It's not only bmw.. also mercedes does this, in both vans as big trucks.. and there are more. Ofcourse in trucks it's with gears not a chain
Great video.😊 Could you share the link on this “shock absorber tools”?
Hopefully you replaced those o-rings on those oil lines. Great video. The plastics on european cars all had to be made under thier very strict biodegradable regulations. Its unfortunate because many of thier gaskets and engine components are made of plastic, not to mention all the interior components. Since the engine gets so hot and the engine compartment, all the plastic components age twice as fast at least. It really hurts the reliability and reputation of thier vehicles. The poor 7 series is probably suffered from this the most. In most case, they were totaled out due to repair cost.
Nice job my man
After doing service, is there need to doing any update reset on the system or mileage reading?
Good video, I'm curious though, why did you change the FIP sprocket and not the cam too? (And I know the crank one can't be changed, so why bother changing any of them?). I need to change the chain etc on my 2010 330d N57🙁(145k miles)
great video , very informative , well explained ✌️✌️
Don't you have to reset the valve body before you drive
Very well done and informative! Thank you.
Polluting punk - "Deleting a diesel isn’t just ill-advised; it’s a federal crime. Tampering with a vehicle’s emission system is a direct violation of federal law, even if you live in a state or county without annual or biannual emissions testing. If you’re caught driving a deleted diesel truck, you could face fines of up to $5,000 per non-emissions part! If you own a business selling/installing emissions defeat devices, those fines can increase to seven figures!" You've been reported to the authorities.
I have a bmw w/4.8 . Big oil leak all around the oil filter housing anyone think this may be my problem, I can’t see where the oil is coming from?
10/10 👍👍 But boy oh boy my N47 making noises. 😭
only 2 problems I see, you didn't torque the oil pan, and used the incorrect silicone. 2017 upper oil pan torque has a base torque and a specific degree of rotation.
Hi hey I have a 325i 2012,, which shock do you recommend? I have to go first with the FRONTS? let me know trying to get a brand in MExico . 325i 2012 2.5 6 Cyl M Sport
Great video. How is it to reprogram around the removed sensors?
That delete pipe looks so much cleaner and better and should have come from the factory that way!!! The engine sounds much better!!! 👍👍👍
Well done! Working on the bottom of any vehicle is difficult especially when you are wrestling a large section of piping that probably weighs over 80 lbs!!! 👍👍👍
I gotta do this on my 04 645 this summer. Any suggestions as to the best parts kit to make this job the easiest? I'm a diy mechanic and never did an internal engine job like this before, but i am capable. I can't afford to hire it out. It's not worth it.
I thought you tighten the cam sprocket bolts once you time using the fly wheel locking pin. That handle you use is in a different place to the flywheel one ?
My son and I just tackled this project over the weekend on hid X5. This video gave me anxiety leading into the project. LOL!! A couple of things we did different. Remove passenger wheel and fender liner, it will give you access to some of the engine mount bolts. We only removed the engine mount, we did not mess with the subframe. We also removed the heat shielding which made a lot more room. We also found loosening up the DEF (precat) so you could move it around and out of your way helped a lot. The motor mount bolts were fairly easy to remove and install once we positioned the precat out of the way. I used a prybar to lift the motor mount bracket to the engine off the actual mount point. I tallied up the time suck, we spent 18 hours doing this. If we had to do it again, now knowing all the tricks we could cut a few hours off that time. Tools that were a godsend: We purchased come hose pinch off pliers to use on the coolant hoses. This minimized coolant loss. We also purchased a exhaust cut off tool which looks like pliers with a chain on them. I was amazed it worked so well, we made 2 cuts one to shorten the stock exhaust before we put it back in. A second to cut to size. Of course, have long extensions on hand, and some universal swivel attachments. Our only issue at this point is the Tunezilla module will not flash the UCE. We put the car on trickle charge overnight and hope that is the issue. We are also downloading the tune again hoping maybe it was corrupted.
how much is a job like this cost?
You forgot the timing for the fuel pump 45 degrees after tdc😮😮😮😮😮
Changing oil at the back is much easier then changing it front, my own opinion. :)
I have oil all over my front left control arm…
Why the chew? Shits nasty to look at
I took my F10 3.0 to the local shop where they do non-invasive decarbonization for diesels. They use a special machine for it, a hose goes into the air intake past the filter and uses some kind of aerosol detergent that's not harmful to the cylinder lining. The car runs on idle for about an hour like that, with intermitent increases in revs. After the procedure is done it's supposed to have 'washed off' any carbon build up which then goes down the exhaust manifold and into the exhaust as an almost black liquid. Not sure how effective it would be in this example because there's just too much of it but I'm hoping with regular decarbonizations I can prevent this scenario from ever happening.
Thanks Woody!
Thanks Woody, a very informative video. Much appreciated!👌👍
That's a lot of work! We, who are about to drive, salute you! 😂 (extra points for getting the reference) In all seriousness though, I got this engine in my 2015 F10 530d (that I love to death) and its chains are in excellent condition at 210k kilometers or so (immaculate service history by 2 German owners), but I'm still very curious as to how the whole procedure goes because I can't just sit and watch at the repair shop that I service my beemer at. Thanks a lot for sharing this! ❤
Ah you sure it's ok? I thought my 2010 330d N57's (145k miles) chain was ok (full service history, factory change intervals) until I happened to be listening for a running problem after a long journey. So I only heard my chain making a modest rhythmic scraping noise with the drivers door open and revving the engine to ~2k RPM, and like I said, with a hot engine.
@@Assimilator1 Yep, I'm sure. The slack on my chains was recently checked with a specialized tool by BMW. They have less than 1mm slack with 12mm being maximum allowed before chains having to be replaced. BTW factory interval was too long in 2010, that's why BMW revised it for 2013 onwards (was 15k miles, then 10k miles which is still too much in mine and many others' opinion). I change oil at around 10k kms (6.5k miles). Engine oil is life blood of an engine, it needs to be as fresh as can be. I know that engine oils have come a long way and that additive packages in them are better but the base oils are still more or less the same, and they are subjected to enormous stress of modern high compression, high power output diesel engines. Personally, I'd rather spend a bit more money for maintenance each year than a lot more for chain replacement or even engine rebuild/replacement if things happen to go catastrophically bad all of a sudden.
I have done so much work to my x5 and it's is still running like it should be I have replaced fuel pump, alternator, crank shift sensor, spark plugs and missing fuses , I have also replaced the battery the 2010 BMW X5 xDrive48i N62 4.8L V8 engine is still not starting when I get it to start the pulley on what looks like the water pump looks like it's skipping and then on top of that it's running in limp mode so what do I do I'm unable to take my vehicle back to the dealership that I purchased it from because they are no longer there and and at the moment I cannot afford to send it to the BMW dealership so that way they can charge me an arm and a leg do you have any suggestions please get back to me as soon as possible thank you
What a Pain in the A$$, glad mine is do e inder warranty.
NIce instructions. Clear and without fluff
Good job,
Thanks for the video, where did you get side engine mount bracket?
What a pos engine. Endless money pits
Wow. That is attention to detail and thanks for explaining it all. This engine makes my N53 seem desirable!!
What was the reason you did this
Excellent job man very nice my upper pan need to be done also
how many hours would this take roughly start to finish with the pipe?
How much would something like this cost
I drove from the Oregon Coast to N. Idaho and back down to S. Idaho at 2500 RMP most of the way with limited acceleration and the stupid message saying, "Drive to clean...". I'm so pissed off at this emissions crap that I'm ready to remove it forever. This looks like a good starting point. Is there more information about resetting the computer and getting the new straight pipe? Do I need to get the pipe custom-made? I'm sure the computer will not be happy when I disconnect all the sensors. How do I deal with that? My truck is the 2014 F350 Super 6.7 Turbo Deisel.
How long did it last with those aftermarket parts? I heard people replace those parts after 6 months of use when they are aftermarket.
Hey brother do you still working on BMW diesel, I would like your help
Hi how you split transmission from engine
When you mentioned $750-$1200 at an independent shop was that including parts and fluid or was that the labor cost alone? Great channel by the way. Just subscribed. Thanks for the info.
After watching a couple of these I have to wonder why you can't just get a block off plate for the exhaust tubes and leave the cooler on the engine? This would save a lot of work and make it look stock unless you really know what to look for. I may be missing something but it would be a lot more simple.
I think we should say pin wear not chain stretche oil changes are the way to avoid this problem nice job thanks for the video its not a bad job when gearbox is removed but is a shame they put the chain in the back of engine they are great engines apart from this problem
I have a question After doing the removal and doing the installation do I need to do any type of Reprogamming?
Good work!!!
Thank you very much for such an important information and detailed to detailed I patiently watch the video only once and I fully understand clearly
