I reread the essay and went in search of a UA-cam vid to get some more insight. I enjoyed your take, though I couldn't help noticing that the discussion was around the Author Roland Barthes, who while in fact dead, seems to hold.a privileged position in the interpretation of the essay. Perhaps modern (or post-modern) literary criticism still can't do without the unifying name of its Author. There are a number of almost separate ideas that enter this piece: that interpretation of a text resides in the reader's mind, not the intentions of the original scribe. The reader is the writer of their text. But the idea that I'm most attracted to in the essay is the notion that a text is "a tissue of quotations drawn from innumerable centers of culture," such as other texts. Of course a writer's phrases, diction, cultural references are roiling around in the brain, and somehow come out onto the page in various smatterings and associations. This lifts the burden of originality, of camouflaging one's influences. Indeed, Barthes admits that Mallarmé came before him in terms of perceiving language as the animating force of a text.

Hi mate. Great vid. Really honest and Insightful. Could you tell me? I'm an artist and I do oil paintings. I work with clay also. So I'm interested in painting, sketching and sculpting. I'm worried that a lot of the job is going to be stuff I am not interested in. Such as sowing and fabrics work ect. Can you tell me? Does the job include a lot of fabrics and sowing ect? Can you specify which area you wish to cover. I am awaite I can find this online but I'd like to know from your perspective as believe it will be honest. Thanks.

Hi, no you won’t be forced to teach textiles. Honestly it’s mostly drawing and sketchbook work. With a bit of watercolour, acrylic, collage, charcoal and maybe clay involved. But there is a lot of freedom to make your own syllabus.

It's crazy that I come across Freire this late in my education as a teacher. We did have critical pedagogy/didactic, but being German this was very centred around people like Adorno and the Frankfurt sociology. Freire might have come up as a sidenote, but it seems so obvious that a classroom is traditionally constructed with a large power gradient. I personally find constructivistic didactics to fit well with critical pedagogy, because it from a base level allows the students to explore their own reality and become proficient in questioning it. Thx for the video
