      It’s hard to say. The FX30 is a great B cam. The biggest issue that I have found (which can be a benefit) is the lenses are different on each system. So it would not be a direct backup if something were to go wrong

    4:36... and you are absolutely on point. Reminding everyone that about 80% of big production films we see are produced with Super35 sensor cameras is crucial, because it's more than time to understand they are tools. And same as for all of them : if you know how to use them properly, the job shall be more than clean. Even more than that if the operator has some sort of talent ! I would not trade my FX30 for another camera, it gets me more than I need and my next lens (in a few days, hopefully) will expand this to a degree. To achieve the same results with a 24x36 sensor, it would more than triple the cost and double the mass. I gave a try at photographing with it and the results were brilliant. A phone call from a costumer recently confirmed it. This camera belongs to the very few pieces of gear we can objectively say have changed the way we create. Did anyone out there thought, 20 years back, it could be possible to have such an amazing result, from such a small size thing and at such a reasonable price ? I did not, even in my darest dreams !

    ngl , with z6iii out , the fast readout and no crop 4k60 of the 12mp triplets is kinda redundant , with 24mp 4k60 ( up to 6k30 ) internal raw with ibis and usable af - and its cheaper too for some salt on the wound thats assuming you even shoot in low light ,the fx30 offers sharper 4k footage aswell with large reduction in costs note : dual iso for the z6iii at 6400 iso

    I have the a7IV and I'm just getting into editing and color grading. Are there any free LUT's that are worth it or should i just get a pack... also is there a difference between color grading and using a LUT?

    • @darpinomedia9619
      @darpinomedia9619 2 місяці тому

      You can get the free lut from Sony on their website. Really it’s hard to explain the difference, but think if it as the lut is doing the work you. There are luts that bring your log footage or flat footage to a standard 709 look (which is what this video is about). Also there are creative luts which can give you a “color grade”. All of this can be done manually within your editing software, but the luts make it quicker and easier if you aren’t an experienced colorist

    I’m selling my FX30 because it is a one trick pony. Can’t set a custom white balance in memory recall. No open gate recording even at 30p. No 6k. These are both software limitations and no 6k is deliberately crippled so it doesn’t outshine the FX3. Also, the APSC lens lineup is okay but the good stuff is all full frame. Finally, it is needlessly difficult to take photos with. It’s hopeless. TheS5ii beats this in every single department.

    • @darpinomedia9619
      @darpinomedia9619 2 місяці тому

      Can’t argue with those points. The only thing I’d say the fx30 is is better than the S5ii is Autofocus, and buying into the Sony cinema lineup. There is a clear line of upgrading or working with other cameras in the lineup. But yea, S5ii is dope

    I’m that dual shooter you speak of, using the very same two cameras that you film with. Wedding has been my bread and butter for the past 4 months, and here are my two cents (that no one asked): 1. Physical button layout was something that I’m still trying to get used to. I have custom buttons all set up to my liking (e.g., the big wheel for ISO, AF-ON on for MF/AF switch, etc) so I try to replicate it on the FX30 (that I only get to use at gigs). 2. Your thoughts on low-light capabilities is spot-on. I’ve only noticed it in the last few weeks, but yes, the a7IV beats the FX30 easily. 3. Crop factor. On the a7IV, I have 24-70mmGMII, while the FX30 got an 85mm f1.8, which gives me the full-frame equivalent of f 127mm or so. This allows me to capture faces across the isle of the chapel we film at and I love it. I almost never swap lenses. 4. More on the button layout…I am not a huge fan of the rec button on the FX30, as I feel I have to stretch out my thumb to reach it. On the a7IV, it’s easily done with my index finger. 5. I also own an FS5 that I had shot in place of the FX30 before, and I noticed that the image quality is (1080p) better on the FS5… Because I get to shoot at the same exact chapel week after week, I was able to do simple A/B comparison (both cameras use an APS-C-sized sensor) and realized that the footage shot on the FX30 appears overly sharp, almost as if you applied sharpening effect. On the FS5, it is more natural - filmic even. This is especially noticeable on garments with fine details. All in all, I don’t have much to complain about either. Love shooting with them.

    So you just pretty much download the app 😂

      Pretty much 🤣. Looking back at this I wish I had gone more in depth on things but I was just getting started on UA-cam. But the app does do a lot of the work. Just having control of your exposure makes a world of difference for footage

      @@darpinomedia9619 😂 ok it’s all good I was looking for ways to turn my regular videos to cinematic. I’ve been shooting music videos with my iPhone XR and it’s not bad just want to have it looking more stable and up to part.

    Noticed at 1:54 you have your setting at 4K 24p 100. Do you shoot in 4K or HD?

      On the A7III shot 4K for 24fps and 1080 when shooting 60fps

    Thank you for this. I noticed you do very little walking, no ninja walk etc. In fact the only time you did your intent was to speed ramp. I use the same gimbal, though I'm sure they're all similar, but this is where I have a lot of trouble with smooth footage no matter frame rate or how long I practice. In larger properties are you needing to walk more?

      Hey yes, I’m this vid I don’t do a bunch of walking. I try limit walking if I don’t have to. But yes for larger homes, I definitely do more walking. It does take lots of practice and repetition.

    Compared to the a7s3 it’s doesn’t perform as good in low light. But with lenses with fast aperture like the vitrox 23mm f1.4. It gives it a run for its money.

      Absolutely agree. Plus the fact that you can get more light from the fast lenses and still have a deeper depth of field is a benefit.
