Hi Commanders. Following on from my last v5 Elite Dangerous motion simulator vids, I've recently been very busy updating the rig into its current 'Pro' form. This is the rig I was taking to the Elite Community Meet (ECM) in Cambridge at Easter until Covid said no!. Instead, I present it here for you to see. I've added a full scada control and feedback system, a 7" touchscreen, Sequential power-...

Latest project. Making a snazzy 3D LED cube. Got the inspiration from Kev Darrah's project. He wasn't wrong - it was a HUGE undertaking. Took way longer than even I thought it would - and I build flight simulators for gaming!. It took 60 hours just to make the cube. Another 100 hours to build the electronics and program it all up. This vid is 8 mins. First half is a sequence of the build stage ...

I've been busy this month upgrading the v4 3DOF motion chair to higher build standard. I'm taking this chair to the Elite Community Meet nr. Reading in April so wanted to share the latest mods and performance so folks will know what they are in for. I hope some of the Dev's will be there - I would love for them to try it. Spent a week =stripping and rebuilding my GSXR 1216 Turbo. The plug threads were 'very tired'. I've done 27000 miles on it since I first built it to run. so I've now fitted some Time Serts into the cylinder head to renew the compression. This is a montage of rebuild pics to begin with then some vid and sound of the initial engine start up. It sounds wicked and runs prefectly. Time for a ride......

    No offense but id never take the chance on buying something that stock is already beyond high performance. Literally pushed to the edge of mechanics 999cc putting out roughly 160-70hp at the tune of 12,000 rpms and thats stock. Then you tune it and slap a supercharger on it, possibly without even dropping the compression ratio. Drop a rod, melt a piston or 2 before upgrading internals. So yeah i bet it does come with spare heads, engine and lots of other engine parts. Question though, are the spare parts in or outside of the engine?

    Nice to see you still posting your rig videos.. Impressive my friend! I built a 3DOF but want more so 6 is in the works. I use the same stuff as you pretty much except the motors are those crab pot motors from Canada 50:1. I must have missed the ratio yours run at. I did post a bunch of videos here on my channel too. I'm watching all your stuff and subscribed! Cause.. You always need 'more power!" I run off an 850 amp battery, the most I've pulled is 25 amps. I would figure yours probably pulls about 13 amps continuous at idle. Have you ever measured that? Do you have a build page on x-sim? Thanks! DMAX motion sim channel

    You might try some long dampers to smooth out the movement

    • @cmdrblastard5774

      Hi - it doesn't need dampers (like my v3 one did). The motors on this v5 are actually pretty smooth due to their 'over' power - thanks tho

  • @MollyWi

    The funny thing is in space, the craft would have to suspend all g-force or suppress it to 1G (in simulation) so you didn't get flattened like a pancake due to acceleration or breaking from FSD / Supercruise... Go figure what the real G force would be.

    • @cmdrblastard5774
      @cmdrblastard5774 3 роки тому

      very true Stuart but as FTL motion is impossible, I use is real world forces so I have 'imaginary inertial dampers' in place. Being a maths teacher I could work out the real' Inertial Forces' (not G-force btw - in space there won't be any sizable 'g' unless near a massive object) but no reason too really as its a moot point.

    • @cmdrblastard5774
      @cmdrblastard5774 3 роки тому

      Hi Overseer! - it uses motion data direct from the game but I use 'stick-inputs' when ED updates happen until I re-code it (every soddin' time there is a game patch/update). That's why we've been hassling FD for a motion API for last 6 years (which we are happy to write/help them with) all to no avail so far tho - so we'll keep coding ourselves. Now have gode structure for EDH and EDO. See you in-game sometime ....

    My trackball is on the right side so I can still use the mouse while holding the stick. I am a fan of your work, that's impressive! 11:47 when there's no acceleration (~joystick fixed in any position), the rig should slowly and imperceptibly go back to a neutral position. Because the orientation of the body relative to Earth gravity doesn't matter in space. 14:00 is it possible that the pitch motion is inverted? It's just about the acceleration. In a car, an aircraft or a rocket, if I put the throttle to the max, the acceleration throws my body backward (not forward). Or maybe there's a lag between both videos.

    • @cmdrblastard5774
      @cmdrblastard5774 3 роки тому

      Hi Grandma, it does everything you say except the pitch. Goes back to neutral pos when no input (unless in FA off mode - which in itself takes some skill to master). Roll is inverted, but inverted pitch just doesn't feel right assuming you are referring to pitch being up/down and down/up along the lateral plain (which is what pitch is). You may be referring to 'surge' when you talk about acceleration - which I do have inverted so it throws you back when throttling-up and moves you forwards when braking (or throws you forward with some force if you slam into something immovable - like an asteroid or other ship/station lol) -

    • @cmdrblastard5774

      Tried that Andy, but I get more motion with less strain on the rods in the positions they are in now. I used to have to replace the PHS ball-end's a few times a year, now they never wear out. Footpring wouldn't change that much either. Thanks for the interest

    Just got mine a few days ago, it actually makes a pretty decent search and rescue ship... I plan to use this to load up on passengers to take out of damaged stations after a Thargoid attack, and to give fuel and repairs to stranded ships, NPC or Players... If I join the Fuel Rats, this will be my go to ship, just for the reactions from those who I rescue. I believe it will be surprisingly good at all these activities...
