I had trouble with teaching my filly to stop. I ended up teaching her to back up on the ground with the pull release method every time she would step back and then when we went for a ride she started stopping very well

Again a marvelous video! I am a dressage rider and I use all of your techniques under saddle but I’ve never worked them on the ground. Stupid right? Definitely! Never taught. I just bought a 6 yo QH who is very out of practice. He was ridden hunt seat and the seller sent me oodles of videos of him doing a great canter but he wasn’t kept in training. So I decided to reestablish the canter trying to ride hunt seat. He nearly bucked me off! So I decided to start my basic dressage training which involves exactly what you do but under saddle. But I decided to seek help on UA-cam and found you. You are totally amazing and I’m watching every one of your videos! Even though I’m an advanced dressage rider I am pretty terrible with implementing the yields you show for lungeing. Also my horse won’t canter on the line unless I chase him so I searched for one of your videos on cantering on the lunge line. OMG I couldn’t be doing this more incorrectly! I’m grounding myself until I can execute the ground exercises correctly. If anyone tells you that dressage is totally different from how you train, they are absolutely wrong and don’t understand dressage. I wish you lived near me!!

Like your explanation of NOT chasing your horse into a canter. Rushing, rushing is not the goal, ever. Please drop the concept that the horse is our biological enemy. They are prey animals, hardwired for survival. It is up to us to win their trust that WE are not predators.

I love this guy. The Clinton Andersons and all the mainstream money- hungry horse training people of the world and all the techniques they preach may sell a bunch of videos and crap but it’s just not real life. It resonated so much to me when he said that you need to know your individual animal. It’s not a “one method fits all” thing with horses. We need to ignore the mainstream, popular, horse expectations that too many horse owners expect because I think it sets themselves and their horses up for failure and confusion. I feel like nothing about teaching horses is a cookie cutter method. Get to know your horse. Even if you’ve had it since birth, you might think you know “everything” about it but always be open minded. Thanks for the video sir

So, your 2 year old filly hasn’t done this before but picked it up quickly. How many tries/practices if they don’t catch on? Once they do it, quit for that day/session and revisit it for improvement during next session? Or practice it for improvement. I guess what I am asking is this was a short video but how long a session if you weren’t doing the video? Do sessions vary by age of horse. (My filly is 3 but hasn’t had this method of ground work done with her. ) I’m trying for consistent daily lessons about 20 minutes (even though it’s fun for me and I love seeing the progress and want to go longer)? They will get longer as I build with each of your video lessons? Don’t want to sour her I guess?

Do your horses mature faster? Or do you just give them some basics and turn them away? In the UK it’s only TBs that are ridden at 2, by very light people usually training to race. It’s accepted but really, no one else would dream of sitting on a 2 yo. I really enjoy your videos and have found them really useful but I just wonder about riding them so young?

I am having this exact problem with my young mare. I do not have an arena or round pen. I DO have 40 acres to ride in, but nothing that I can ride in to container her or keep her from running flat out. I cannot get her to walk on a loose rein. I’ve circled her a bit, but now her nose is sore (riding in a side pull halter. She’ll carry a bit, but won’t tolerate me using it) and she’s begun throwing her head when I take hold in an attempt to regulate the speed.

You make this look so easy. I have 2 OTTB's. My mare is like this, my gelding, who was more successful on the track, was more aggressive and lazy. I need this with my mare. Are you changing your leg position when you go from a hindquarter yield to a forequarter yield to the drift? Or are you just turning your toe out and shifting weight?

I find using my core body to push slowdown or stop is very effective and horses understand body language maybe even better than dogs do? Also minimizing my foot movement is equally important, if we're intending to manage our horse's feet shouldn't we manage our own? Try it and be amazed! Thanks for your videos I've enjoyed watching and listening to your coaching.
