    Interesting stuff. I was not aware there were catalogs for model kits back then. The only glitch in it to me was I cannot tell what scale the models were, I freeze framed and didn't see scale anywhere. (some had length of model in inches, but in my head I can't calculate scale from that)

    • @CelebratingVintageModelKits
      @CelebratingVintageModelKits 9 годин тому

      @@rayrussell6258 very observant of you! That is because Revell utilized something now known as “box scale”. The kits were designed to fit a standard size box that Revell used. A single engine fighter and an eight engines bomber fit the same box. Scale was adjusted accordingly. The standard aircraft scales used today didn’t get used by revell much at this time. 1/40, 1/56, 1/93, 1/130, 1/196. Any scale was possible from Revell so long as it fit the box. Other makers at the time did this as well, just not as much as Revell did. Later as hobbyist became more discerning about scale, Revell started listing the scale. This causes sales of off scale kits to drop and forced Revell to retool the kit to a standard scale. Didn’t happen overnight though. Not unusual to a see a 1950s kit still being reboxed by Revell into the 2000s!

    I have either a 1970 or 1972 Revell catalog, and you'll see where I circled some kits. I started building in the mid 1960's and don't ever recall seeing Revell cement or paints. Glue was strictly Testors and paints available were Testors and Pactra.

    • @CelebratingVintageModelKits
      @CelebratingVintageModelKits 3 дні тому

      Seems like all the early kit makers had their own line of paints and cement. I wonder if they were all rebranded Testors since the bottles and tubes all looked the same.

    I remember those IMC kits quite vividly. I (tried) building their "Avenger GT" kit and remember the fit was very bad and didn't do a good job on the kit (I think I was 9 or 10 at the time). One IMC kit I would like to find is their "67 Chevy Impala - I also remember building this kit and it fit together much better than their other kits.

    BTW,if you have clear canopies with any issues such as scuffing,distortion,etc an easy way to fix them is to detach from the sprue and trim as needed of any flash or other molding marks,clean with isopropyl alcohol and then with a pair of forceps/tweezers give them a dip in a container of Future acrylic floor polish and allow to dry. guaranteed your parts will come out clear as crystal. sometimes a second dipping may be needed in extreme cases.

    in 1976-77 when FROG "ceased trading" and went into receivership,all of their molds were sold to the Russians except for any subjects related to Nazi Germany {Revell grabbed those up} and were marketed in the west by NOVO in boxes as well as bagged kits with Russian instructions sheets and usually minus decals. some of the Russian moldings were in some pretty wacky colors depending perhaps on what supplies of plastics were available.....i,ve got a bagged issue in my deep stash of the Typhoon molded in a soft rose PINK.....! 😜

  • @Grimhilde7
    @Grimhilde7 5 днів тому

    good kit for it,s time and still holds up well to this day. a simple and straightforward build. just needs more historically accurate decals but that,s what aftermarket sheets are for. on most British RAF fighters,the code letters and aft fuselage bands and many spinners were painted in Sky and some codes were light grey. red codes were more for the heavy night bombers and the red was usually the very subdued Terra Cotta brick red. even with later issues you could buy 2 or 3 Monograms for the price of a single Hasegawa.

    What's not to like here? Superb planes (love the biplanes), hand painted markings, damages...and music! Big like!

    I remember seeing these model kits at the Seattle downtown Woolworth department store back around 1972-1973. I never bought any of them with my allowance since I was into armor and ships as a kid. Good memories!!

    I believe those wheel wells are incorrect for an H model. If i recall correctly, they are supposed to be your typical wells with doors

    I remember the clunky toylike Matchbox kit. A perfect target for an airgun but not much else. Did I mention that I hate most (but not all) Matchbox kits? :-)

      What they lack in crisp detail they make up for in some unusual subjects no one else did. Some are still the only option out there. Thanks for watching!

      @@CelebratingVintageModelKits The Matchbox kits did have a better fit and less flash than the Airfix ones, and :-)

    I've been building model aircraft kits for60 years and I've never seen this brand or the damaged kit, what a brilliant idea. It looks pretty reasonable for a kit that's so old. The clear prop disk is a great idea. They are available on eBay at a reasonable price but the postage to Australia is a deal breaker.

      Lindberg has recently released the others in the battle damaged line. An A-4, F-4, F-100 and MiG-21. You might be able to find them at your local shop still.
