The cramps normally occur after a few sentences of print but I can write several paragraphs in cursive before needing a break.
IDK i think y'all a dead wrong idk why'd you'd think you can do personal things because it happens at basically every workplace in the world
I went to school in the seventies and eighties . This is not a big deal folks. Trust me.
Lame teachers made field a single day instead of the whole year and view it as “a disruption to the learning” and think they need to corral the kids. Let. kids. Run.
My teachers love field day because they are overworked all the time and they need a break
Shut up
Best field day i remember was like 6th grade. The school legitimately paid a DJ to set up a Karaoke booth. For like an hour lots of kids including me looked over the book of songs that were available and no one went with it. And then this kid named Richie Lyons got up there and he smoked Headstrong by Trapt. I watched the whole thing. After his performance everyone was laughing at him and he took a stance and looked them all in the face and said "well at least i wasn't scared to try it" Ive been taking my shots everytime since then. That kid inspired me
For our school they just had separate stations and if you wanted to do that activity you would wait in line. Made it so the teachers only had to worry about their event and not corralling the kids.
Exhausting. It's exhausting
You shouldn't be touching any kids and they shouldn't be touching you...
this is one of the reasons there aren’t good teachers anymore
Disrupts learning huh ….. and still no financial literacy or TRUE history … but carry on
Where in Maryland?
Shut up

It shows a connection to his students and that's how you teach kids. They would rather he describe proper fisting techniques to them then be a relatable teacher
No that's not how you teach kids.
@@brendanbloomberg3283 Yeah, I'm sure that YOU, the person with no teaching experience or a degree in teaching, would know the "correct way" to teach children.
@shellshockedbros4458 what are Freddie's credentials? What are your credentials?
I actually enjoy teaching summer school. I teach prek 🍏
You can’t do personal things on the clock? Guy took his hair down that’s like saying I can’t take a dump at work. Weird world we’re living in.
I run a company, if I can’t afford to pay my employees to take shits every once in a while; i probably shouldn’t be in business
yea the second dude made an awful take. human beings will interact with each other, and the treatment of teachers like this is why there’s an educator shortage in this country anyway.
Yeah but it's not taking a dump though. It's having students help him with his chore "he forgot the night before"
@@brendanbloomberg3283 I see where you are coming from fs. But I think making sure your kid is respectful and well rounded is the parents job. However the parents think it’s the teachers job. It sounds like this teacher is helping the kids get more cultural experience, and they offered. Lots of nuance
2k a year is pennies on the dollar. Im good at my job and asked for a 20k per year raise. I dont intend on my future wife to work nor my future kids to go to a public school. If its funded by the govt, it doesnt work
It's not nothing. Maybe in your ivory tower, but to a lot of regular people, it's something
If it came up organically and the children were interested/curious i could see how its okay. But outsourcing your time to children?
Nah that isn't what I send my students to school for. Keep it in the books. I don't need my kids being even a 10th that personal with a teacher. He is there to educate not too become friends or anything else.
@@xXAvaciiXx oh please. your kids are human beings, and if they develop a connection with a teacher in this day and age, you should be thankful for that.
@significantgumption a connection and this type of behavior are completely different. Teachers are ment for 1 thing in my children's life.....education
@@xXAvaciiXx once again, you are expecting them to be robots. if you had any idea about the state of teaching jobs in this country, you would be grateful to have a teacher that even cares about your kids.
@@xXAvaciiXx Very narrow minded view lol. I agree there are certain boundaries that shouldn't be crossed but their sole purpose is not educate for many kids
I’d rather my kid do that than endure hours of gender education.

The field day story reminds me of when I taught 5th grade they told me that once the sub ripped his pants and underwear bending down and mooned the whole class😂. I didnt see it but I dont know how they could think to make that up. Does anybody else have funny teacher mooning stories?
Can you imagine you hear "mustard on tha beat ho" And then Yon's wife runs down the ramp at you
Horrible female HR .... everywhere
our school district emailed every employee the board minutes from any board meetings and if it needed to be private they still sent one out stating they had a meeting
10 Mins before dismissal there done with the day. It’s not at all appropriate!!
I think 2000 dollars is not worth it my mental health and the way I’m treated as an educator was why I left. Tbh that’s exactly why I left per say

The most preps I've ever had was 9. I teach a world language, so I have a guaranteed 4 prep minimum (level 1, 2, 3, AP). I also have a World History class to round out my schedule. When I first started at my current school, they offered a language major so the students were able to take a language class AND a culture class (level 1 = culture and geography, level 2 = Japanese history, level 3 = Japanese literature, level 4 = Japanese government and economics). Creating the culture classes was tough, but they ended up being a lot of fun (once they were put together). Now I just have the 4 levels and World History, so I have a regular 5 prep schedule. I can't imagine only having 1 subject to prepare for!!!
The biggest problem with the braiding issue isn't that he wasn't teaching, but that he live streamed it. You should never be posting videos of your students publicly. That is wildly inappropriate and it's good he was fired for it.
I commute one county north because the pay is better.
So when I taught in Thailand, most schools had a Sports Day- which I assumed would be like Field Day. Absolutely 100% not the case- for the most part teachers were not involved and it was run entirely by the students. The best way I could describe it was like a condensed version of the Olympics opening and closing ceremonies with basketball, soccer, volleyball and table tennis- the students were split into teams and if you weren't participating in a sport you could be part of the cheer squad or just sit and watch from the stands (and get a day off going to class). One year that I went, for some reason (never addressed, no one on the faculty knew) they had a couple of students just randomly dressed in inflatable T-Rex costumes for the opening skit- but they still had to go to morning assembly and no one on the faculty could stop chuckling seeing them listening to announcements dressed as dinosaurs 🤣
Devin born and raised in Wisconsin and really besides the cheese the states sucks and nice people what state where you in?
Another issue affecting education: School taxes and Lottery proceeds "for schools" but teachers STILL pay for class supplies out of THEIR own pockets. "ADMIN THEFT" due to overpaid admin?
Crazy how much trust we put into the school system which are supposed to EDUCATE and yet it’s run by the most idiotic people we have!
Maybe if the teachers taught math and reading they'd be more secure in their employment
Joe did hire and arm 80 thousand teachers! he hired 80 thousand Federal IRS Agents and Armed them!
They should be transparent with the public and propose a tax increase to cover the salaries of the teachers.
Where does the tax payers money go in California? Im in Massachusetts aka taxachusetts but you all pay alot too! Maybe ask, follow the money trail because it seems corrupt.
The American education system is TRASH. Way too many teachers are straight up stupid. Let the states decide who is teaching our children. Mentally ill grown men wearing women's clothes reading to kids is sick.
