    Thank you so much! You have covered it all. Had Alzheimer’s symptoms 2 years before Parkinson’s. Challenging. Last doctor’s visit bloodwork came back with low thyroid. Parkinson’s tires you out enough. Having trouble with stepping off curb. Started crying first time husband helped me step down. I can see the distance down but I guess my diseases makes me feel like I am stepping down in a deep hole. Didn’t have help going out of dining room at Cracker Barrel just going to restroom no problem I thought but there was a divider separating it from rest of restaurant. It was a gold medal strip. I was upset seeing it. What to do? Well after stopping for a minute at least I picked up my “knees” to go over it! It was overwhelming to me. Not going anywhere without help! Thanks again for video. Really have problems with gait.

    I have a mild brain injury, if I've been in a supermarket I feel so dizzy and fatigued I start to be unable to to feel and control my legs it's like my brain can't tell my legs to move like they feel heavy and like they're made of water and I shuffle and drag the feet. Clark elliot in his book the ghost in my brain, talks about a similar thing only he would get so severe he couldn't move at all, though he was trying to push on in life, but doorways were a real problem with him he couldn't get through them, so what on earth is happening with us compared to a parkinson sufferer. We can be fine but certain triggers send us down, clark did recover with glasses from the mind eye institute which raises more questions, but they kind of talked about the lenses retraining his brain to use parts that weren't damaged.

      My theory is that the stress of obstacles ("Watch out. Don't Trip. Slow Down. Be Cool.") causes interference with the neurons responsible for walking. Parkinson's or Brain Injury has reduced the number/strength of neurons or connections that are responsible for walking - it is weaker process. So, any stress can interfere with this process. The retraining makes sense because he was able to recruit some new neurons/connections into the process - he forced himself to relearn how to walk. You can do the same with threshold strategies - plan to walk up to the threshold and stop. Then step over/through the doorway and stop. Then resume walking. One thing at a time. A new set of instructions can help you deal with the stress of the obstacles around you. But, lots of obstacles can be draining. I don't have a good strategy other than significant retraining through regular intense exercise - mass retraining.

    great find, good prescriptions, easy to follow, fun personable... currently sitting at desk, wondering how many of those (if any) are ok to do while seated. anything more to counteract protruding neck rigidity? that's my primary issue and cause of both upper back and neck pain that climbs into headaches that the meds seem not to touch. i take it you dont visit chiros.

      I am a little annoyed. I think people expect a "silver bullet" as if there is one single exercise to do that is all you need to do. "Do 13 squats and cure PD!" Exercise is unique to everyone. We all have to find what we like to do... and then do it. There is no single thing that works for everyone. Sorry to seem annoyed.

    Is it because it trains muscle strength as well as brain muscle connection?

    • @TheParkinsonsGym
      @TheParkinsonsGym 2 місяці тому

      Yes. It keeps the body healthy and stimulates brain growth. Actual brain growth - new neurons, new connections. Intense exercise stresses the movement processing portions of the brain causing them to respond with new neural pathways. The same way a muscle grows after physical stress - exercise.

    My husband has Parkinson’s. He does this as well. At some point your 5 points do not work. Mentally it is hard for them to understand what is happening and how to “correct” it. A walker can help. Therapy is essential. This is a very cruel disease for sure. My grandmother and an uncle had it as well.

    Zac, you really are great! This is a good one. I'm glad I found you. Parkinson's who? I recently fine-tuned my medicine and my workout strategy, with two very notable improvements - A) it's critically important to keep my carbidopa/levidopa intake AT LEAST an hour away from meals B) this in-turn maximizes the medicines effectivness and makes for exercise to be more fluid, less awkward. For me it works best as follows: take medicine, wait 30 minutes, workout for 30 minutes, rest a bit, then eat. Peace/Kel

Or take another Subject like Romantic Or Comedy, then you can laugh and enjoy in Plentiful... People suffering from "Parkinson's disease", by "Swallowing" Problem is very very difficult and most dangerous thing to them, ... first they limits the Solid foods, b'coz of very difficulty in Swallowing .... then liquids and flouids taking in, b'coz of very difficulty in Swallowing ... then after, even they can't breathe air also, then in next step is,... they'll go to" Coma Conditions" ... Thank you! I do not recommend resistance exercise for the neck alone. Some do. I don't. Too much can go wrong with extremely bad results. However, I do recommend strengthening the shoulders and upper back with overhead presses and horizontal pulls (rows, etc.) as much as your shoulders will allow. The neck is complex, vulnerable and important. The shoulders do a good job supporting and bracing the neck without risking the structures in the neck.
