we put our 427 sbc back together for one last outing at lapeer dragway for a end of season race, we installed relays on the electric fan and switched the fan blades around to make it a pusher fan, and we did the pressure test on the cooling system to make sure everything was ok, changed the spark plugs and gapped them to .030 went and got a fresh nitrous bottle filled from american gassers in s...

we take our sbc nitrous blazer to ubly dragway for the first time for testing, it's a 87 gmc jimmy with a nitrous sbc in it, i turned out to be a great first time testing but i definitely need more seat time to get it off the line, it pulled a better 60ft on the n/a pass at a mid 1.4 sec, on the nitrous it was a pathetic 1.7 when the truck has been 1.3 60ft with my brother in law driving it, so...

May i ask what you used for the fuel log, beings it is longer than a normal holley? Thanks for any help.
i bought the blk one that holley sells for the ultra carbs, thanks for asking.. glad to help in anyway possible...
What did you use for the fuel log?
ultra xp log from holley, they sell them to fit the ultra xp carbs since the fuel bowls are larger than other holley carbs
Hey how is the 1977 Mustang ii doing? Will you ever make any more videos on it?
it's been sold , but turned out to be a nice little car, but tony is into buying and selling that's his hustle lol
Great info for anyone with a 2014-18 GM V8. I bought a 2017 Yukon with 39000 miles on it back in April of 2020. Great vehicle rides nice and is very quiet going down the road. One of the first things I did was install a catch can. The second thing I did myself was drain and replace all the drive line fluids and I also had the radiator flushed and fluid replaced. I also did a lot of research on things that go wrong on these GM V8 vehicles. When I went to my local and very trusted transmission shop, I ask the owner what the best preventive things to do for this type of transmission? He suggested to replace the stock torque converter with a billet converter and a few other modifications to how this 6-speed transmission works. He also suggested to have the active fuel management removed by a guy who comes to his shop to do that along with the transmission upgrades. The cost for the torque converter swap, fluid and filter replacement and computer upgrades was 1700.00. The Yukon drives even better now, and I also did the transmission thermostat delete kit myself. Got the kit for just under 40 bucks. Pretty simple to do, just make sure you do this job when the exhaust pipes are cool. Transmission runs much cooler after the delete kit was installed. I am 70 now and hope this vehicle will last the rest of my driving days. It is my second vehicle, and I never drive it in the winter. It now has 43000 miles, and I am looking forward to spring so I can get it back on the road. Living in southeastern MI it is always best, if possible, to have a sacrificial vehicle to weather all the road salt that is used during the winter season. So far this winter it snows just enough nearly every week for the road commission to use road salt on the roads on a regular basis. I have a yearly prepaid pass for the drive though car wash that has an under-body wash to try my best to prolong the corrosive effects of all the road salt used during the winter. So far this has been a bad year for that. Would be nice to live in part of the county where winter is just a cooler time of the year without all the corrosive effects of road salt. I used to enjoy winter when I was younger, not so much anymore. I do however still walk my 6-year-old Beagle Hound Mix, Cloey every day, weather permitting at the local county park. She helps keep me moving and staying limber. Think spring everyone.
that's awesome thanks for sharing that information with us i'm sure we all appreciate it and i bet its last for years and many many miles to come,,, thank you my friend
If you get HPtuners you can look up UA-cam videos. Simply shut off the DoD and at the same time tune out the torque converter slip. Make it lock fully when in gear like all trans used to do. If you don’t tune out the slip your tranny will burn itself up no matter what you do. Also, the stock TC’s were junk and they flexed. When your transmission does burn up(which it will) get the rebuilt Torque Converter that has a billet cover. My trans burned out at 150k miles. I always did fluid changes and black crap was always present in pan. A sure sign that your TC clutches are burning. Since I rebuilt with new TC, HPtune, thermal bypass and quality rebuild fluid has been clean as new. Change fluid and filter every 30k. I got 100k on rebuilt tranny and so far so good. I’m hoping I solved the issues but we will see. Fluid is now always perfect. I also had to replace my TCM at 200k total truck miles. $600 - $1800 job depending if you do it yourself. So I put probably 4k in tranny work. Stinks but my buddy has a newer ford f150 with 10 speed trans and 110k miles and he fixed it once for 2k and now it went complete fail and the trans shop said it would be cheaper to buy a new trans from Ford then for them to rebuild. He’s getting ready to put $12k to install a new transmission and some other work on that garbage truck.
Exalant video all 3 are great mods
I appreciate you watching and thanks for the feedback! 👍
Nice video. I have had the dod killer OBD2 mod since the day I bought my truck. Ordered a Diablo, k&n catch can and the thermal bypass tonight. Have some 5100 shocks ready to go and Firestone airbags for towing plugs and wires. Should have a new truck by Friday. 😏
that's awesome my friend, keep us posted on the progress of your journey on the truck,,
You’ve done everything I’ve done and I have no problems
that's awesome my friend...
Have you replaced you drive line yet 130 it's only rated for 95 mph from the factory
no i am going to be doing a video on the down side of these trucks and that is a issue...i will be going over
Delete your a.f.m. or just keep it in 5th gear
the pulsar does the delete and i wouldn't recommend keeping it in 5th gear all the time, maybe in town be definitely not on the highway thanks for the suggestion though i appreciate it
Sounds like Bad Engineering has been doing a Slow Death of these Vehicles...
In canada, picking up a 2018 sierra 1500 with the 5.3 from gm dealer. Has 100,000km on it, wont really be towing or really heavy loads, would you still recommend getting the bypass valve? and maybe range afm/dfm disabler for now and possibly upgrade to pulsar later Great videos! Thanks
yes i would recommend both, they have done wonderful work on our truck, keeping the heat out of the transmission is key to prolonging the life of the transmission, and also the range will keep it from activating the dod and keep it in v8 mode all the time, so absolutely.... 👍 thanks for watching
Yes
I’m so glad that I came across this video. I’ve been hesitant to buy this 2017 Sierra Denali because of some of these common issues, but now I feel more comfortable about making the purchase along with these mods. Thanks a whole lot for your reviews….
I’m glad I could help, it’s a great truck, you will love it 👍
**PSA**THE RANGE IS FALSE HOPE. HAD ONE ON MY 2017 SIERRA, IT STILL GOT A COLLAPSED LIFTER AT 70,000. MINE IS DELETED NOW SO I DONT NEED IT. NO AFM PARTS IN MY TRUCK AND NO SOFTWARE CABABLE OF TRYING TO ACTIVATE IT.
Thanks for sharing your experience, everyone's engine is different so it's good to hear from people who have tried it.
Hey, wondering how your truck has held up for you. I’m 16, found a good deal on a 2014 v6 sierra single cab. Should I bite the bullet and buy it?
i did a year reweigh video on it, it's great no problems so far but you have to take cere of them, mine pulls all summer long, campers and race trailers temps on 80 degree heat only get to 148 on trans , i did switch to a pulsar lt tunners and love it
Torque converter, billet a must if you’re towing.
i agree, i don't know if it's already been done but tows great temps stay low at 140 degrees on 80 degree day, see my update video thank you
Hypertech 2.0 you can do that and way more. And you don't have to leave it in the OB2 PORT!
i switched to the pulsar lt and like it way more, cost more money but well worth it
That's not a 2016. 2016 has the horizontal fog lights
it's titled as as a 16, it's a late production month, nov... i asked dealer same thing
I have a 2016 Silverado, no problems yet but will be looking into doing these mods. Great video!
thanks for sharing my friend 👍
I dump my catch can oil in my old oil containers to go to Advance Auto Oil Recycling. I thought about using it on my hedge trimmer bar, but with water and other crud in there, no way, especially poured into mower fuel, no way.
i'll dump mine into my old mower, it's got two hood filters on it and it will help lune the cylinder up also.. haven't had a problem, but thanks for sharing we appreciate it 👍
Some AFMs stay hot when the switch is off - poor pin selection, be sure yours does not. My catch can collects about a half oz of oil every 500 miles. Have not done the TBV yet, but will. 2015 GMC 1500 here, great truck, excellent boat puller.
mine goes from oil change to oil change no problem, and people i talked to there's does too makes me wonder if there is a defect in your can ? idk i i appreciate the info my friend 👍
@@MMCGRACING Can defect? 🤣
i didn't understand what you were talking about the catch can, mine works as should..
My 2018 680l runs between 178-185. Not towing. Just highway and city driving. Dallas Ft Worth metro area. Running Amsoil trans fluid. So looking forward to what this mod can do for me.
i bet it brings temperatures way down my friend 🤘👍
Mine is locked out and my Cleveland is miserable to start at 32* initial
i use the digital 6 plus msd box also with 20 degrees of automatic start retArd .. no issues on a 12:1 sbc starting
Bom u just destroyed the motor easy bom
U better slow down there big boy. Before u blow a valve off your self. It’s not worth a heart attack. Have a bugger n fries tony does not know shit. U would make it anywhere. U better sit down and relax n DONT go anywhere.! What u are talking about is a wrap. Not sure if u are talking lawn more or something else

I have a ford 4 sale. 1993 OBS 4x4 Standard. Warn hubs. Short box. New fenders new cab. Not driving in winter. 4.9 best motor in the world. 161.000km original stereo. And 5 speed
Hey can you ask your buddy if he would sell the sb2 motor and spare parts? I have cash money
that engine was sold sorry my friend.. 👍
@ ok thanks
i bought a device similar to the range BUT i have watched videos where ppl have used that device from day 1 and lifters still fail and other videos that say those devices do not help that being said, im no expert, just repeating what i have seen/heard from other videos
i don't doubt it, every engine is different, some have great luck with it like myself, and i have also seen people having issues, i bought a v8 and it definitely works on keeping it in that mode, thanks for the feedback 👍
Yes. Many of these recommended mods apply to 2018+ years as well. re: AFM/DOD deactivation module (to save lifter and Cam), Transmission Cooling bypass kit, Remove (disable) Engine auto start/stop, remove (disable) down hill braking, upgraded convector (when it needs replacing). Low cost DIY upgrades to make these GM vehicles last longer...
you are correct, i was mostly referring to the 6l80 trans , but yes sir you are correct thanks my friend 👍
The only problem with this DOD deactivate chip is that it will not allow the check engine light to come on when you get fault codes.
mine did when stabilizer track sensors went bad, but i'm no expert on these by any means so i appreciate the advice 👍
@MMCGRACING I'm in California and we have to smog the car every 2 years. With this chip monitors would not set in ready mode. I finally did a full delete with camshaft swap and purchased a tuner to deactivate the DOD in the ECU. So far it runs well.
Hey Michigan how would I go by making sure both cam and crank shafts are in time perfectly on thos 4 cylinders just as in ur video, would be a great help
i would need more information about the situation and engine to give a accurate answer my friend
Drop the link to buy the part’s
sorry my friend i just went through amazon and typed in year of my truck and everything comes up, still learning the basics of dropping links sorry
Greetings from soggy Oregon! Just found your channel via Glenn's Hot Rod Garage's channel. Checking it out over the holidays. I'm going to be building a 400+ inch SBC for my old Buick so maybe I can learn something from your 427 build.
hey thanks for watching i appreciate it, we are going to be doing a lot in the 25 seasons so glad you're here and hopefully we can show some tips, i actually have some old videos of us putting together some 450 hp sbc for my boys monte , and also building tony's sbc go back in our archives and you can watch the videos there information friendly lol
I did the transmission thermostat a few years ago it seems to work great for the summer time but it sure does not like winter. My transmission feels great at about 130° but it is hard to get it there in the winter time. I went from the best truck ever made a 98 Chevy Silverado to a 2014 and these trucks are nothing more than glorified grocery getter
lol i agree my friend to get the temp up in mine i let it idle for a few minutes it brings the heat up this is after the two starts from the remote start, i let it warm up about 30min on the cold days, but mine seems ok even around 100 degrees,
One more you need to get is a throttle body spacer you also need a throttle controller that plugs into the gas peddle to help with the lag in the peddle
i put a pulsar lt tuner in since this video and it's got 5 different hp settings and a bunch of different features, lot more money than the range but well worth its functionality
I had a Range AFM for my 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 and it would do weird things from time to time like flash power steering and brake codes, and also on several occassions I would put key in and nothing, couldn't start my vehicle turnd the key and nothing no power, etc. I had to unplug and re-plug in to start my truck. I since have stopped using it several years ago and sold it. Wondering if anyone else experience some weird issues like this with the Range AFM disabler?
i used them for many of my chevy trucks and never had issues, but i did switch to the pulsar lt tuners and like it 100 percent better, but way more money for more options wondering if you just got a bad one or even heard of computers on these era trucks goin crazy and failing, i haven't had any problems with mine personally but can't speak for others, hope you have better luck my friend 👍
i have had power steering issues and my voltage gauge would drop and then i would get warning lights on thought it was my alternator so changed it and did same thing at times, so i replaced it again with the high amp alternator 180 amp vs 160 since everything is power, and put the bigger battery in and haven't had any issues since, so after three alternator and battery upgrades problem solved
@@MMCGRACING Good to know don't forget to check all the ground cables those can cause all sorts of apparent electrical issues if not grounded properly or if corroded out.
@@MMCGRACING Nice, I thought about trying a tuner to permanently disable since it always drives smoother in V8 mode. I tried the M5 trick which keeps it in V8 all the time and drove it like that for a while but it's a pain to keep doing that and not having 6th. ~112K miles all driven with the AFM on crossing my fingers.
Where did you get the parts
amazon carries them 👍
100% HP tuners MPVI3
this is a cheap way to disable for people who don't have the ability to use hp tunners, but agree that is a great way to do things tru the computer 👍
What is the deal with head lights pointing up in the trees
idk 🤷♂️
Retrdd
What brand of oil due to use for your truck?
i use royal purple 5w30
GREAT VIDEO!!
thanks my friend 👍
Love your truck. I have the very same onyx black slt crew z71 std box truck in my driveway. Mine has the cocoa/dune interior. My trans went out at 130k. Normal time of failure for the 6l80. I'm at 140k now and rolling strong. All stock except for the drilled and slotted brakes and 22" Denali wheels wheels from a 2023 Sierra. Trans shop told me the lock up converter ate itself and sent debris throughout.
they say that what happens converter failure is due to heat and takes out the rest of the transmission, glad you got it fixed my friend, with the issues fixed they are great trucks 👍
Where do you get your floor mats
there weather tec floor mats and live them they were in the truck when we got it,
Another question, how much oil are you finding in the catch can on each oil change?
about half a can every oil change or maybe a little less, nothing to worry about in between changes..👍
I am having the hardest time finding a link for the trans kit. I have a 2018 Tahoe. I found one from PPE that looks to be similar, I guess I'll go with it. Does Shift Technologies have a website?
amazon sell them also try them that's we're i got mine...
@@MMCGRACING After looking into it a little more, I am just going to go with the GM TSB 70 degree C updated thermostat. Thanks again for the helpful video.
Regular transmission fluid changes helps as well
In canada, That AFM... failed around 170,000mk 105000 miles ish. Decided to delete the whole system and upgrade the cam. Love the new power, but it was not worth it as the shop kept "finding" things wrong. Did the Trans mod, just flipped the pill. Catch can is next. you change your headlights... stock junk lol head light revolutions has great products.
thanks for the info on the lights i'm gonna look into them 👍💪
Nice El Camino !!!!!❤
thanks
